According to the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) Cooperative, Hawkers and Small Traders Development Division secretary Azizul Alias, the turnout is expected to match or exceed the overwhelming response recorded at the 2024 PMR 'Sayangi Sabah' edition held in Kota Kinabalu last October. 'With a wide variety of engaging and beneficial activities planned, we're confident residents of Tawau and surrounding areas will show up in force for this edition of PMR,' Azizul told Bernama. Among the programme's highlights are on-site government services, interactive sessions, and business showcases, including the popular Jualan MADANI initiative, which offers essential goods at discounted prices. A total of 36 booths from federal and state ministries and agencies will be present, alongside 204 public service touchpoints. Azizul added that the 2025 PMR Sabah will also feature local TikTok Shop entrepreneurs, particularly those operating from Tawau and nearby districts, through the special 'Yellow Bag' sales initiative. 'The event will also feature appearances by influencers and Sabah-born singer Bella Astillah, as well as the Tawau Mega Concert on Saturday night, involving top Malaysian artists including Datuk Awie, Stacy, Akim, and Felix Agus,' he said. The programme will also showcase the products by local entrepreneurs under the One District One Industry (SDSI) Borneo Region segment, featuring 178 Sabah-based businesses across various sectors. 'These include food and beverages, handicrafts, homestay services, and health products,' Azizul said. With the theme 'Ending Poverty Through Entrepreneurship', the 2025 PMR Sabah is part of a nationwide government initiative spearheaded by the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU) in collaboration with KUSKOP as the lead ministry, and the Sabah Government as host, to bring essential government services directly to the people. – Bernama

MADANI Rakyat aims to eradicate poverty through entrepreneurship - Ewon

Ewon during the interview with Sabah FM radio station on Saturday.-Bernama photo KOTA KINABALU (May 3): Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the 2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR 2025) in Sabah allows people in the state to access various opportunities and assistance to lift them out of poverty. He urged Sabahans to seize these opportunities and assistance, including entrepreneurship, cooperatives, and employment options. He said the Sabah PMR 2025 theme, 'Menoktahkan Kemiskinan Melalui Keusahawanan' (Eliminating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship), reflects the government's commitment to addressing poverty sustainably by empowering the people through entrepreneurial initiatives—creating income opportunities, employment, and social mobility, particularly for rural and B40 communities. 'The public can access various opportunities and services suited to their needs by attending this PMR event. Entrepreneurs can obtain assistance, grants, and financing to grow their businesses. 'Have faith that we can put an end to the poverty that has been plaguing us in Sabah …by making the most of attending the event and getting what we need to overcome poverty and help boost our economic activity,' he said in an interview with Sabah FM radio station here on Saturday. Sabah PMR 2025 will occur over three days, starting May 9 at the Tawau Municipal Council Square. The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry leads the initiative, collaborating with the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU) and the Sabah government. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate at the closing ceremony at 2 pm on May 11, where top federal and state leaders are scheduled to attend. Ewon said that in addition to 36 exhibition booths by ministries and agencies, several satellite programmes would be held, including a gotong-royong (community clean-up) initiative in Kampung Mentadak Baru, Pulau Sebatik, Tawau on May 7, and the ministry's Halal Success Programme at Tawau Community College on May 8 and 9. He said the Bicara Ilmu programme, in conjunction with the Turun Padang Ke Arah Memperkasakan Koperasi 2025 initiative, will take place on May 8 to discuss 'Menoktahkan Kemiskinan Melalui Model Perniagaan Koperasi' (Ending Poverty Through the Cooperative Business Model) 'A gotong-royong will be held at PPR Batu 8, Tawau, on May 11, involving the repair of the futsal court and the installation of solar panels by the Tawau Contractors Association in the housing area that accommodates 900 residential units with nearly 4,500 residents,' he said. Ewon said the event will also feature the Satu Daerah Satu Industri (SDSI) showcase. SDSI is a strategic initiative for local economic development, focusing on empowering each district's unique product since 2019. He said that, under the SDSI initiative, within six months, the Kudat district successfully increased its annual sales average in the traditional weaving industry by 28.7 per cent, from RM45,000 to RM57,915. He said the SDSI initiative has also developed the stingless bee honey industry in Ranau, with an increase in the average annual sales by 25.2 per cent, from RM38,500 to RM48,202. According to Ewon, the Sabah PMR 2025 will also feature the MADANI Sales Programme, offering over 200 daily necessities at lower prices, with discounts of up to 30 per cent, including fresh chicken, eggs, rice, and cooking oil. 'This programme is also joined by 120 SDSI entrepreneurs, 24 food and beverage vendors under the Selera Di Bawah Bayu segment, and nine food truck entrepreneurs. 'Meanwhile, the pocket talk sessions at PMR 2025 Sabah will highlight various engaging topics related to entrepreneurship, cooperatives, and economic development, presented by industry experts and renowned speakers,' Ewon added.-Bernama

2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme To Kick Off In Tawau From May 9 To 11

GENERAL KOTA KINABALU, April 30 (Bernama) -- The 2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) will kick off this year with its first location at Dataran Majlis Perbandaran Tawau, from May 9 to 11, offering a variety of programmes offering a variety of activities and services aimed at benefiting residents, particularly those on the east coast of Sabah. Director of the Strategic Programmes at the Performance Acceleration and Improvement Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Mohd Zainuddin Mohd Noor said the decision to hold the event in Tawau was to enable more east coast residents to participate, compared to last year's PMR, which took place in Likas on the west coast. 'Tawau was chosen so that our outreach programme can better reach the local community. We are bringing services, community support initiatives, and government-led programmes to the area. The public is encouraged to attend and take advantage of the various services provided,' he said in an interview on Selamat Pagi Malaysia aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) today. The 2025 Sabah PMR, themed '`Eliminating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship', is organised with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) as the lead ministry, in collaboration with the Sabah government. Tawau is about 450 kilometres east of Kota Kinabalu. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to close the event at 2 pm on May 11. Mohd Zainuddin said the Sabah PMR 2025 would feature a variety of activities, including a showcase of seven key areas under Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as legal assistance services where residents can seek advice on legal matters. He said 600 job vacancies would be offered by participating employers through open interviews during the programme. In the PMR last year, 1,500 job seekers were offered jobs after the interviews, he added. The National Registration Department (NRD), he said, will also be providing mobile services, offering advice on citizenship issues in Sabah, as well as handling the registration and replacement of identity cards and birth certificates.
