Willem Dafoe in Talks to Reunite With Robert Eggers for WERWULF — GeekTyrant

Robert Eggers is assembling a killer lineup for his next film, Werwulf , and it looks like Willem Dafoe will be part of it. The Oscar-nominated actor is in talks to star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Lily-Rose Depp also circling a role. Eggers will direct and co-write the script with his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. Werwulf is set for a Christmas Day 2026 release in North America through Focus Features, which is also producing and financing the project. Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Focus, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, and Chris and Eleanor Columbus executive producing for Maiden Voyage. As for Werwulf , the term originates from Old English and Germanic folklore, referring to a human who can transform into a wolf or a wolf-like creature. Sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English. This would mark the fourth collaboration between Eggers and Dafoe, who previously starred in The Lighthouse , The Northman , and Nosferatu . The two are also eyeing another project together, a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol at Warner Bros., with Eggers directing and Dafoe in early talks to star. Dafoe continues to stay busy as he recently appeared in A24's The Legend of Ochi and is currently filming the Apple Original Films project Tenzing . Up next, he'll appear in The Man in the Basement and The Birthday Party . Werwulf is shaping up to be another haunting, visually stunning entry in the filmmaker's growing body of mythic tales. Mark your calendars for December 25, 2026. Source: Deadline

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp to reunite with Robert Eggers on Werwulf

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are reportedly set to reunite with their Nosferatu director Robert Eggers for his new movie Werwulf. The British actor is set to star in the werewolf horror film, while Rose-Depp is in talks to join him, according to reports. The duo previously worked with Eggers on the 2024 Gothic vampire horror Nosferatu. Rose-Depp had the lead role as Ellen Hutter, a woman with a psychic connection with the vampire, and Taylor-Johnson played Friedrich Harding, the husband of Ellen's best friend. Eggers will direct the upcoming horror from a script he co-wrote with Icelandic novelist and poet Sjón, with whom he wrote his 2022 Viking epic The Northman. Werwulf, which is slated to open in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day next year, is set in 13th-century England and features Old English dialogue. Earlier this year, Eggers teased the film during a Q&A, saying, "It's a medieval werewolf movie. And it's also the darkest thing I've ever written. By far." That is a big claim, considering Eggers' previous films - including The Witch and The Lighthouse - have all been rather dark. Taylor-Johnson, who remains the frontrunner to take over the coveted role of James Bond from Daniel Craig, was most recently seen in Danny Boyle's zombie horror 28 Years Later. His upcoming projects include the thrillers Fuze and Blood on Snow. Meanwhile, Depp was added to the cast of the alien invasion comedy Alpha Gang alongside Chris Pine and Kelvin Harrison Jr. earlier this week. They join previously announced stars Cate Blanchett, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista, and Riley Keough.

Werwulf Cast: 2 Nosferatu Actors Reunite in New Robert Eggers Movie

A new report suggests that Robert Eggers' cast has found two stars, who are very familiar to working with Eggers. According to a new report from Nexus Point News, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp will reunite with Eggers in the upcoming movie about werewolves. Taylor-Johnson and Depp just recently worked with Eggers on his last film, 2024's Nosferatu. Currently, it's unclear exactly what role either will have, or if their casting is fully official. The rest of Werful's cast is also unknown as of now, but Eggers did mention during the Nosferatu press tour that he had asked Willem Dafoe to be in two of his next movies. Werwulf will begin filming this September in Elstree, England. This means casting for the film is likely already underway, and we might know more information sooner rather than later. According to a Q&A Eggers took part in at the Lincoln Center, the director himself said that his upcoming Werwulf will be the 'darkest thing' he's ever written. The movie is currently slated to release on December 25, 2026. Details for the project are mostly unknown as of now, but the project will be set in 13th-century England, and much like Eggers' other projects, will feature dialogue and settings accurate to the period. Original rumors suggested the film would be in black and white, according to THR, but that won't be the case. Prior to the announcement of Werwulf, rumors suggested that Eggers had been tapped to direct a new Labyrinth movie. Eggers himself has also spoken about wanting to make a medieval movie known right now as The Knight, as well as one day hoping to make a Western film. He's also been rumored to be working on a miniseries about Grigori Rasputin, the Russian mystic and faith healer.
