Speaking to TOI on Friday, Jagadeesan said: 'I got a call from the selector, and he said: 'You might get another call in one hour's time. So just be ready.' And after that, I just had a lot of jitters waiting for the call. It was a very happy moment.
'I've always dreamt of being a part of the Indian Test team. I think wearing the whites has got something special to it.
And that's always been something in my head…something I really wanted to be part of. And for it to just happen, it was a very joyful moment.'

While the news may have come as a surprise to many, Jagadeesan said this call-up didn't exactly feel 'out of the blue' to him.
'Maybe it's out of the blue for a lot of people, but I've been part of the targeted players' list for the past two to three years. I was with all the other targeted players at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) for the entire year and over the last two and a half years.

All of us wicketkeepers were there. At some point, I knew that I was probably hovering near the door. I knew I just had to put my head down, stay in the present, and work hard,' Jagadeesan said.
Jagadeesan is in awe of Pant, who battled a fractured foot to score a crucial half-century in Manchester on Thursday before handing over the gloves to Dhruv Jurel.

'No doubt he's (Pant) a superstar. The kind of cricketer he is, it's really special.
And the way he came back from the accident, it was really brave. It's something that a lot of people probably would not have done. Last year, we were in the same Duleep Trophy side (India B), so that's when we actually got to play together for the first time,' Jagadeesan said.
Jagadeesan, who has been mentored by former India player
Robin Uthappa
, doesn't yet know what his role will be in England. But he believes the coaching that he has got from Uthappa and the UK tour with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) last year has prepared him for English conditions.
'I'm grateful to Robin for his help. Also the fact that TNCA took me to the UK for a 27-day tour, which was a major boost. It was a very good learning experience because that was the first time I went outside Asia. Adapting to weather conditions was a big learning curve,' he said.

Achraf Hakimi rape trial latest: Will PSG soccer star, Morocco footballer go to jail?

French prosecutors on Friday called for Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi to face trial for the alleged rape of a woman in 2023 which the Moroccan international denies. The Nanterre prosecutor's office told AFP that they had requested that the investigating judge refer the rape charge to a criminal court. "It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order," the prosecutor's office told AFP in a statement. Hakimi, 26, played a major role in PSG 's run to their first Champions League title, the full-back scoring the opener in the 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final in May. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Greece: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House Search Now Hakimi, who helped Morocco to their historic progress to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, was charged in March, 2023 with raping a 24-year-old woman. Hakimi allegedly paid for his accuser to travel to his home on February 25, 2023, in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away on holiday. Although the woman refused to make a formal accusation, prosecutors decided to press charges against the player. She told police at the time that she had met Hakimi in January 2023 on Instagram. According to Colin, her client had "been the target of an attempted extortion". "Nothing in this case suggests an attempted extortion," Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer representing the woman, said. "My client welcomes this news with immense relief," she told AFP. "We will not tolerate any smear or destabilisation campaign, as is unfortunately still too often the case for women who have the courage to report the rape of which they are victims," she added. 'Did not expect such big reaction from him': Prasidh on how he unsettled a usually composed Joe Root at The Oval

Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna and English batter Joe Root were involved in a heated back-and-forth on Day 2 of the fifth and final Test. Krishna revealed that it was a plan to get a reaction from Root. read more Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root were involved in a heated back-and-forth on Day 2 of the Oval Test. AFP Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna enjoyed the back-and-forth he had with Joe Root on Day 2 of the fifth and final Test. Following the end of the the pacer revealed that he took the onus to provoke the ire of England's batting general. Prasidh and Root indulged in a heated confrontation that required interventions from the umpires. The usually calm and composed Root lost his cool when Prasidh hurled something at him following a boundary in the 22nd over. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Prasidh Krishna on heated banter with Joe Root Krishna's words did not sit well with Root, who showcased his animated side to the Indian pacer. After the culmination of the day, Prasidh made it known that it was nothing but just a banter between the two 'good mates' that comes within the confines of the game. 'Well, it was a very small thing. I think it was just a competitive edge among us that was coming out. Both of us are good mates off the field. It was just a little bit of a banter, and both of us enjoyed it,' said Prasidh in the post-day press conference. The Karnataka pacer further stated that bringing out a reaction from Root was not an accident; rather the act was carried out with a purpose. 'That was also the plan. But I didn't really expect a couple of words that I said to get such a big reaction from him. But like I said, I love the guy that he is. He's a legend of the game. 'And for him to come out there, it's great when two people are out there wanting to do their best,' said Praisdh who took a four-wicket haul alongside Mohammed Siraj to script India's impressive comeback after the onslaught of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the first session. Prasidh further said that trading barbs with the opposition batter tends to get the best out of him. 'I try and enjoy bowling if it means that I have a bit of a chatter with the batsman. And it does help me when the batsman also is, I can get under the nerves and get a reaction from him. And I think I was just running in well,' said the lanky fast bowler. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Prasidh on how bowlers readjusted after morning beat-down As India suffered a clobbering at the hands of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the morning session, the bowlers decided to brush aside the beating and worked on improving. 'As a team we knew what happened before lunch and the three fast bowlers, I think we got together in a small corner and decided, what's happened has happened. 'And all of us know what we need to be doing and we just said, every time we are on the field, at the mark, we trust each other enough, go speak to each other, tell them if you're not on the right track, and just make sure you're bowling the right lines and take it from there. 'And as a team as well, we spoke about the same thing. Like, if the next three, two hours, if we can show some body language, I think it's going to make a big difference and it made a big difference,' he said. The 29-year-old stated that when the chips were against them, they concentrated on getting the basics right and reaped the results in the form of wickets. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'I think they are playing a lot of shots and as a bowling unit, it's very hard for us to keep bowling the same areas, knowing they're going to do all kinds of things and try to score runs. But that's the challenge in itself. 'If you can still come there and know what your lengths and lines are and keep bowling the same good balls again and again, I think it's a matter of time. And that's the challenge, to be able to bowl the good lengths in spite of the aggressive intent of the batsman.' India ended the day at 75/2 after 18 overs, taking a lead of 52 runs. Jaiswal and Akash Deep are currently in the middle. A topsy-turvy day for both teams has set the tone for a thrilling Day 3.

Chandigarh's ‘Swayam' self-defence academy shut down, training now limited to schools

1 2 Chandigarh: In a concerning development for women's safety initiatives in the city, Chandigarh Police's renowned 'Swayam' self-defence academy, which empowered thousands of young girls and women over the past seven years, has remained shut since Aug 2024. The closure marks a significant shift in how self-defence training is now being imparted across Chandigarh. Launched in 2017 with the aim of equipping girls with physical and mental tools to defend themselves, 'Swayam' quickly became a symbol of empowerment in the city. Through martial arts, Wushu, and other practical self-defence techniques, the programme reached every corner of the city, from economically weaker sections to schools, colleges, and the IT sector. Between 2017 and 2024, a total of 978 self-defence programmes were conducted, training 1,33,471 girls and women. Alongside this, 739 awareness programmes were held, reaching 92,560 participants. In total, the initiative reached 1,717 groups with a combined 2,26,031 attendees, making it one of the most expansive public safety training efforts in the region. Under the 'Swayam' banner, participants didn't just learn to protect themselves, many went on to excel in sports and competitions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Moose Approaches Girl At Bus Stop In Yaroslavskaya Oblast - Watch What Happens Happy in Shape Undo From 2018 to 2024, girls trained through the program brought home 917 medals, including 319 gold, 298 silver, and 300 bronze, even clinching 3 gold and 1 silver medal at international levels. However, since the academy's closure in Aug 2024, the format of the programme has been scaled down. Now, training is being conducted only in schools by police personnel, raising concerns about accessibility and outreach, especially for those outside the formal education system. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said, "Around 1,500 girls have been trained under this programme so far this year." While the commitment of the police force to continue the training is evident, the absence of a dedicated academy limits the programme's scale and impact. Players have expressed disappointment over the academy's closure, calling for its revival. Many fear that without a centralised hub for structured training, the consistency and quality of the programme could suffer. As Chandigarh continues to promote safety and empowerment for women, the future of 'Swayam' now hangs in the balance, a once-celebrated initiative now functioning only in fragments.
