‘Coach Choi' Returns As Perak FA Head Coach For A1 League, 2026 SUKMA
IPOH, July 26 (Bernama) - The Perak Football Association (PAFA) has appointed Syamsul Saad as the new head coach of Perak FA for the upcoming 2025/2026 A1 Semi-Pro League season and the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor. PAFA president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin said the decision was based on Syamsul's extensive experience in football development at the state level, as well as his background as both a player and a coach. 'Syamsul is no stranger to Perak football. He has represented the state and previously contributed his expertise as a coach.

Seven Labuan Silat Exponents Selected For SUKMA 2026
LABUAN, July 7 (Bernama) -- Seven silat athletes from Labuan have been selected to represent the Federal Territories in the upcoming 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2026), following their outstanding performance at the recent Three-Corner Silat Championship SUKMA Selection for the Federal Territories. The championship held on July 4 and 5 at the Financial Park Convention Hall here, saw top silat exponents from the three federal territories - Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, competing for national-level selection. National Silat Association (Pesaka) Labuan chapter president Mohd Khairul Abdul Ghani, said Labuan's athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and determination throughout the event.

Selangor at 50% readiness for SUKMA 2026 games prep
SELANGOR has completed 50 percent of its preparations for hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), focusing on upgrading sports facilities across the state. State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi confirmed the progress, with a target completion date set for March 2026. Key venues undergoing refurbishment include the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam, Subang Shooting Range, and Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang. The total estimated cost for hosting SUKMA 2026 is RM200 million. Mohd Najwan emphasised the urgency of completing repairs to ensure all facilities meet safety and operational standards. 'Efforts are being doubled to speed up the process so contingents have top-tier venues for the games,' he said during an event at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque. Earlier, he distributed 'muassasah' incentives to 127 Haj applicants and RM60,000 in community funds to NGOs and resident associations in Kota Anggerik. - Bernama

Perak gov't welcomes PAFA's move to sign import players
IPOH: The Perak government welcomes the Perak Football Association's (PAFA) move to sign new import players for the Perak FA football team, said State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah, He said PAFA's decision to bring in foreign players is aimed at strengthening the team in preparation for the 2025-2026 A1 Semi-Pro League season. 'PAFA are currently identifying several foreign players who suit the playing system and salary offers, and of course, PAFA will select the best players to strengthen the team. 'PAFA also have the ambition and vision for Perak FA to succeed in the A1 League and eventually return to the Super League,' he told reporters here yesterday. Prior to this, PAFA president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin had said that 24 players have received offer letters to join the Perak FA team for the 2025-2026 A1 Semi-Pro League and the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor. He said the association is in the process of scouting for import players and has until August to complete the 30-player squad.

Sukma 2026: Johor begins early preparations with sights set on top-three finish
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor is targeting a top-three placing in the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, said Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. 'I have asked all state sports associations to make early preparations, as instructed by the state government. We need be set an example for other states in terms of the development of athletes and sports hubs. 'I have set the target, which is the top three... but if we end up as overall champions, that will be a bonus,' he told reporters at the Larkin state constituency 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programmehere today. He said this when asked to comment on Johor's preparations for Selangor SUKMA, which is expected to be held in August 2026. Johor has won the overall title at SUKMA once in the Games' 36-year history when it bagged 77 gold medals in the 2022 edition in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Mohd Hairi said various international-class sports events are set to be held in the state, including the Sultan of Johor Cup hockey tournament. He reiterated Johor's commitment to become a Sports Nation by 2030, in line with the decree of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim during the opening of the State Assembly session recently. 'Tunku Mahkota Ismail decreed that Johor should be a Sports Nation by 2030, it is quite a huge task for me and my team to place Johor, and Malaysia in general, on the world stage. 'Johor must become a state that provides the best in terms of facilities, infrastructure, athlete development and academics, thus attracting investors,' he said. Earlier, during the 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programme, a total of 32 cows donated by various parties, including from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, were slaughtered and the meat was distributed to more than 500 residents of the Larkin state constituency, especially to the asnaf group and those in need.
