This year's festival campaign places a strong focus on Africa, aiming to provide energy access for one million people across the continent. It also supports quality education and football for 30,000 children worldwide in partnership with FIFA. Another major goal is to mobilise approximately R3.8 billion (USD 200 million) to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest. You can rewrite the sentences in active voice as follows: 'Attendees earn free tickets for the Global Citizen Festival by engaging in social action on the Global Citizen app or website. Tyla and Ayra Starr to headline a fest in New York

The 2025 Global Citizen Festival is set to return to New York City's Central Park on September 27. A pair of Africa's brightest will take centre stage with Nigeria's Ayra Starr and South Africa's Tyla to share top billing alongside an array of global heavy hitters. A few tried and tested acts when it comes to large arenas will be joining these African giants. Namely, The Weeknd, Shakira and Mariah the Scientist. 'I'm honoured to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September. Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can't wait to perform, unite, and inspire action,' said Colombian popstar Shakira. Tyla and Ayra will lend their celebrity and talents to this spectacle as ambassadors of the resurgence of African pride and preference as it pertains to the sonics of the continent. Australian native and a Hollywood favourite in Hugh Jackman who will handle the hosting duties for the eleventh time. The aim remains the same, with the idea being to cultivate unity and emphasise activism through music and the arts. Hosted for the eleventh time by Hugh Jackman who is best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men movie franchise. The long-standing Global Citizen Ambassador highlighted how this event has a mechanism attached to it in which fans can earn tickets. This can be done by showing an interest in pertinent global issues via the Global Citizen application. 'The growing impact of Global Citizen touches every corner of the world. I'm eager to advocate alongside ambassadors, performers, and world leaders,'' Jackman intimated. The 2025 agenda for this festival is looking to target three pressing outcomes. The overarching entity hopes to provide energy access for one million people in Africa. They're also looking to funnel $200 million (3.58 billion ZAR) to conserve and protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest. The idea is to protect 20 billion trees in this crucial area of the planet. Funding quality education for roughly 30 000 children worldwide will also be a matter of concern for Global Citizen. Festival organisers are going all out with their social investment initiatives, with 1.5 billion dollars (26 billion ZAR) being invested towards training 50 000 young Africans in renewable energy strategies. The European Commission and the governments of Denmark, Australia, and the UK have committed to infrastructure initiatives that could provide power to homes, schools, and hospitals for over a million people. Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), will also be involved in this event. The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is hoping to provide children with reading and writing tools. This will be funded through ticket sales from large global gatherings and tapping philanthropists for donations and the like. This is a lot on offer, especially for the African continent, and so naturally, we will be keeping a keen eye on all these initiatives and promises. These charitable draw cards will garner the attention of the masses along with the talent on offer, but will this translate to funding reaching the areas it is meant to, is the question on many people's minds. Stevie Wonder Says He'll Never Give Up Performing: ‘You Don't Have to Retire'

Stevie Wonder has confirmed that he's not going anywhere, with the veteran musician claiming he'll be performing and creating until his dying day. Wonder's comments came from a new interview with the BBC's Sidetracked podcast, where he entered into a discussion with host Annie Mac about the topic of retirement. More from Billboard Shakira & The Weeknd to Headline 2025 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park The Who Kick Off Farewell Tour in Italy, Perform First Show Since Zak Starkey Sacking Tool Announce First Hawaii Concert in Nearly 15 Years After turning the question back onto Mac after she inquired about his thoughts on the matter, Wonder explained that as long as he's physically able to, he'll keep creating in some capacity. 'For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there's more for you to do,' he explained. 'I love playing music, that's like my mantra. I think I can do all the stuff I want to do – still have fun and do what I need to do – but I'm not going to stop the gift that keeps pouring through my body.' 'I love doing what I'm doing,' he added. 'An artist doesn't stop drawing – you keep on. As long as you can imagine is as long as you are going to be creative, and as long as you let your mind work, you don't have to retire.' Close to the entirety of Wonder's life has been dedicated to creating music, with the 75-year-old having released his first single at the age of 11, and later scored his first Hot 100 chart-topper with 'Fingertips' at 13. Currently, it's been almost 20 years since Wonder released his last studio album, A Time to Love, though a number of singles have arrived in the years since – including 2024's 'Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart.' Since 2008, the musician has spoken about a new project titled Through the Eyes of Wonder, which has been described as a performance piece that will reflect his experience as a blind man. During his appearance on Sidetracked, Mac asked Wonder about his relationship with music, to which the veteran artist responded he's 'going to put music out' at some point, and is 'excited' about the long-discussed Through the Eyes of Wonder project. During his recent time in the U.K., Wonder also performed in Cardiff, Wales where he took the opportunity to share a poignant response to viral rumors that he is in fact able to see. 'You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that?' he asked the crowd. 'But seriously, you know the truth. 'Truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind,' Wonder explained. 'Now, that was a blessing because it's allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight. See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit?' Watch Stevie Wonder's appearance on Sidetracked below. Shakira, The Weeknd to headline free Global Citizen Festival concert in Central Park this fall

Shakira might still be on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, but that doesn't mean high-priced concert tickets are your only chance to see her performing live this summer. In fact, you can see her totally free on Saturday, September 27, when she and The Weeknd headline the 2025 Global Citizen Festival, once again held at Central Park's Great Lawn. An annual NYC event since 2012, Global Citizen Festival effectively turns the Great Lawn into a massive open-air concert as a reward for doing good in the community. The concert blends superstar performances (past headliners include Beyoncé, Lizzo, and Metallica) with calls for global change, from promoting climate action to ending extreme poverty. This year's event will be hosted for the 11th time by Hugh Jackman, a Global Citizen Ambassador. The concert will also see appearances from Tyla, Ayra Starr and Mariah the Scientist, with more performers to be announced in the coming weeks. "I'm honored to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September,' Shakira said in a statement. 'Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can't wait to perform, unite, and inspire action," Shakira said. Tickets are technically free; you don't have to pay for them, but you do have to earn them. Luckily, you'll simultaneously earn karma. Anyone interested in scoring tickets for the event can do so by downloading the Global Citizen app or going to its website and signing up to be a Global Citizen. Then you just have to participate in simple advocacy efforts like signing petitions, sharing awareness videos, or finding volunteer opportunities, each of which earns points that can be used to enter ticket lotteries for the festival. For 2025, the campaign is focused on three major global goals: providing energy access to 1 million people across Africa; mobilizing $200 million to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest; and giving 30,000 children around the world access to quality education, in partnership with FIFA. There's also a strong local focus this year. The initiative is working to support nonprofits throughout all five boroughs and aims to register 40,000 New Yorkers for volunteer opportunities, including youth mentorship, resume coaching and neighborhood revitalization projects.
