[UPDATED] Ismail Sabri to be quizzed over asset declaration, says Azam
KUALA LUMPUR: Graftbusters will record former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's statement over his asset declaration on Thursday. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said Ismail Sabri will be called in again to have his statement recorded, following a series of earlier visits. "This time it concerns the declaration of assets he submitted to us under Section 36(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009," he told a press conference today after attending the 11th Certified Integrity Officer Convocation Ceremony 2025 at the World Trade Centre. Previously, Ismail Sabri had declared his assets to the MACC on Feb 10 and was questioned by the commission's officers on Feb 19. Earlier, it was reported that the Bera member of parliament was being investigated for corruption and money laundering involving the expenditure and procurement of funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure as prime minister from Aug 2021 to Nov 2022. The case is being investigated under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 as well as the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. On March 3, it was reported that Ismail Sabri was a suspect in the corruption and money laundering investigation, following the discovery of approximately RM170 million in cash in various currencies and 16 kilograms of gold bars in a safe house during a raid by the MACC. The MACC also reportedly froze 13 bank accounts to assist in the investigation.

Ismail Sabri to resume recording statement at MACC this Thursday
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will recall Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this Thursday to resume recording his statement as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the upcoming session pertains specifically to the former prime minister's asset declaration submitted under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009. 'Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri is being recalled to continue providing his statement,' Azam said briefly after attending the 11th Certified Integrity Officer Convocation Ceremony 2025 held today. The Bera member of parliament is under investigation over alleged corruption and money laundering involving the acquisition and use of funds for the promotion and publicity of the 'Keluarga Malaysia' programme during his tenure from August 2021 to November 2022. The investigation is being conducted under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. On March 3, Azam was reported as stating that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in a corruption and money laundering case, following the discovery of approximately RM170 million in multiple currencies and 16 kilogrammes of gold bars during an MACC raid at a designated safe house. Additionally, MACC has reportedly frozen 13 bank accounts to facilitate the ongoing investigation. On the illegal encroachment of land in Raub, Pahang, Azam confirmed that MACC had opened an investigation on the matter in 2021 and will continue its investigation in light of recent developments. 'Our focus will be on two aspects: first, the element of corruption concerning how the illegal land encroachments occurred over a certain period, and second, issues of governance within the district office and the Land and Mines Office,' he said. On April 14, the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, took a firm stance that there should be no unlawful encroachment of land in the state and that appropriate action must be taken against those involved. Previously, an enforcement operation at durian orchards in Raub drew widespread attention, following claims by some growers expressing grievance over the destruction of their crops. However, the Pahang government has denied any violation of a court order with the felling of approximately 200 Musang King durian trees in Sungai Klau, Raub, on April 8.

Probe into graft allegations involving Sabah reps continuing, says Azam
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still investigating allegations of corruption involving several Sabah state assemblymen. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the investigation remains ongoing, although forensic reports on the 10 viral video recordings have yet to be completed. "I expect the report to be ready soon, as the forensic unit is conducting a thorough analysis of all the video recordings. "As I mentioned during a press conference in Sabah a few weeks ago, eight individuals have already been called to give their statements, including a new case involving defamatory claims that is also being investigated," he told a press conference after attending the 11th Certified Integrity Officer Convocation Ceremony 2025 at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre (WTC) here, on Tuesday. Azam urged the public to be patient and to refrain from making any speculation. On April 10, the MACC chief confirmed that the 10 video recordings submitted to graft busters, allegedly linked to corruption involving Sabah assemblymen, were under analysis. Azam said the review must be as thorough as that carried out on eight earlier videos published by a news portal. He also said investigations into the eight assemblymen and another individual would continue, even though the authenticity of the videos has yet to be verified.
