Bring it on, Anwar dares opposition to table no-confidence vote
PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the opposition to bring a vote of no-confidence in Parliament if they plan to remove him from power.
The Prime Minister said that he has instructed Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to allow a motion of no-confidence against him if it was raised in Parliament today.
The Dewan Rakyat session begins today (July 21).
Anwar said this at a gathering of the Prime Minister's Department staff here at the Dewan De' Seri Endon Puspanitapuri today.
"There are those who said Anwar must step down. I hear the voices and there are those who want to rally (to make me step down). The police gave me a report and I said don't block the roads. When asked what is the priority of the rally, the organisers said that 'the government must be changed. We do not want to wait for the general elections.' So, I said it is ok. I told the Speaker that if there is a motion of no-confidence, bring it on. On this first day of Parliament, I wait for the motion of no-confidence vote.
"But they (the opposition) know that they cannot (bring the motion), as I have the support of two thirds majority (of Dewan Rakyat). They are pushing to topple the government. We will be firm if it goes against the constitution and laws," said Anwar.
He said that all the good work of the current government will go down the drain if chaos reigns and the country is not deemed safe.
The opposition is planning a rally titled 'Himpunan Turun Anwar' scheduled for July 26, which the Home Ministry has said it will facilitate, with 2,000 police personnel deployed to manage the gathering.
