PKR polls: Nik Nazmi files protest over Setiawangsa division election results

HULU SELANGOR: PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed he had sent a protest letter to the party's Central Election Committee regarding several issues related to the Setiawangsa division head election results. "I have sent a protest letter (to the committee) and we will wait for the response. "There is also a Central Leadership Council (CEC) meeting today, so we will just wait for the decision they will announce," he said. Nik Nazmi, who is also Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister, said this when met by reporters after officiating the World Tapir Day 2025 celebration at the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sungai Dusun, Kuala Kubu Baharu, here today. In the April 19 election, the Setiawangsa member of parliament failed to defend the Setiawangsa division head position after losing to actor and film director Datuk Afdlin Shauki, by securing 563 votes while Afdlin obtained 631 votes. Yesterday, the committee's chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the status of the protests involving the election of several PKR divisions in the 2025 PKR Election would be announced next week. Nik Nazmi had previously said that the losses at the branch level would not deter his spirit in his bid to defend his vice-president post. He is among eight candidates contesting for the vice-president post. Apart from Nik Nazmi, others who have announced their intention to defend the post include Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Nurul Izzah Anwar. Also in the race for the post are Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and PKR deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan. Earlier today, Bayan Baru member of parliament Sim Tze Tzin announced his bid for the vice-president post. In a posting on Facebook, he said he decided to contest the post after 26 years in the party, to help PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim eradicate poverty and elevate Malaysia to a high-income nation by 2030. — BERNAMA
