The 2025 NHL Entry Draft starts Friday in Los Angeles with a new look more reminiscent of the other major North American professional sports leagues. Teams and top prospects will be in separate locations for the first time, with the most prized draft picks in attendance to hear their names called at L.A. Live's Peacock Theatre for the draft telecast and front office executives from the league's 32 teams dispersed around the country at their home bases.
The New York Islanders won the 2025 NHL Draft lottery and defenseman Matthew Schaeffer, who played for Erie (Pennsylvania) of the Ontario Hockey League this past season, is considered the No. 1 North American hockey prospect by the NHL's Central Scouting Service. The San Jose Sharks have the No. 2 pick one year after selecting center Macklin Celebrini No. 1 in the 2024 draft.

When is the 2025 NHL Draft?
The 2025 NHL Draft begins Friday, June 27 at L.A. Live's Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles with the first round starting at 7 p.m. ET. The second round will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 28, with the the third through seventh rounds to follow on the second day of the draft.
What channel is the NHL draft tonight?
The 2025 NHL Draft will be broadcast nationally by ESPN and the NHL Network. ESPN will carry the first round on Friday, while the second through seventh rounds on Saturday will be televised by NHL Network. Both days of the draft and all seven rounds will be available to live stream via ESPN+ and Fubo.
