1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Review

Travelers visit the lush island of Kauai for its stunning views, abundant waterfall hikes and pristine beaches. Nestled on a north shore hillside in Princeville overlooking the Pacific, the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is ideally located whether you're a first-timer or a repeat visitor who wants to stay put and soak in its gorgeous surroundings. As a frequent visitor to Kauai, I always prefer staying on the quieter north shore thanks to its untouched feel and serene atmosphere. On a recent trip, I checked into the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay with my family and found its signature blend of wellness, sustainability and understated luxury to fit right into the verdant locale. If you're planning a trip, here's what to know. divider Pool at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. Mikkel Vang divider With an open-air design and foliage interspersed throughout, the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is tastefully adorned in neutral tones and textures, with décor that uses locally sourced and reclaimed materials. The grounds feature native-plant landscaping and a 7,400-gallon rainwater harvesting system, and all restaurants on site are certified Ocean Friendly by the Surfrider Foundation. A sprawling main pool on the ground level by the beach welcomes all guests and features plenty of shallow ledges and hot tub nooks, as well as a separate lagoon pool with waterfalls (adults can also enjoy the upper-level infinity pool). The beach is on a large bay that connects to Hanalei by water: It's so dense with coral that you're likely to spot sea creatures (think sea turtles and manta rays) even if you're not actively snorkeling. Open-air lobby at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. AVABLU The Bamford Wellness Spa is a destination in itself, with 18 treatment rooms, as well as Touchless Therapies that include an ocean float room, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, infrared sauna and meditation pod. I booked the Intuitive Herbal Ritual, which combined a facial and massage and incorporated Kauai Pharmacy's excellent plant-based skincare products, ending with an application of tension-easing, warmed noni leaves. There are plenty of activities for families, from surfing and snorkeling to ohana nature walks and ukelele lessons (I still have the dried leis my son and I made in our oceanside ti leaf lei making class). Additional classes and events designed for a wide range of age groups are mapped out in the weekly Daylife calendar, and the hotel offers its own version of a kids club called Seedlings. divider The property has 252 rooms, including 51 suites, that have views of the ocean (looking out onto Hanalei Bay and beyond), mountains or a combination of both. With Kauai being known as the Garden Isle, there are no bad room views here. Ocean View King room at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. Ryan Forbes We stayed in an Ocean View room that looked out onto rolling waves and waterfall-studded mountains. An abundant fruit basket and housemade banana bread welcomed us upon check-in, and I appreciated the little plaque on the dresser that encourages anyone who wants to lighten their suitcase for their return trip to leave behind items for donation. Rooms feature Nespresso machines, craft snacks, a variety of beverages and yoga mats. Our bathroom had a rainfall shower, Bamford bath products (infused with a fragrant blend of geranium, lavender, peppermint and tonka, crafted exclusively for 1 Hotel), and a very convenient filtered water tap (along with plenty of refillable aluminum water bottles to use during our stay). divider Dining options abound at the hotel; all of the menus feature seasonal produce sourced from local farmers and growers—some even from the rooftop chef's garden. The main restaurant, 1 Kitchen, serves breakfast (daily buffet or à la carte), lunch and dinner. Dishes are globally-inspired, with plenty of inventive vegetable-forward options along with mainstays like sourdough pull-apart buns, housemade pastas and fresh local catch. Aerial view of 1 Kitchen at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. Mikkel Vang Although it's deemed a lounge, you can very well make a dinner out of an evening at Welina Terrace, which serves Japanese-inspired small plates, sushi rolls and a burnt cream gelato that I ordered more than once. Time your evening with the sunset and request a table on the terrace for insane views of Mount Makana and the rest of the bay. True to the hotel's wellness-focused theme, there are just as many locally inspired mocktails and low ABV drinks as there are signature cocktails (my favorite, the Kaua'i Tai, features a local macadamia nut orgeat topped with a lilikoi and hibiscus foam). Poolside food isn't typically the most impressive, but the Sandbox restaurant holds its own, offering everything from woodfired Neopolitan pizzas to ahi nachos and spicy poke bowls. The hotel also has a shave ice and gelato shop, juice bar that opens in the early hours (ideal for visitors still on mainland time), and the 1 Hotel's signature Neighbors cafe, serving açai bowls and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch fare. divider While the whole island of Kauai is worth exploring, my family likes to stay on the north shore thanks to its immediate proximity to dramatic coastlines and fantastic beaches, as well as its laid back vibe. The 1 Hotel's beachfront property is ideally located for plenty of outdoor activities, including paddleboarding, going on nature walks, or taking dips at Puu Poa or Hideaways beach. Nearby towns like Kilauea and Hanalei—as well as my favorite, Anini Beach—are less than a 20-minute drive away. A day trip to Waimea Canyon, nicknamed the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific,' will take you about an hour and a half by car—the longest drive you can make on the island's main roads. It's definitely worth taking in the breathtaking Nāpali Coast, which can be accessed on foot (via the rigorous 11-mile Kalalau Trail), by boat, or on an aerial helicopter tour (which I highly recommend). When visiting Kauai, it's best to rent a car, as taxis and rideshare are not as prevalent as on some of the other islands. The 1 Hotel does have a small fleet of electric Audi e-trons available for guests to drive in the local area. divider Despite its name, the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is in Princeville, just over the bridge from the town of Hanalei. It's about a 45-minute drive from Lihue Airport (LIH).

Selena Gomez's New Top 10 Hit Isn't Even A Single Yet

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' debuts at No. 4 on two U.K. charts, ... More keeping momentum alive for I Said I Love You. Selena Gomez at the Music + Health Summit presented by Universal Music Group and Thrive Global at 1 Hotel on September 19, 2023 in West Hollywood, California. (Photo by Michael Buckner/Billboard via Getty Images) The past few weeks have been massive for Selena Gomez. The pop star recently dropped I Said I Love You, a collaborative full-length with her fiancé, producer Benny Blanco. While the project is beginning to slip from some charts and many of its tracks are starting to cool, the lovebirds aren't done landing wins just yet. This frame, the pair collect another top 10 hit on several tallies in the U.K. thanks to a special reissue. 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' has emerged as one of the breakout tracks from I Said I Love You, just a short time after the set arrived – though it hasn't been positioned as a single just yet. The track opens at No. 4 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts in the U.K. this week. The tune was issued on vinyl and other physical formats recently, which gave Gomez's loyal fans a chance to snap up a collectible. 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' is now another top 10 success for Gomez in the U.K., while Blanco continues to build his chart résumé as an artist after years as a songwriter and producer. He's still catching up to her, of course, as Gomez has spent more time in the spotlight and has released more music under her own name. With this latest win, she's now earned six top 10 hits on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. She maintains her perfect track record, every tune of hers that's appeared on the ranking has reached the top tier. Her history on the Official Physical Singles chart is almost as strong. Gomez has now secured seven top 10 placements on that tally, though not every release has made it that far. Two of her entries have missed the region. 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' earns the third-highest debut on both U.K. tallies it reaches this frame. The only new releases that start higher? Doechii's 'Denial Is a River' launches at No. 1, while Jacob Alon's 'Liquid Gold 25' arrives at No. 2. At the same time, Chappell Roan's 'Good Luck, Babe!' leaps back into the top 10 on both charts, landing at No. 3. 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' is not Gomez's only hit on the U.K. rankings this week, though it is her most exciting. She keeps a total of five songs on at least one of the nation's charts. Three of those are from I Said I Love You, as 'Bluest Flame' and 'Sunset Blvd' are both still performing fairly well. Rounding out Gomez's presence on the U.K. charts this frame are a pair of older fan favorites. 'Bad Liar' and 'Fetish,' her collaboration with Gucci Mane, both return to the Official Physical Singles chart.

Travel Tuesday: Gardens becoming a more important part of the hotel experience

(CBS NEWSPATH) — Gardens are becoming a more important part of the hotel experience. Not just to enjoy the greenery, but to eat fresh foods and take part in activities that give a taste of the relaxation gardening can bring. The host of the Netflix show 'Instant Dream Home,' Nick Cutsumpas, led a gardening workshop at 1 Hotel Central Park this past fall, itself a green sanctuary in New York City. 'Especially post-pandemic when you saw so many people yearning for more greenery in their lives, I'm starting to see every hotel, no matter what their focus is, really starting to bring more green, in some kind of way, into their hotels experience,' Cutsumpas said. Can traveling make you feel younger? Here's what researchers say He partners with 1 Hotels nationwide for activities like pumpkin planting: Carving out the seeds and creating seasonal décor that's also therapeutic. 'For me, it's definitely my form of stress relief, and I think a lot of people see that too,' Cutsumpas said. New Yorker Scott Kuraoka has signed up a couple times. 'It's fun to do these workshops, to be a little creative, get to do things I probably wouldn't get to do at home,' Kuraoka said. The trend has also taken root at hotels with the space to create gardens on more land, like Kimpton Mas Olas Resort and Spa, north of Los Cabos, Mexico. Culinary director Sandro Falbo forages from his expansive gardens throughout the 25,000 square foot property where CBS News Correspondent Wendy Gillette stayed for a special rate, from vegetables to herbs and flowers. 'It's like for a kid in Toys R' Us more or less,' Falbo said. 'It's just the best.' He calls himself the seeds keeper, choosing what's grown to create colorful dishes, like salads with more than 30 fresh ingredients. 'What I love for example is a tomato that has been just kissed by the sun and eaten by the guest,' he said. Falbo also uses distillation to make herbal essence water, delivered to rooms every morning. 'People underestimate herbs,' he said. 'And people should put more herbs into the food because herbs are part of the medicine of plants.' In the spa, guests can use dried flowers and herbs to create their own aromatherapy blend, another aspect of a resort where nature stars. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Male Sex Worker Details Alleged Experience At Diddy 'Freak-Off' Parties

Another exposé on the alleged heinous actions of Sean 'Diddy' Combs has been published by Rolling Stone, where they interviewed a number of figures previously associated with the mogul. One of whom, a male sex worker using the pseudonym Nathan, shared his alleged experience of being paid by Puff for his services during the mogul's much-discussed 'freak-off' parties. Nathan claims that Diddy last reached out to him for a 'freak-off' in 2019, hoping to set up a threesome at 1 Hotel in Miami between the two men and a woman flying in from Hawaii. While that particular plan never came to fruition, Nathan claims he was paid anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000 for each sexual encounter, adding that the freak-offs were 'ritualistic,' involving the Bad Boy founder 'choreographing every movement' until he was no longer sober enough to do so. 'I think he would try to regulate her pleasure,' Nathan said of Puff directing their sex sessions. He also claims he was often summoned to 'lavish' hotel rooms in Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles, and was forced to surrender his phone before undressing and grabbing a bottle of baby oil that was warmed in a tub of hot water. 'I don't use baby oil to this day because of all the baby oil I used to put on me,' he told the publication. 'The hotel rooms were freezing. The baby oil was warm, so if you were cold and your clothes were locked in another room, the baby oil kept you warm.' In addition to participating, Nathan alleged that Puff also enjoyed playing the voyeur, standing in the shadows while watching him have sex with female guests — including Diddy's various girlfriends. 'He would pretend to leave the room but, like, go around the corner and crawl in the room on the floor and peek around the corner or use the mirrors,' Nathan claimed. 'Really creepy sh*t, obviously. Because it's, like, your girlfriend. Why do you even have to do that?' Nathan also spoke of Combs' alleged drug use, saying the 'All About The Benjamins' artist preferred ecstasy and ketamine, claiming they gave Combs 'that ecstatic feeling he needs for sex.' He also suspects Combs drugged him at a 'freak-off' giving him a 'horrible reaction.' 'This stuff had me so out of my mind,' he shared of the experience before describing the New Yorker as 'entrenched' in his compulsions. 'He's a sex addict…. He's an obsessive drug addict. That's a major part of his problem.' Combs' legal team has made an effort to frame Diddy as 'reformed' following the 2016 incident where he was seen abusing then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. They cited his willingness to come to NYC knowing he'd be arrested — rather than resist or go on the run — as a demonstration of his 'trustworthiness,' hoping it would lead to the producer being released on bond. 'It's bullsh*t,' Nathan proclaimed. 'He's not reformed. He just wanted to get out of jail. He's the same person.' While Combs' lawyers declined to address Nathan's claims, lead attorney Marc Agnifilo says that the defense in this case interviewed six male sex workers connected to Combs last September. 'I have asked all the questions I could think of: Was anybody too drunk? Was anybody too high? Did anyone express any hesitation? Was there the slightest inkling that possibly, possibly the woman wasn't consenting?…No. No. No. No.' Combs is currently awaiting trial at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of racketeering conspiracy; sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; and transportation to engage in prostitution.
