Pampang Masters champs for sixth time in a row

Kota Kinabalu: Pampang Masters Penampang won their sixth overall title in a row at the 13th Sabah Masters Athletics Open Championship (Samoc) 2025 held at Likas Stadium recently. The team represented by 115 athletes dominated the two-day event with a total haul of 75 golds, 41 silvers and 30 bronzes to top the medal tally. Advertisement Second place went to Kinabalu Knights Masters with 40 golds, 12 silvers, 14 bronzes and in third place was Papar Masters with 29 golds, 33 silvers and 23 bronzes. Two Pampang Masters athletes Yong Oi Mi (female 55-59) and Abdul Rashid @ Atus Matajam (male 70-74) were also named best athletes in their respective aged category. Yong rewrote three championship records to win the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m events, while Abdul Rashid set two records to capture the 1,500m and 5,000m walk titles as well as taking home two silvers in the 400m and 800m. The other best athletes on the list were Muhd Afiq Fillery Abdullah (independent M35-39); Tommy Dois Sibin (independent M40-44); Robert Kurus (Mimpaagat Masters M45-49); Jori Lagimin (PDRM M50-54); Mohd Salehen Mohd Noor (Selupoh Masters Athletics M55-59); Joney Baragang (Tenom Masters M60-64); Charlie Lee (KK Masters M65-69); James Lee Fook Min (independent M75-79); Ariffin Abdullah (Atlet Veteran Daerah Tutong Brunei M80-84); Nur Idayu Farhani Nakaran Abdullah (KK Masters F35-39); Angeline Jumpo (Tuaran Masters F40-44); Tammy Chew Tze Vui (KK Masters F45-49); Tiffany Soh (Selangor Masters F50-54); Su Chong Yeong (Papar Masters F60-64); Vironica Elau (Papar Masters F65-69); Turimah Winnie Jainul (Papar Masters F70-74); Kam Ah Boay (Melaka Masters F75-79) and Sri Hati Warjadi (Indonesia F 80-84). A total of 972 athletes and 40 clubs from within the country and also abroad took part in the annual event organised by Sabah Masters Athletics Association. Faxtive athletes shine at Sabah Masters Open Championship

Kota Kinabalu: The Faxtive Athletics Club (FXAC) of Labuan, affiliated with the Federal Territory of Labuan Athletics Association (POWPL) had a successful outing at the recent 13th Sabah Masters Athletics Open Championship held at Likas Stadium. The 37-member team represented by athletes from FXAC and POWPL finished 10th overall out of the 40 teams taking part in the two-day event. Advertisement They took home a total of 35 medals consisting of eight golds, 15 silvers and 12 bronzes. Jessica Suip was the toast of the team by setting a championship record in the women's 3,000m (age 35–39), clocking an impressive 22 minutes and 33.25 seconds to clinch the gold medal. The other gold medal winners were Allan Chin Ah Fatt (men's 800m 70-74), Cecilia Ang E Chen (women's 3,000m walking race 60-64), Chong Su Kim (women's discus throw 70-74), Jenny Han (women's shotput 80-84), Masry Ali (men's 1,500m 45-49), Nourince Patrick (women's 3,000m 60-64) and Roslina Abdul Kassim (women's 3000m walk race 35-39). The silvers were delivered by Allan Chin Ah Fatt, Amilisah Laisang, Chong Su Kim, Jenny Han, Junainah Azaman, Liew Mui Chin, Masry Ali, Noor Sofiah Raidin, Nur Aishah Pelagia, Poh Shiow Mei and Stella Josiris, while the bronze medals came from Amilisah Laisang, Cecilia Ang E Chen, Chong Su Kim, Japar Idris, Nur Aishah Pelagia, Poh Shiow Mei, Roslina Abdul Kassim and Tsen Chew Moi. In a joint statement from POWPL president Lee Khiat Kim and FXAC president Heng Jik Siang on Sunday, they commended the team led by Misliana Shafie, Jennifer Julius and Rosni Aliskah as managers. They said the athletes' outstanding performance and success reaffirmed their hard work, discipline and unwavering spirit amidst intense regional competition. They also thanked JK Sports, Rumah Asap, Edran Yeo and other generous sponsors for their support. Meanwhile, Heng extended the club's appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, managers, and to POWPL for their unwavering support.
