‘Deliveroo to Celtic' – Hoops star reveals he delivered fast food on a bike just a few years before Parkhead move

It's been a whirlwind few years for the player DRIVING FORCE 'Deliveroo to Celtic' – Hoops star reveals he delivered fast food on a bike just a few years before Parkhead move LIAM SCALES has been delivering the goods for Celtic since becoming a mainstay in the Hoops defence. But before he sealed his dream move to Parkhead, the Republic of Ireland international was delivering to customers instead of fans - as a Deliveroo driver. He didn't manage to force his way into then manager Ange Postecoglou's plans right away despite making 13 appearances in all competitions in his first season in Glasgow. He was then shipped out on loan to Aberdeen for the following campaign where he introduced himself fully to Celtic fans with a wonder strike against Rangers at Pittodrie. He then became an established player in the Hoops first team when he returned for the 2023/24 campaign and has never looked back. And during his colourful youth career while at UCD in the League of Ireland, Scales has revealed he took on a job as a delivery driver to earn money while on a youth player contract. He discussed his colourful background in an honest interview while playing a round of golf with YouTuber Jack Keaney. The interview was uploaded on his channel Jack's Tee Time Talks, and the host was already well-aware of his past - but got mixed up with which courier service the footballer worked for. Celtic star Daizen Maeda spotted doing press-ups in technical area after being subbed-off against Sporting Lisbon "We weren't getting paid (playing football). We were on the scholarship, but to get a few quid I started doing Deliveroo." Scales went on to explain that he chose to join UCD BECAUSE of the scholarship system they had available. I always loved it when I was younger. 3 Liam Scales (right) playing for UCD in 2019 Credit: Sportsfile - Subscription "My dad would say whenever he came to pick me up from nursery I was just out the back kicking a ball into a goal. "My mum was a teacher so she always wanted me and the siblings to do well at school and we did. "We always had the choice to do whatever we wanted but we were good academically so doing that education while plying football was perfect for me."
