Eurovision ‘disaster': Drag queen star Courtney Act suffers wardrobe malfunctions moments before Go-Jo's debut

Moments before WA's Go-Jo (Marty Zambotto) took to the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, drag queen and commentator Courtney Act faced 'disaster'. Act, whose real name is Shane Jenek, was getting into full glam in her hotel when a major wardrobe malfunction occurred. . The drag star, loved for her appearances on realities shows like Australian Idol and RuPaul's Drag Race, had to put her sewing skills to the test after the zip on her specially made Milkshake Man costume snapped right off. Act had used a common drag queen trick to help her get into her costume. Her white custom dress had a long string attached to the zipper on the back so that she could simply pull the string and be zipped in. However, on first attempt, Act, who has recently been boasting about progress made in the gym, snapped the zipper. It is unclear if Act was perhaps too strong for the zipper, or if it just wasn't up for the job. 'Disaster struck when my zipper broke getting ready!' Act wrote on Instagram. 'Will I make it to the ball on time? Or just keep my back to the wall the whole night so no one notices my gaping dress?' she joked. In a video posted on social media, Act could be seen removing the dress, attempting to fix the zip, then trying again. Sadly, disaster struck once more with the zip breaking for a second time. Act did eventually make it to the Eurovision Song Content semi final two, revealing later online that someone in her hotel lobby saved the day and managed to fix the broken zipper. Former Biggest Loser Host Michelle Bridges commented: 'OMFG I felt your pain instantly!!! 🤯🤬 zippers!!!!!' WA born Go-Jo 'did Australia proud,' Act wrote online. Sadly, the Milkshake Man's chances of winning poured down the sink when voting was announced, with Australia not one of the 10 counties securing the most votes from the semi final, meaning Go-Jo would not proceed to the grand final. 'This experience has been truly amazing, and I feel so lucky to have shared this incredible opportunity with so many talented artists,' Gojo said after the results were handed down. 'I've never felt more comfortable to share my art than on the Eurovision stage and with all the wonderful Eurovision fans around the world. 'I've made memories I'll cherish forever, and I want to say a huge thank you to Australia for all the incredible support – I hope I made you proud.' The Eurovision Song Contest resumes live at 5am AEST on Sunday, but those not wanting to wake up early can catch a replay on the semi finals and the grand finals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night on SBS.

Castro-Arabejo publicly came out as a transgender woman in 2016. "I wanted to make sure that if I was going to come out as a trans woman, I wanted to do it right, and I didn't want it to be about Drag Race," she said in a 2018 interview with Billboard. She continued: "I wanted to come out because I was ready to come out. I have been living as a trans woman for so long, but I just never told the audience and the fans that. I was actually transitioning while I was on the show, I just never talked about it. I didn't want it to be my storyline, because being a trans woman is not what defines me, and I didn't want me being a trans woman have anything to do with the show. I always wanted to keep my personal life and my work life separate." Jiggly Caliente attends RuPaul's DragCon NYC 2017 on September 9, 2017, in New York City. Her talent, truth, and impact will never be forgotten, and her legacy will continue to slay—always. We're holding her family, friends, and fans close in our hearts during this difficult time." Drag Race Season 14 contestant June Jambalaya posted several photos via Instagram: "I've tried to find the right words so many times, but nothing ever felt enough. So I decided to just be honest. Jiggly wasn't just my drag mother she was my safe place, my human diary, my compass when I was lost. There were so many moments I came to her broken, defeated by the business I love so much, a business that I felt didn't always love me back. And every time, she reminded me of my worth: how beautiful, how talented I was, how my gift could never be measured by a placement on a show. She showed me that beating the odds was possible because she had, and she believed I could too, even when I couldn't see it for myself." RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage shared a sweet tribute on Instagram: "My jiggles.... The laughter was endless, our talks were special, your energy was contagious. You were and remain so very loved. This world has lost an angel and we want you to soar high.....I love you so much honey @jigglycalienteofficial." Drag Race France host Nicky Doll said on Instagram: "I will miss our rotted, rotted, phone conversations cackling like hyenas about random stuff. Thank you for being one of the first ones to call when you heard the news about Drag Race France and to always have the biggest smile on your face when we saw each other. Waking up to this isn't easy but it shows how much you've touched so many people. You were a girl's girl. We love you Bianca." Drag Race Season 10 star Kameron Michaels posted via Instagram: "I'm not the easiest egg to crack, but some of the girls were determined to get to know the real me and @jigglycalienteofficial was one of them. We only worked together for one tour, but she has been in my DMs since day one cheering me on."

Lady Gaga delivered a five-act career-spanning — and perhaps defining — performance, Benson Boone sang 'Bohemian Rhapsody' with Queen's Brian May on guitar and Lisa drew a massive crowd to the Sahara tent as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival opened in the California desert. The 2025 edition, kicking off the year's big music festival season, started Friday and runs through Sunday, followed by April 18 to 20. Held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley stretch of the Sonoran Desert, Coachella is one of the most influential music events on the calendar — and can sometimes tease what's forthcoming in the zeitgeist. Lest we forget Chappell Roan's career-confirming performance in 2024, when she introduced herself to the crowd with 'I'm your favorite artist's favorite artist,' a reference to 'Ru Paul's Drag Race' winner Sasha Colby. In many ways, it marked a moment when Roan moved from an obsession for those with their fingers on music's pulse to a mainstream success story, foreshadowing her breakout year. That's the beauty of Coachella. This year, like every year, Coachella's lineup spans genre and generation: Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone and Travis Scott. Charli XCX, Missy Elliott, Megan Thee Stallion, Kraftwerk, Mustard, Tyla, Japanese Breakfast, Arca. Weezer and Ed Sheeran joined the billing last minute. FKA Twigs was also set to play both Friday dates but had to cancel her performances due to ongoing visa issues. Whether you were able to attend, watched the live stream, or are hoping to experience the excitement in a few short clicks, flip through AP's Coachella gallery and catch a glimpse of some of music's most exciting performances.
