SGPC, DSGMC clash over Guru Tegh Bahadur martyrdom anniv

Amritsar: A war of words has erupted between the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) over the observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom anniversary, after SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami accused DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka of hastily announcing commemoration programmes without coordination with the SGPC. Kalka, in the recent past, wrote a letter to Dhami urging that the commemoration functions should be held jointly, which would reflect the spirit of Panthic unity. "Since Guru Sahib attained martyrdom at the site of Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi, the main functions will be centred there," the letter stated, while adding that these commemoration events will be presided over by the SGPC. Responding to this, Dhami on Tuesday questioned, "Why was Kalka's proposal limited to a letter while he was independently announcing programmes and holding meetings with different organisations?" Dhami said that the DSGMC president should not have hastily announced his own programmes, but rather coordinated with the SGPC. In reply to Dhami's response, Kalka said that DSGMC requested the SGPC president to play the role of an elder brother in organising the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. He said, in the recent past, he held meetings with various Panthic organisations in Amritsar during which the representatives of the SGPC were also present, who assured that they would not create any disruption in the events being organised by the DSGMC. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brandi's Journey: Life After Storage Wars Paperela Undo DSGMC general secretary, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, said DSGMC has the primary right to organise the 350th martyrdom commemorations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, as both the Guru's martyrdom and his final rites took place in Delhi. Citing this, he said the DSGMC sought support from all Panthic institutions and sects, who, in turn, assured their full cooperation. Giving further details, Kalka said that with the support of the Sangat, the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib will be commemorated on a grand scale, in a way that will be remembered across the world. The historic events will be held not only at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, the site of Guru Sahib's martyrdom, and Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, where his last rites were performed, but also at the Red Fort. These events will witness participation from the country's top leadership, he claimed. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Pune police register murder bid case after HC raps cop over refusal to lodge FIR

Pune: The Pune police finally on Aug 6 registered an attempted murder and rioting case against four men and their two to three unknown aides after some scathing remarks from the Bombay high court on Aug 5 over the senior inspector of Khadak police station's refusal to register the case in a cross-complaint resulting from a road rage incident on April 26, 2025 at Guru Nanaknagar in Bhavani Peth. "Our judicial conscience is shocked by the conduct of the Khadak police station. This is a fit case for issuing directions to the Commissioner of Police to initiate stringent action against the SHO (Station House Officer), Shashikant Chavan, for his refusal, even in this court, to register the FIR on the basis of the complaint filed by the present petitioner," the HC bench of Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad said. Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told TOI, "We will issue a show-cause notice as directed by the court to the senior inspector this week and will follow all the court's directions." The only dispute was of blowing a horn which resulted in the road rage incident." Despite the HC's directive to appear in person, SHO Chavan proceeded on leave and got his police inspector (crime) to represent him before the court and submitted through the prosecution that he won't register an FIR. The bench took a serious view of this approach. "It, thus, appears that he (Chavan) has voluntarily chosen not to remain present before the court to assist the learned APP (additional public prosecutor). The high court is not expected to wait till the said officer makes up his mind to assist the learned APP," the bench said. Sayyed has secured his release on bail from a city court in the complaint lodged by the Keshwanis. His brother's anticipatory bail plea is pending in the high court. When contacted, senior PI Chavan told TOI, "I have no comments to offer considering the court's order and the show-cause notice that I am likely to receive and will reply to." A senior police officer, who did not wish to be named, said, "Chavan went on leave on Aug 4 citing personal reasons and is expected to resume work from Aug 11."
