Chery Tiggo fends off late Cignal rally to clinch PVL On Tour finals berth
Chery Tiggo held off a late rampage from Cignal to complete a 25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23 win during their semifinals bout in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The win allowed the Crossovers to return to the finals round for the first time since 2021, when they ruled the Open Conference to emerge as the first-ever titleholder since the league turned professional. ?Chery Tiggo now awaits the winner between Creamline and PLDT. Cess Robles and Ara Galang were at the forefront of offense for the Norman Miguel-helmed crew with both players posting 15 points with the former NU standout grabbing 11 digs and 11 receptions for a triple-double outing. Imee Hernandez chipped in 12 points highlighted by four blocks while rookie Renee Peñafiel chipped in 10 markers to help Chery Tiggo return to a finals stage for the first time after four years. But the Crossovers faced a few bumps along the way. Already enjoying a 16-10 lead in Set 4, Chery Tiggo had to weather a desperate rally from the HD Spikers, who leaned on Heather Guino-o and rookie Jessa Ordiales to unleash a 5-1 run. But Chery Tiggo responded with a 5-1 run of its own capped by an attack error from Guino-o to create a 22-16 separation. Guino-o then atoned for that mishap, hammering one from the left wing before serving an ace to help Erika Santos lead a 4-1 response as they pulled within one point, 22-23. Hernandez, though, completed a quick kill before Santos retaliated with another solid kill from the opposite side for a 23-24 deficit. But Galang finished what she started, swinging from the right side to seal the deal. "Nakaka-proud 'yung buong team, 'yung players namin, 'yung mga kasama ko sa coaching staff, tapos 'yung mga PT. Creamline, Chery Tiggo sweep Farm Fresh, Nxled to complete PVL On Tour semis cast
Creamline and Chery Tiggo made quick work of Farm Fresh and Nxled in their respective quarterfinals duels to complete the semifinals cast of 2025 PVL On Tour on Saturday at the Philsports Arena. Creamline had to weather a late surge from Farm Fresh before pulling off a 25-19, 25-19, 26-24 victory while Chery Tiggo eked out a dominant 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 decision over the Chameleons. The Cool Smashers started out hot in Set 3 after racing to a 9-3 lead with veteran opposite hitter Michele Gumabao unleashing a flurry of attacks before a Jema Galanza service ace put the multi-titled team in an 18-11 lead. But the Foxies proved they have a fight in them with middle blocker Rizza Cruz unloading back-to-back running kills that capped their 7-2 rampage and pulled them within two, 20-18. An infraction at the service line from Caitlyn Viray saw Creamline clinch the match point at 24-21, but Farm Fresh refused to quit and responded with three straight points led by Trisha Tubu's block on Alyssa Valdez and own attack as they forced a deadlock. Gumabao, though, answered with a familiar attack from the right side before Jeanette Panaga finished it off with an ace as Creamline cruised to the next round despite a shaky start in the tournament. Gumabao top-scored with 15 points while Valdez churned out 12 markers and nine receptions. Galanza chipped in 10 points and six digs in another display of force by Creamline. Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo displayed a collective effort in dispatching a promising crew of Nxled. Cess Robles fronted the offense with 12 points laced with four receptions, but she got ample help from the rest of her teammates with veteran Ara Galang and rookie Renee Peñaflor each posting 11 markers. The Cool Smashers are now pitted against the unbeaten PLDT High Speed Hitters while the Crossovers will take on top-seeded Cignal in the semis round that starts on Tuesday. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

ZUS Coffee stuns Choco Mucho in thriller to book last PVL On Tour QF slot

(Photo: PVL) ZUS Coffee shook off a slow start and held off Choco Mucho to eke out a 22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 15-10 win in the knockout round of the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena. The Thunderbelles turned to Chinnie Arroyo the entire game and veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga in the clutch as they clinched the last quarterfinals ticket, setting up a playoffs duel with PLDT. Arroyo tallied a team-high 21 points while also getting ample help as Gonzaga chipped in 16 markers. AC Miner chimed in with 14 points as Kate Santiago and Fiola Ceballos each chipped in 10 markers. Down two sets and on the brink of elimination, ZUS Coffee dug deep in Set 3 with Santiago and Ceballos providing some energy as the latter sent them to a 16-10 cushion. Arroyo and rookie middle blocker Miner put together the next points to extend their life to a fourth set. Choco Mucho kept it close in the fourth with Isa Molde even tying it at 11-all off a swipe attack, but Arroyo and a number of attack errors from the side of the Flying Titans eventually allowed ZUS to force a fifth set. The Thunderbelles left no room for errors in the deciding frame as they opened the period with a pivotal 4-1 start following a denial by Gonzaga on Molde. Another block, this time from Maika Ortiz, and a Gonzaga opposite kill sent the wards of head coach Jerry Yee to a huge 11-6 cushion. Ceballos then unleashed back-to-back points following a hammer from the left side and a rejection against Jen Villegas' running attempt, bringing her side to a 13-7 lead. Choco Mucho could not shatter the wall of ZUS as Miner put the roof on Molde to clinch the match point before Gonzaga unloaded a down-the-line hit that sealed it for the youthful club. Chery Tiggo fended off a third set comeback attempt from Galeries to complete a 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 win in their knockout duel in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Saturday at the Dasmariñas Arena in Cavite. The Crossovers advanced to the quarterfinals where they will lock horns with Nxled in another knockout duel. Chery Tiggo wiped out a 15-17 deficit in Set 3 after Jewel Encarnacion misfired on an attack from the left wing, allowing the Crossovers to level the score at 17-all. Ara Galang then denied Encarnacion from the same side before Shaya Adorador came up clutch with a kill of her own as both spikers fueled a 5-1 rampage that totally swung the momentum in their favor, 22-18. Ces Robles punctuated the straight-sets romp by forcing a check ball on her attack for match point, before sealing the deal with a clean kill from the same spot off a perfect set from Jasmine Nabor. "Actually, hindi madali 'yung pinanggalingan nu'ng game na 'to [kasi we're] coming off two losses doon sa Creamline tapos mas frustrating 'yung talo namin sa ZUS," Chery Tiggo head coach Norman Miguel said. "Physically, mahirap kasi kulang sa preparation at conditioning. Emotionally at mentally alam mong affected pa sila. Farm Fresh averts collapse vs. Capital1, books PVL on Tour QF slot
Farm Fresh avoided a huge meltdown in Set 3 to complete a sweep of Capital1, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21, in the knockout phase of the 2025 PVL On Tour on Saturday at the Dasmariñas Arena in Cavite. The Foxies almost wasted an early lead in the third frame, but capitalized on the error-plague Solar Spikers to seal their place in the quarterfinals. Farm Fresh, however, is pitted against powerhouse Creamline in the next round. Lefty opposite hitter Trisha Tubu led the show with 15 points anchored on nine attacks, four blocks, and two aces while Caitlin Viray and Lorene Toring each chipped in 11 markers with the former grabbing nine receptions. "Thankfully, nakaabot kami ng quarterfinals ngayon and more work pa," Tubu said. "Dito namin nakikita 'yung weakness ng bawat isa, 'yung strength ng team so ngayon trust 'yung nangingibabaw sa amin kahit gaano kahirap 'yung nangyayari sa loob. Alam namin na kahit sino pwedeng asahan." Farm Fresh built a 16-10 spread in the crucial Set 3, but Capital1 refused to go home without putting up a fight as they slowly regained the momentum thanks to a 10-4 rampage that forced a 20-all deadlock. However, the Foxies stayed composed and took advantage of back-to-back attack errors from Syd Niegos as Jolina Dela Cruz unleashed a kill from the left wing to fuel a 3-0 blast that made it a 23-20 lead for the Foxies. Toring clinched the match point following an ace before Dela Cruz provided the finishing kick off another hammer from the open. Dela Cruz finished with 10 points and six digs while middle blocker Rizza Cruz chimed in with nine markers highlighted by three blocks. "Hindi kami nade-define ng results so hindi namin kailangan maging distracted about do'n and ayon, every game kailangan namin isipin na for progress namin 'yung mga games na 'to," Cruz said.
