Selena Gomez's New Top 10 Hit Isn't Even A Single Yet

The past few weeks have been massive for Selena Gomez. The pop star recently dropped I Said I Love You, a collaborative full-length with her fiancé, producer Benny Blanco. While the project is beginning to slip from some charts and many of its tracks are starting to cool, the lovebirds aren't done landing wins just yet. This frame, the pair collect another top 10 hit on several tallies in the U.K. thanks to a special reissue.
'Younger and Hotter Than Me' has emerged as one of the breakout tracks from I Said I Love You, just a short time after the set arrived – though it hasn't been positioned as a single just yet. The track opens at No. 4 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts in the U.K. this week. The tune was issued on vinyl and other physical formats recently, which gave Gomez's loyal fans a chance to snap up a collectible.
'Younger and Hotter Than Me' is now another top 10 success for Gomez in the U.K., while Blanco continues to build his chart résumé as an artist after years as a songwriter and producer. He's still catching up to her, of course, as Gomez has spent more time in the spotlight and has released more music under her own name.
With this latest win, she's now earned six top 10 hits on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. She maintains her perfect track record, every tune of hers that's appeared on the ranking has reached the top tier.
Her history on the Official Physical Singles chart is almost as strong. Gomez has now secured seven top 10 placements on that tally, though not every release has made it that far. Two of her entries have missed the region.
'Younger and Hotter Than Me' earns the third-highest debut on both U.K. tallies it reaches this frame. The only new releases that start higher? Doechii's 'Denial Is a River' launches at No. 1, while Jacob Alon's 'Liquid Gold 25' arrives at No. 2. At the same time, Chappell Roan's 'Good Luck, Babe!' leaps back into the top 10 on both charts, landing at No. 3.
'Younger and Hotter Than Me' is not Gomez's only hit on the U.K. rankings this week, though it is her most exciting. She keeps a total of five songs on at least one of the nation's charts. Three of those are from I Said I Love You, as 'Bluest Flame' and 'Sunset Blvd' are both still performing fairly well.
Rounding out Gomez's presence on the U.K. charts this frame are a pair of older fan favorites. 'Bad Liar' and 'Fetish,' her collaboration with Gucci Mane, both return to the Official Physical Singles chart.

Alan Shirahama takes a break from EXILE

9 Jun - While Iwata Takanori is leaving EXILE, Alan Shirahama revealed that he is also leaving the group, although temporarily. The performer shared recently that he is putting his activities with the group on pause, and will focus more on his roles with GENERATIONS and PKCZ, as well as individual activities. "For this reason, I will not participate in EXILE's dome tour that will be held at the end of this year," he revealed. He also talked about how he had worked hard in the past by being a member of different groups, and while he was proud to be a member of EXILE, he ultimately decided to suspend EXILE activities considering his age and his ideal future. "I struggled a lot with this decision, but considering my age and vision I have for my future, this is the path I chose to take." Expressing his gratitude to the members for their understanding and support, Alan added, "Until the day I resume activities with EXILE, I want to keep refining myself. I'd be happy if you could continue to watch over me warmly." (Photo Source: Alan IG)

Ariel Kalma, French New-Age Pioneer, Dies at 78

Ariel Kalma, photo courtesy of the artist's estate and Rvng Intl. Ariel Kalma, the pioneering French new-age musician, electronic composer, and multi-instrumentalist, has died. The news was confirmed in a statement from record label Rvng Intl., who throughout the 2010s put out a compilation of Kalma's previously unreleased early recordings as well as several collaborative albums between himself and other artists. 'After contending with many health challenges over the past several years, his departure was sudden though peaceful,' it reads in part. He was 78. Born in Paris in 1947, Kalma's first instruments of choice were the recorder and saxophone. At the University of Paris he studied computer science and met the Belgian-Italian crooner Salvatore Adamo. After being invited by Adamo to join his touring band, Kalma learned how to play the flute within a week. During the late '60s and early '70s, he met and worked with bossa nova guitarist Baden Powell and, back in Paris, began to play around with ReVox reel-to-reel tape recorders. Chaining two of these machines together, Kalma was able to create analog loops of saxophone, church organ, and other instruments, layering them with poetry and found sound in his first original compositions. Time spent busking on the streets of New York City led to encounters with both free jazz trumpeter Don Cherry and godfather of American minimalism Terry Riley, but it was a one-way trip to India in 1974 that proved the genesis of Kalma's recording career proper. He later recalled a 'heart-opening' experience of being in an airplane hangar during monsoon season, which he documented on a portable tape recorder. While in India, Kalma also learned the technique of circular breathing, which allowed him to get continuous drones out of his instruments. Returning to Paris, he worked at Pierre Henry's INA-GRM Studio, frequently cited as the birthplace of modern electronic music, and self-released his debut album, Le Temps des Moissons, in 1975. Kalma released dozens of albums throughout the rest of the 20th century, and recorded even more music that never saw the light of day. Rvng Intl. gathered some of those early tape recorder compositions on 2014's An Evolutionary Music (Original Recordings: 1972 – 1979). The latter act of Kalma's career was largely defined by his collaborations with younger musicians. He worked with Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (of Lichens and 90 Day Men) on We Know Each Other Somehow in 2015, and last year shared The Closest Thing to Silence alongside the Los Angeles experimental duo Jeremiah Chiu and Marta Sofia Honer. 'Ariel was a true maestro,' Aubrey Lowe wrote in memory of Kalma, 'a gentle, thoughtful human who maintained a wonder and enthusiasm for creative work throughout his entire life.'
