Abhimanyu Easwaran's Curious Case: 15 Players Made India Debut Since His Maiden Call-up
Easwaran earned his maiden India Test call-up in December 2022, but he is still waiting for a chance to become an India Test cricketer.
29-year-old Abhimanyu Easwaran earned his maiden India Test call-up for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in December 2022 as Rohit Sharma's injury replacement. However, he didn't get a chance to play any match in that series, which the Indian team won with a scorelineof 2-0 under KL Rahul's leadership. Since Easwaran's maiden India Test call-up, a total of 15 players have played a Test match for India, with Anshul Kamboj being the latest one to join the list on Wednesday (July 23) in Manchester, but his wait is still on.
KS Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav made their Test debuts for India in the first match of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which was played at VCA Stadium in Nagpur (February 2023). Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan played their first Test against the West Indies in Roseau on July 12, 2023, and Mukesh Kumar became an Indian Test cricketer on July 20, 2023, in Port of Spain.
Karnataka-based fast bowler Prasidh Krishna played his first Test for India against South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion on December 26, 2023, and Rajat Patidar's maiden Test for India was against England in Visakhapatnam on February 2, 2024.
Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel made their Test debuts against England in Rajkot on February 15, 2024, and fast bowler Akash Deep became an Indian cricketer on February 23, 2024, in Ranchi against England. Left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal also played his first Test for India against England in Dharamsala on March 7, 2024.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana made their Test debuts against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22, 2024, and Sai Sudharsan's first Test for India was against England in Leeds on June 20, 2025.
Of the 15 players who have made their Test debut since Easwaran's maiden India Test call-up, only Jaiswal has managed to become a Test regular. The left-handed batter has featured in all 23 Tests India has played since his debut against the West Indies on July 12, 2023, in Roseau.
