The 15th Luxor African Film Festival returns with new competitions for diaspora and Upper Egypt youth filmmakers.
Aug 20, 2025
The Luxor African Film Festival has opened its call for films for the 15th edition, scheduled to run from 30 March to 5 April 2026 in southern Egypt's Luxor.
This year's edition, titled 'Youssef Chahine…Hadouta Masreya,' will honour the centenary of the legendary Egyptian filmmaker. The program will feature screenings of four of his newly restored films, paralleled by a touring video art exhibit showcasing film posters and rare photographs, as well as a bilingual (Arabic–French) publication documenting his life and cinematic legacy.
Filmmakers have until November 25th 2025 to submit works produced in 2025 that have not previously screened in Egypt. Competitions include feature-length and short films by African directors, diaspora filmmakers, and a special youth category for talents from Luxor and Qena governorates. Ahead of the festival, workshops will support local emerging filmmakers, especially those working with minimal budgets.
The festival will also feature an honorary presidency by renowned actor Mahmoud Hemida and is organised in partnership with multiple ministries, including Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Youth and Sports, and Foreign Affairs, and supported by local and national cultural institutions.
