Pittsburgh Steelers Rookie Quarterback Will Howard Reveals Help from Ben Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a quarterback conundrum. That will be the case until Aaron Rodgers signs with the team or they move on and roll with Will Howard to see if he can play. If it's going to be Will Howard's turn under center in Pittsburgh, he could be pretty well prepared, as he's getting some additional help this offseason. Advertisement Howard revealed that legendary Pittsburgh quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger has been helping him this offseason. "We actually have the same agent, so we got connected through that," Howard said on Up & Adams. "He's been really good. He's been super supportive of me through this whole process. Throughout now being a Steeler, getting to know him, he's been really helpful for me. He texted me checking last week, you know, just been a really good mentor. I can see him being a good mentor for me going forward. He's been super nice to me so far." Howard admitted that he admired Roethlisberger growing up. "Growing up for me, watching Pittsburgh, it was Big Ben," Howard said. "Big Ben was that guy. He was Pittsburgh. He was the Steel City, the blue collar, the gritty guy. And I want to be that too. I want to bring that edge, that energy. I think I did a pretty good job of it Ohio State. I like to kind of pride myself on that, and I'm going to try and bring it to the Steel City." New York Giants' Cam Skattebo explains decision to wear No. 44

The number a player wears on the football field often has some kind of meaning. Some players wear the number of a player they want to emulate, generational talents often wear the same number as their family members, highly-valued and skilled players at times request the number of a former great on the team that selected them, and still others wear a number with a different meaning altogether. New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo chose to wear No. 44 for his family, as he revealed in a recent interview with Kay Adams. "Obviously I wanted No. 4, but it's retired," Skattebo said on Up & Adams. "My brother wore No. 44 in high school and growing up, and I've worn it a couple times in the past, so it's kind of a family number, a generational thing for me and my family. I wear one four for me and one four for him." Advertisement Skattebo wore No. 4 at Arizona State, but the Giants retired No. 4 after Tuffy Leemans was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Skattebo didn't ask to wear it, he simply chose a different number that had meaning to him. Another notable Giants running back, Ahmad Bradshaw, also wore No. 44. Bradshaw was with the Giants from 2007-2012, and over those six seasons, he carried the ball 921 times for 4,232 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also had 132 receptions for 1,087 yards and three more touchdowns. Skattebo may not be wearing the No. 4 he wanted, but No. 44 isn't so bad, either. J.J. McCarthy: I would say I'm 100 percent

J.J. McCarthy revealed on Tuesday that the Vikings have not told him that he's going to be their starting quarterback in 2025. But after being sidelined for his rookie year due to a knee injury, he's on track to be able to earn the role during the offseason. In his Tuesday interview on Up & Adams, McCarthy said his knee is 'fantastic.' 'I mean, I would say I'm 100 percent,' McCarthy said. 'But, just staying consistent with the rehab process, not wavering from that, staying disciplined with all the outside stuff, and making sure I'm not chopping too much wood and all that fun stuff.' McCarthy suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during Minnesota's first preseason game, undergoing surgery to repair it, which kept him out for the rest of 2024. Still, McCarthy found a silver lining in not being able to play. 'It was the ultimate blessing because it's just a time of stillness where you really get to reflect, and introspect, and find a routine — especially early on in this career and this profession,' McCarthy said. 'It's huge for young guys to find that habitual routine that they can rely on and stay consistent with. So, I would say that was the biggest thing for me.' The Vikings currently have McCarthy and Brett Rypien on their roster at QB, which would make McCarthy the clear first man up. But Minnesota is likely to add at least one more signal-caller before offseason programs get into full swing to help evenly distribute the reps.

J.J. McCarthy yet to be told he's Vikings' starting QB as team could revisit Aaron Rodgers

J.J. McCarthy is the presumed starting quarterback for the 2025 Minnesota Vikings, but the specter of Aaron Rodgers remains out there with the veteran signal caller still unsigned. The Vikings have touched base with Rodgers' camp, but Kevin O'Connell has yet to announce who will take the first snap in Week 1. McCarthy, the Vikings' 2024 first-round pick who missed the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury, appeared on the "Up and Adams" show on Tuesday and was asked by host Kay Adams if he's been informed that he is the team's No. 1 quarterback heading into next season. J.J. McCarthy reveals the Minnesota Vikings haven't told him he's the No. 1 QB, and he's "happy they didn't."@heykayadams | @jjmccarthy09 — Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) March 25, 2025 "Um, they haven't told me," said the 22-year-old McCarthy. "I'm happy they didn't because I'm trying to earn that every single day. I never want that to be given to me. It's such a privilege and opportunity to give me that chance and I'm just going to make the most of that every single day." NFL teams have reportedly contacted the Vikings about McCarthy's availability in a trade but have been told he's staying put and is their starter going forward. The Michigan product is in the franchise's long-term plans, but there was a thought that Rodgers, who was said to be intrigued by the Minnesota option, could be a short-term option, especially since McCarthy hasn't done any football activity since last August. As for his condition, McCarthy told Adams he's feeling "100%." "Just staying consistent with the rehab process and not wavering from that and staying disciplined with all the outside stuff," McCarthy said As McCarthy waits to hear officially that he's the team's No. 1 in 2025, Rodgers remains unsigned with teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants among those still interested.
