ANI IndiGo, India's largest airline by market share, will start daily direct flights to London Heathrow from October 26 2025, using leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The announcement comes as the airline marks 19 years of operations and outlines its broader global expansion strategy, including new international routes, fleet additions, and increased investment in maintenance infrastructure. The announcement follows IndiGo's move to induct five additional Dreamliner aircraft within the current financial year. The aircraft will support the airline's growing long-haul network, including new international routes. IndiGo will also introduce its business-class product, IndiGoStretch, on more international routes. Starting August 9 2025, the airline will operate two-class A321 aircraft between Singapore and Delhi and Mumbai. IndiGoStretch will be extended to Delhi-Dubai routes on 30 August 2025 and to Mumbai-Dubai routes from 03 September 2025. The airline was recently named the 'Best Airline in India and South Asia' and the 'Cleanest Airline in India and South Asia' by Skytrax at the 2025 World Airline Awards. 'As we celebrate IndiGo's 19th anniversary, we are immensely proud of the journey we have had so far and equally excited about the way ahead. The love and support of millions of our customers, coupled with the shared passion and drive of more than 66,000 IndiGo employees, has fueled our flight towards new heights and across new frontiers. Today, we are delighted to announce our next strides in international markets, especially our daily, direct flights to London Heathrow. Looking ahead, we are hopeful to continue winning hearts and accolades in India as well as globally, as we expand our operations across the globe, one airport at a time,' said Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo. The airline has built a fleet of over 430 aircraft and a network that connects more than 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. It recently began direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam. IndiGo also signed a memorandum of understanding with Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic to enhance connectivity between India, Europe, and North America. IndiGo has expanded its codeshare network to include Jetstar, providing access to 14 destinations in Australia and New Zealand, and deepened cooperation with KLM and Japan Airlines to provide reciprocal benefits for flyers. The carrier converted purchase rights for 30 Airbus A350 aircraft into a firm order, taking its total wide-body order book to 60. The airline plans to start operations to Copenhagen, Athens, and Siem Reap, and add four Central Asian destinations by FY26. In the domestic market, IndiGo added Adampur (Punjab) and Hindon (Uttar Pradesh) to its network and plans to operate from Navi Mumbai International Airport with 18 daily flights once it opens. An MOU has been signed with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. to set up MRO infrastructure in Bengaluru. IndiGo's fleet has an average age of 4.9 years and has been recognized as the 'World's Youngest Aircraft Fleet' in the 100+ aircraft category by ch-aviation. It continues to lead on-time performance, as per DGCA data. Looking ahead, IndiGo aims to increase its international capacity share from 28 per cent to 40 per cent by FY30. The airline expects to receive long-range A321 XLRs this fiscal year and A350-900s by 2027. It also plans to expand its presence in the MRO segment in response to growing infrastructure developments. 'We will continue to add more destinations internationally, especially with XLRs coming in along with our newly leased wide body aircraft for long haul operations. From 28 per cent current international capacity share, we are aiming for 40 per cent by FY 2030,' Elbers said in the company's FY25 annual report. IndiGo stated that it remains optimistic despite external challenges such as aircraft groundings and fuel price fluctuations. The airline will continue to manage such risks through fleet diversification, leasing strategies, and strategic OEM agreements. FlySafair, a South African airline has once again been named the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa. Business Insider Africa presents the best low-cost airlines in Africa in 2025. The list is courtesy of Skytrax. Leading the low-cost segment is FlySafair, a South African airline that has once again been named the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa. For many Africans, air travel has long felt out of reach, seen as something reserved for business executives or international travelers, not everyday people. High fares, taxes, and limited routes have made flying within the continent more of a luxury than a convenience. But there are low-cost airlines offering cheaper flights and making it easier for more people to travel across borders. Some of these budget carriers gained international recognition at the 2025 World Airline Awards, where they were honored for their service, affordability, and impact on regional connectivity. Dubbed the 'Oscars of the Aviation Industry,' the awards are based on a comprehensive passenger survey that collected responses from travelers of over 100 nationalities between September 2024 and May 2025. The results not only reaffirmed the continent's top full-service airlines, like Ethiopian Airlines, which retained its title as Best Airline in Africa for the seventh consecutive year but also highlighted the growing strength of Africa's budget carriers. Leading the low-cost segment is FlySafair, a South African airline that has once again been named the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa. FlySafair has consistently impressed passengers with its punctuality, efficient check-in systems, and no-frills model that allows travellers to customize their journey by paying only for what they need. Other budget carriers such as Lift and Fastjet are also making waves. Fastjet, which operates primarily in Zimbabwe and Zambia, has carved out a niche in Southern Africa with reliable regional services.
