Who Was Joyce Catherine Badon? Dad Who Found Dead Boy Searching for His Young Daughter Gets Devastating News She Died in Texas Floods
A father who found a young boy's body while searching for his missing daughter after the devastating Texas floods has now received the heartbreaking news of his daughter's death. Ty Badon received the news that his daughter, Joyce Catherine Badon, 21, died three days after she was swept away by floodwaters in Hunt, Texas. Her mother, Kellye Badon, shared the update on Monday. "God showed us the way we should go this morning! We found our lovely daughter who blessed us for 21 years! ❤️ We pray to be able to find her three friends soon. Thanks to EVERYONE for the prayers and support. God is good! ❤️❤️❤️" she wrote. Searching for Dead Daughter Family members later confirmed to News4SanAntonio and 12NewsNow that Joyce had died in the catastrophic floods. The heartbreaking news came after her father, Ty, found the body of another child while desperately searching for his daughter, who is among at least eight confirmed victims. Over the weekend, Ty Badon was searching through the epicenter of the devastation in the rural town of Hunt when he came upon the body of a young boy—one of at least 89 victims claimed by the floods. "My son and I were walking, and what I thought was a mannequin... it was a little boy, about eight or 10 years old, and he was dead," Badon told CNN. The heartbroken father shared that he had been searching for his Joyce, 21, and his voice broke at the end of the interview as he asked the public to keep them in their prayers. Badon said that the last known contact with Joyce was on July 4, the day the floods hit, when she was on a phone call with three of her friends. The group had been staying in a cabin owned by one of the parents in the scenic town of Hunt, located around 120 miles west of Austin, Texas. During the call, Joyce told the cabin's owner that two members of their group had already been swept away by the rising waters, Badon said. "A few seconds later, the phone went dead, and that's all we know," Badon said. "We presume that she got washed away as well. If you go back to where the house is, it's not a good sight." An Unexpected Loss Badon said that the house where the group had been staying is "no longer there." "We're praying all four of them are still alive. They're all missing," he said. His daughter is one of many still missing, including 27 children, after the Guadalupe River surged over 26 feet in just 45 minutes during the early morning hours of July 4, unleashing a powerful wave of water that swept through several Kerr County communities. Governor Greg Abbott said on Sunday that 41 people were officially listed as missing across the state, with the possibility that more people have yet to be identified. Hundreds of young girls were attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp located along the river, and many others were vacationing in the rural area to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend. Residents are now questioning why authorities failed to issue flood warnings until 1:18 p.m. on July 3—the day the storms began—and initially labeled them as merely "moderate." The National Weather Service didn't upgrade the alert to a flash flood warning until 1 a.m. on Friday, declaring a Flash Flood Emergency by 4:30 a.m. However, by that time, floodwaters were already rushing into people's homes. Many Texans believe the delayed warnings led to the high death toll.

RI education commissioner speaks out against proposed federal cuts
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green was among a panel of education officials who spoke out against recommended funding cuts to the Department of Education by the Trump administration. 'As we saw in the budget, there are some areas that are completely gone,' Infante-Green said to U.S. senators at the hearing Tuesday evening, which included Sen. Jack Reed. The proposal is what President Donald Trump is calling the 'skinny budget,' which aims to cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the Department of Education in Fiscal Year 2026. One way the administration hopes to achieve this is by combining 18 K-12 grant programs into one and consolidating seven Individuals with Disability Education Act programs. 'We have to preserve the teachers, the education system, the rights that our students have because when I started teaching, those kids were in the basement,' Infante-Green said. RELATED: Trump orders plan to dismantle Education Department while keeping some core functions The Trump administration said the goal is to move funding to the states, empower parents and stop so-called 'woke programs.' 'Children will be taught civic values for schools that want federal, taxpayer funding,' White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller recently said to reporters about the plan. 'So, as we close the Department of Education and we provide funding to states, we are going to make sure these funds are not being used to promote communist ideology.' Meanwhile, Infante-Green says Rhode Island has had academic recovery since the pandemic, but could flatten if there are federal funding cuts. She explained that funding makes up 'over 15%' of the state's education budget and is 'irreplaceable.' ALSO READ: Trump administration says Harvard will receive no new grants until it meets White House demands In a statement, U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon said Trump's proposed budget 'puts students and parents above the bureaucracy.' 'It reflects the historic mandate I have been given to serve as the final Secretary of Education,' McMahon's statement added. The budget proposal had one area in education that avoided cuts: Charter schools. The proposal asked for $60 million in more funding for charters. Celtics look to bounce back after series-opening loss to Knicks
The Boston Celtics looked very much like the dominant team they were during the regular season in securing a lopsided first-round playoff series win. Suddenly, the Celtics are facing their first dose of adversity this postseason following a Game 1 loss to open Round 2. The Celtics missed an NBA playoff-record 45 of their 60 3-pointers and blew a 20-point lead in a 108-105 overtime loss to the New York Knicks. For Boston, it was a stunning result for a team that was 4-0 against its longtime rival during the regular season. Most glaring was the Celtics' performance from beyond the arc in clutch time during Game 1 against the Knicks. RELATED: Knicks come from 20 down, beat Celtics 108-105 in OT In the clutch, defined as the final five minutes of fourth quarter or overtime when the scoring margin is five points or less, the Celtics were just 1-for-8 from 3. In their 11 clutch losses during the regular season, Boston shot just 12-for-44 (27.3%) from 3. Still, coach Joe Mazzulla said it isn't something that needs a dramatic overcorrection heading into Game 2. 'You have to be able to make open shots,' Mazzulla said Tuesday. 'If the open ones go in, we're not having this conversation.' MORE: Celtics close out Magic 120-89 to win playoff series New York's Josh Hart is confident their victory wasn't just courtesy of a fluke shooting night by Boston. 'I think it's two-fold, right? Because I don't think we played our best basketball,' Hart said. 'Why are they not playing well? Is it because they're just off that day or is it because of good defense or the other team is playing well and forces them into playing that kind of style?' The Celtics were 19-2 during the regular season in games following a loss and are 4-0 over the past two postseasons (1-0 in the first round against Orlando). The rub? Of Boston's 21 losses during the regular season, 13 were at home. 'We've always bounced back,' guard Derrick White said. 'I don't expect nothing different now.'
