Pats Peak Advertisement THERE Advertisement A new Seattle hotel with a luxury feel and nature-based vibe Feel connected to nature in the middle of a bustling city at 1 Hotel Seattle, a new hotel in the South Lake Union neighborhood that's within eyeshot of the Space Needle and within walking distance of the Museum of History and Industry on Lake Union and the Pike Place Market area less than a mile away. The hotel, formerly the Pan Pacific Seattle, has an earthy yet upscale Pacific Northwest feel with wooden room keys, mossy wall murals, driftwood sculptures, a giant chandelier made of lichen in the gift shop, and live-edge tables throughout, plus numerous potted plants and a wonderful woodsy aroma in the lobby. Sit on a fur-lined chair in the lobby and enjoy locally distilled spirits from Drift, the onsite bar, and enjoy a creative fusion of Mediterranean, Spanish, and Japanese cuisine at La Loba restaurant. The hotel, part of the Starwood Hotels group, has 108 rooms and 45 suites. Each one has a tree branch-style coat rack on the wall, furnishings made from reclaimed wood, plants, a faucet with filtered water in the bathroom, and a small wooden board that explains the hotel's '1 Less Thing' program, offering guests a chance to leave behind unneeded clothing that will be donated to a local family shelter. The hotel has an outdoor patio with Space Needle views, but cozier furniture in little sitting areas overlooking a two-story mural made from moss, sticks, and leaves. The onsite gym, called the Field House, has Peloton bikes, free weights, and cardio machines, but guests also get free access to sessions at DRYP Yoga Studio across the street. One of my favorite features: The FreeFloat hipbelt, which enables the pack to fit securely at your hips yet move freely from the pack's frame for added comfort over the trail miles. The honeycombed Air-Cushion mesh back panel allows for great air flow when temps — or efforts — spike, helping to keep the pack off your back and the air circulating. Each pack has an adjustable torso and hipbelt (great for growing kids), two zippered pockets in the lid and on the hipbelt, mesh water bottle sleeves, a mesh stuff pouch up front for stashing rain gear, a whistle, and an internal pouch for your hydration bladder. It also comes with a zippered bottom compartment — offering a second access point — and color-coded side straps that make it easier to pair up straps correctly. The other top feature: An easy-access pocket on one shoulder strap with a built-in elastic bungee that's specifically designed to hold your Garmin inReach Mini or Messenger (or any small satellite communicator) — perfect for keeping it within reach but from bouncing around while you hike. The Paragon comes in 50, 60, and 70 liters (ranging from 3.3 to 3.8 pounds), while the Maven is available in 48, 58, and 68 liters (3.2 to 3.6 pounds). $239.95-$289.95. I spent a night in a brand-new luxury hotel in Seattle. I wasn't familiar with the chain, but now I'll book it worldwide.
The luxury 1 Hotel Seattle opened on May 6. I stayed there four days later. The 1 Hotels chain has been around since 2015 and operates worldwide. It has locations in the US, the UK, and China, among other places. Nearly a dozen locations are open and running, and more are coming soon to Texas, Mexico, Copenhagen, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Every 1 Hotel is centered on nature and sustainability, according to the company's website. The newest location in Seattle opened on May 6 and has a starting rate of $400 a night, a hotel representative told Business Insider. The hotel is located on the southern edge of South Lake Union, Seattle's tech neighborhood. It's less than a mile from the waterfront and Pike Place Market. "All 1 Hotels are rooted in their surroundings, so what sets 1 Hotel Seattle apart is how deeply it channels the spirit of the Pacific Northwest," general manager Rob Brandenberg told BI. The natural vibe of the hotel was clear upon entering. I was greeted with a driftwood sculpture of the brand's signature No. 1. Organic textures filled the space, from the floors to the walls. "The hotel draws from the raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest, with reclaimed wood, natural stone, moss-inspired art, and live-edge furnishings woven throughout the design," Brandenberg said. I stepped inside a hotel lobby unlike any other I'd seen before. The lobby brought the outside in with furniture resembling tree trunks, potted plants of all sizes, and what Brandenberg calls a "living wall of greenery" climbing two stories behind a reclaimed timber and stone staircase. As I stepped inside, a soothing soundtrack made me feel like I was in some kind of sanctuary. I was listening to the Sounds of 1, the chain's signature playlist curated by Michaelangelo L'Acqua, the global entertainment director for 1 Hotels' parent company, Starwood Hotels. "Acoustic instrumentation and soulful vocals are balanced with select electronic elements, creating a sound that transitions seamlessly from the energy of the day into the moodier tones of night," a hotel representative told BI in an email. "The music ebbs and flows with the rhythm of the property, complementing the natural materials and calming atmosphere found throughout the space." With a calming soundtrack inspired by nature, an array of organic textures to touch, and greenery surrounding me, I thought the lobby was a great place to practice mindfulness. The hotel had a restaurant and a lobby bar. Brandenberg said the on-site restaurant, La Boba, fuses Spanish, Japanese, and Mediterranean cuisine using local ingredients. "And at Drift, the lobby bar, guests can expect fresh, locally sourced ingredients and Pacific Northwest-distilled spirits — an elevated yet easygoing take on modern mixology," he added. Brandenberg said the hotel works with local farmers and offers zero-waste mixology classes. Across from the lobby, there was a gift shop. The 1 Hotels gift shop, Good Things, has a sustainable clothing collection with youth and adult sizes, accessories, scents, and other small items. Six event spaces were spread out on the second floor. On the same floor, there was an outdoor terrace. The patio, which is open year-round, was surrounded by towering buildings and trees with a stellar view of the iconic Space Needle. Brandenberg called it a "quiet spot to connect with nature." The second floor also housed the gym. Known as the Field House, the on-site gym had free weights and cardio machines, like resistance treadmills and Peloton bikes, as well as group classes and personal training sessions. A basket of green apples and a filtered water tap were also near the entrance. My room calmed me with warm lighting and natural hues. The hotel has 153 rooms, 45 of which are suites. I stayed in a 327-square-foot City King room. The room had a king-sized bed with organic linen sheets across from a 55-inch TV. It also had a cozy sitting area, a wardrobe, and a full bathroom. I found many amenities, from an espresso machine and a mini bar to a yoga mat. Nods to the natural environment were everywhere. The reclaimed wood headboard was anchored above a tree-trunk nightstand. A tree-like coat rack hung on the wall next to a potted plant with draping vines on the console table. The bathroom blended nature and modern luxury. The bathroom surfaces were a mix of natural materials, from wood bases to Chiara quartzite counters. A rainfall shower with pebble stone flooring was on one side of the room. On the other side was a large bathtub with a sliding door opening to the rest of the room, so I could watch TV while soaking in the tub. Inside the bathroom, I found Bamford toiletries, a hairdryer, slippers, and a robe that felt like a giant sweatshirt. The standout parts of the room were the sustainable amenities. I found amenities I'd never seen in a hotel room before. Rather than a greeting printed on cardstock, my welcome message was written on a textured chalkboard. Instead of disposable water bottles, my room had a filtered water tap and glassware sourced from recycled wine bottles. There was also a small, wooden plaque detailing the hotel's "1 Less Thing" program, where guests can leave clothing to donate to Mary's Place, a local family shelter the hotel partners with. These details set 1 Hotel Seattle apart from other luxury accommodations I've booked around the world. "This isn't just another hotel," Brandenberg said. "It's a place for travelers who care about where they stay, how they stay, and the impact they leave behind." The natural vibe of the hotel was so alluring that it made me want to be a more sustainable traveler. Now I'll stay in a 1 Hotel every chance I get.

It's just minutes from Seattle's iconic waterfront, the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Climate Pledge Arena, and Amazon's headquarters. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a monumental driftwood sculpture by local artist Alison Stigora, a bespoke piece that sets the tone for what lies within. The lobby is anchored by a lush living wall and a sculptural winding staircase fashioned from reclaimed timber and stacked stone featuring a railing hand-stitched with domestic leather. Overhead are massive Douglas fir beams—a nod to Seattle's maritime and industrial past. Throughout the space, details celebrate Pacific Northwest voices and materials and reinforce a deep connection to the land and its history. There are textiles that pay tribute to the Coast Salish Tribes, handmade tiles from a Pacific Northwest ceramics studio surrounding a fireplace, and an art collection curated in collaboration with local galleries. Guests can also unwind year-round on the outdoor terrace, a fire-lit, plant-filled patio framed by a wooden trellis and Northwest greenery. Sanctuary-Style Guest Rooms The 153 guest rooms, including 45 suites, are serene spaces inspired by the Pacific Northwest's forests, shorelines, and mountains. The spaces are layered with organic textures and handcrafted materials like reclaimed wood walls, pebble stone floors, Chiara quartzite counters, and live-edge furnishings from Seattle's own Tirto Furniture. Wallcoverings with nautical motifs and curated plantings line the corridors, while moss art and locally sourced artwork deepen the sense of place. Many of the rooms and suites have views of the Space Needle or city skyline. Sustainable touches include in-room water filtration systems with carafes made from recycled wine bottles, 100% organic linens atop plush pillow-top mattresses, Nespresso machines with recyclable pods, yoga mats, and Bamford bath products infused with essential oils. Every element is both luxurious and low-impact, from chalkboards replacing paper to bamboo-based tissue to energy-saving smart thermostats. Guests can also take part in the 1 Less Thing program, a simple but powerful initiative that encourages leaving gently used clothing behind for donation to local nonprofit Mary's Place. Dining With a Sense of Place 1 Hotel Seattle's culinary program celebrates the bounty of the Pacific Northwest through a bold, hyper-local lens with global influences. The signature restaurant is La Loba, Spanish for "the she-wolf." A soulful, transportive experience that channels the strength and mystery of the natural world, La Loba is led by acclaimed Chef Oscar Amador Edo—a James Beard Award finalist known for redefining tapas in Las Vegas. Chef Oscar's dishes balance technique and storytelling, drawing on the rustic flavors of Spain and infusing them with Japanese influences, Mediterranean brightness, and Seattle's rich ingredients. From wood-fired seafood to pintxos reimagined with foraged mushrooms, every plate is designed for sharing and discovery. A rotating menu keeps pace with the markets, and diners can expect rare cuts, inventive crudos, and plant-based innovations. An exceptional boutique wine list curated by award-winning sommelier Joseph Mikulich complements the bold, earthy menu. The thoughtfully selected lineup features low-intervention wines from Spain, the U.S., and beyond—ranging from rare, highly sought-after bottles like Muga Aro (one of Rioja's finest) to locally harvested house wines such as Pursued by Bear. Mikulich's expertise brings depth and discovery to every pour, offering guests a distinctive and memorable wine experience. Just off the lobby, Drift café and bar brings the hotel's culinary ethos into an all-day social space. Mornings begin with craft coffee from Seattle's own FONTE and tea from Vancouver's TEALEAVES, accompanied by house-made pastries and light fare. As the day progresses, Drift shifts into a cozy cocktail lounge, where low-ABV drinks, seasonal small plates, and biodynamic wines are served beside a flickering fireplace and illuminated art wall. The mixology taps into ingredients sourced from the area—Rainier cherries, wild blackberries, locally distilled spirits—and leans into sustainability with a zero-waste philosophy. Spent citrus peels, herbs, and coffee grounds are transformed into house infusions and clever garnishes. On the second floor, six thoughtfully designed event spaces—each flooded with natural light and framed by city views—offer flexible layouts for everything from intimate board meetings to meaningful celebrations. The jewel of the hotel's events program is the Rainier Ballroom, which opens directly onto a landscaped terrace with panoramic views of the Space Needle. This biophilic gathering space is perfect for weddings, social celebrations, and sustainable corporate events, with expert planning services, seasonal catering menus, and furniture crafted from responsibly sourced wood.
