PKR polls: Nik Nazmi files protest over Setiawangsa division election results

HULU SELANGOR: PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed he had sent a protest letter to the party's Central Election Committee regarding several issues related to the Setiawangsa division head election results.
"I have sent a protest letter (to the committee) and we will wait for the response.
"There is also a Central Leadership Council (CEC) meeting today, so we will just wait for the decision they will announce," he said.
Nik Nazmi, who is also Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister, said this when met by reporters after officiating the World Tapir Day 2025 celebration at the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sungai Dusun, Kuala Kubu Baharu, here today.
In the April 19 election, the Setiawangsa member of parliament failed to defend the Setiawangsa division head position after losing to actor and film director Datuk Afdlin Shauki, by securing 563 votes while Afdlin obtained 631 votes.
Yesterday, the committee's chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the status of the protests involving the election of several PKR divisions in the 2025 PKR Election would be announced next week.
Nik Nazmi had previously said that the losses at the branch level would not deter his spirit in his bid to defend his vice-president post.
He is among eight candidates contesting for the vice-president post. Apart from Nik Nazmi, others who have announced their intention to defend the post include Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Also in the race for the post are Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and PKR deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan.
Earlier today, Bayan Baru member of parliament Sim Tze Tzin announced his bid for the vice-president post.
In a posting on Facebook, he said he decided to contest the post after 26 years in the party, to help PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim eradicate poverty and elevate Malaysia to a high-income nation by 2030. — BERNAMA

I wish Rafizi all the best, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today praised Rafizi Ramli for his strong performance as economy minister. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today thanked Rafizi Ramli for his contributions as economy minister following the Pandan MP's resignation from the Cabinet. Speaking to reporters at the Energy Asia 2025 conference, Anwar confirmed that the economy ministry would remain intact. 'I wish Rafizi all the best – he served exceptionally well in his role,' he said. 'I will determine, in due time, which minister or ministry will take over these responsibilities.' Rafizi and natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad submitted their resignation letters on May 28. Nik Nazmi, a two-term MP, failed to retain his PKR vice-president post while Rafizi lost the party's deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah Anwar. Anwar is the PKR president. Anwar previously said he had received the duo's leave applications and resignation letters, but had only approved their applications to go on leave. Rafizi is on leave until today while Nik Nazmi's leave ends on July 3. In a post on X last Friday, Rafizi reflected on his last day at the ministry, thanking his team of policy officers for their efforts in implementing economic initiatives. The New Straits Times meanwhile reported that Nik Nazmi had declined to comment on whether he was reconsidering his resignation.

Excessive backlash prompts PMX to disable comment section of some FB, Instagram posts

NEVER before had Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim been so badly trolled particularly on social media platforms till it warrants his social media administrators to disable comments, particularly those related to his presence at the recent 18th PKR national congress. Such was the sentiment aired by a few supposedly disgruntled PKR supporters or more specifically the faction of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli who was ousted in the party's deputy presidency race by PMX's daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar. 'PMX turn off the comment section on his Facebook posts regarding the PKR Congress (he is most popular at FB with 2.7M+ followers),' fumed hafizubai🇵🇸 (@hafizubai1) on X. 'Our PM is refusing to hear people's voice. Correct me if I'm wrong but did Najib ever do that? Heck even Muhyiddin or Ismail Sabri ever did (that)? Shameful!' Another furious PKR backer Zaz (@ThIsIs_Zharif) wondered what has PKR become till PMX has to shut down his FB comment section. 'Afraid of the rakyat? Is this how you manage the pulse of the rakyat? A clown party!' Anwar Ibrahim pun mula tutup komen di Facebook? 😂😂 Keadilan ni dah jadi apa? Takut dengan Rakyat? Macam ni cara kamu uruskan denyut nadi rakyat? Parti badut! — Zaz (@ThIsIs_Zharif) May 24, 2025 The social media-savvy netizen went on further to reveal that the comment section of six FB posts had bed been turned off while querying if 'this us the way the Bapa Reformasi evade the people's anger'? In an update, Zaz observed that the comment section on PMX's FB section was disabled from '7.17am to 7.20am' yesterday (May 25) with a check by FocusM revealed that commenting is limited to 'only people who have followed this page for more than 24 hours'. Apart from FB, a few netizens also reported that the comment section on PMX's Instagram in which he boasts 1.2M followers has also been disabled/limited. At the end of the day, one PMX fan who has been looking up to him as an idol since young expressed sympathy to the former while stating that 'such is the price that he must pay for supporting the foolish Damai (Nurul Izzah's) team'. 'For the first time, PMX has to close the comment section because 95% of the comments criticised him,' he penned on X. Aku simpati pd PMX antara idola aku yg aku sokong dari muda. Itulah harga yg perlu dibayar kerana team Damai yg bahalol. Buat kali pertamanya PMX terpaksa tutup ruang komen krn 95% komen hentam beliau. Kamu mengajar kami 'lawan tetap lawan' dn kami sambut 'lawan tetap lawan' — Ezzad_AR (@EzzadAR) May 25, 2025 'You taught us lawan tetap lawan (fight on, keep fighting) and we respond with lawan tetap lawan.' – May 26, 2025

[UPDATED] PM yet to accept Nik Nazmi's resignation, giving him time

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there was no need to rush a decision on Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad's resignation from the cabinet, as he was still on leave. "Nik Nazmi's status has not yet been decided," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Energy Asia forum in Kuala Lumpur. "I always give (people) a chance to reflect, and then I'll give my views," Anwar said, adding that if Nik Nazmi wanted to continue serving, he could do so. "But he is still on leave, so let's give him space." Nik Nazmi, the Setiawangsa member of parliament, previously resigned from the cabinet after failing to retain his PKR vice-presidency. He was the only incumbent vice-president who did not retain his post. Subsequently, Nik Nazmi denied rumours that he and other MPs who lost in the PKR elections would withdraw support for Anwar. Nik Nazmi is on leave until July 3, and his resignation takes effect on July 4.
