The recognition marks a transformative step for both the company and the region, as it paves the way for sustainable, transparent, and low-carbon steel production in line with global standards, according to a statement from the firm. The ResponsibleSteel certification was awarded after an extensive audit conducted by CARES, an internationally recognised certification body. The rigorous assessment evaluated Emirates Steel Industries, part of EMSTEEL Group's performance, against a set of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. This certification reflects the standards of ethical business conduct and environmental responsibility. This achievement is further solidified by another recognition – EMSTEEL was recently named a 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), becoming the sole company in the MENA region to earn this for the second consecutive year. Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group Chief Executive Officer, EMSTEEL said, 'Achieving the ResponsibleSteel certification is a proud milestone for us and is a testament to our relentless commitment to sustainability, innovation and responsible growth. 9 Apr 2025 11:57 ABU DHABI (WAM) EMSTEEL has announced its recognition as a 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), cementing the Group's position as the sole receiver of the prestigious accolade in the Middle East and North African region for the second consecutive recognition was presented during the worldsteel Special General Meeting held in Sydney, Australia. Now in its eighth year, the Steel Sustainability Champion accolade—part of The Steelie Awards—honours companies demonstrating exceptional commitment to sustainable development in the global steel Group was recognised for its significant efforts to enhance sustainability practices throughout company has made substantial progress, reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity by 23 percent. As of 2023, EMSTEEL's total Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions stood at 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂, marking a significant step forward in its journey toward Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, said, 'Being named a worldsteel Sustainability Champion is a true honour and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of everyone at EMSTEEL. It reinforces our commitment to driving the transition towards a low-carbon future, not just for the steel industry, but for the entire global industrial landscape.' He added, 'As the first steelmaker in the world to capture part of its CO₂ emissions, we have been able to operate with 45 percent less carbon intensity than the global average and are excited to continue playing a cataclysmic role in decarbonising this hard-to-abate sector and the downstream supply chain.'
