United Way of the CSRA hosts resource fair at the Augusta Public Library

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The United Way of the CSRA held a resource fair this morning aimed to get people connected to resources they may need. With just the three-digit number– '2-1-1', those in the CSRA have access to a wide range of resources if you're someone trying to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Helene, or just need some extra help. Stacy Pinkston visited the Augusta Public Library Tuesday morning – a place he says has been a resource to him for the last six years. 'It really helps younger people and older people with clothes, situations– housing situations, jobs and stuff like that.' It's where the United Way of the CSRA held its free resource fair, celebrating '2-1-1 Day.' 'Our 2-1-1 is our information referral services but we connect the community to essential resources such as Walton Options for independent living– that's for individuals who may have disabilities or needing assistance. We have Our Missions United; we have GAP Ministries as well. Just a wide variety of resources that help individuals with medical care costs, individuals who may have been incarcerated and needing assistance with housing. There is so much here, so much available that the community can really benefit from,' United Way of the CSRA Database Administrator Specialist, Candice Milbrook said. Resource vendors and local organizations say the results from helpline phone calls have been life changing. 'It chokes me up, you probably can see it, but I've had people cry on the phone. Literally, just to be connected to someone to listen– really it just comes down to that– and then putting the pieces together in the puzzle. What do you need for resources, how can we facilitate that,' Patient Navigator, Georgia DPH Lisa-Ann Wheeler said. Wheeler and visitors agree the benefits can truly make an impact. 'So, you call with a need, they match you and it's a beautiful thing– and it works– I get phone calls…' 'To help a lot of people, people that struggle they find different stuff, things they get for themselves to put in their households and stuff. Snacks, clothes– whatever they have at this place today will help them,' Pinkston said. If you were unable to make today's event, just call the 2-1-1 assistance line for further information, or visit here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
