KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The national sepak takraw squad has a bright future after performing excellently by winning two gold and two silver medals at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship which concluded yesterday. The country's two gold medals were came through the regu and quadrant events, while the silver medals were won in the doubles and team regu events. President of the Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM), Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, said that although the national team failed to end their 34-year drought in the team regu, he was still proud of Malaysia's achievements in the championship after successfully achieving the set target. bootstrap slideshow "Alhamdulillah, Malaysia's target of reaching the final in all four events contested in this championship has been achieved. KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia confirmed their slot in the semifinals of the men's team regu at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship after achieving their second straight victory in Group B by defeating Japan 3-0 at the Titiwangsa Stadium here today. The country's first regu comprising Amirul Zazwan Amir (feeder), Muhammad Syahir Rosdi (tekong), and Mohamad Azlan Alias (killer), contributed the first point after a 15-11, 15-7 win while the momentum was then continued by the second regu comprising Farhan Adam (feeder), Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam (tekong), and Muhammad Noraizat Nordin (killer), who won 15-8, 15-9. The third regu of the country, Aidil Aiman Azwawi (feeder), Muhammad Zulkifli Abd Razak (tekong), and Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali (killer), ensured a 3-0 victory for Malaysia after beating their opponents 15-8, 15-8 in straight sets.

The advance of the squad coached by Ahmad Mohd Zain will see Malaysia face Vietnam after the latter overcame Indonesia 2-1 in another quarterfinal match that also took place at the same venue. Earlier, Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam (tekong), Farhan Adam (feeder), and Mohamad Azlan Alias (killer) had no issues maintaining their winning momentum as Group A champions this morning to secure the first set 15-7.
