Madonna Teams With Shawn Levy For Limited Series About Her Life In Works At Netflix
EXCLUSIVE: Global music superstar Madonna has partnered with global streamer Netflix to tell her story. A limited series about her life and music is in early development at Netflix, with Madonna and Shawn Levy, whose 21 Laps has an exclusive TV overall deal at the platform, executive producing, Deadline has learned. A rep for Netflix declined comment. The duo, who had been discussing the project for awhile, are starting from scratch: the biographical limited series is not related to the Madonna feature biopic which was previously in development at Universal with three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner as the choice to play the Queen of Pop. More from Deadline 'Lupin 4' Confirmed By Netflix As Shoot With Omar Sy Begins In Paris Media & Tech Stocks Pop As China Tariff Tensions Thaw Netflix UK Boss Anne Mensah Rules Herself Out Of BBC Content Chief Race It is early days of development on the TV series, so it is unclear yet which period in Madonna's decades-spanning career it will focus on. Still, Garner has remained engaged — she famously appeared alongside Madonna on stage at the singer's Celebration Tour in December 2023 — and I hear the Ozark star would most likely play Madonna, subject of availability as she doesn't have a deal. (Garner would also feel right at home at Netflix where she just signed on her for her third series, an FTX limited series, following her turns on Inventing Anna and Ozark.) It is also too early to tell whether Madonna would be involved in the writing; she co-wrote the proposed feature. Teaming with Netflix and one of the streamer's most prolific TV producers, Levy, who is behind such Netflix shows as mega hit Stranger Things and limited series The Perfect Couple and All the Light We Cannot See, represents a major step in bringing Madonna's story to the screen, something she has been passionate about for years. 'I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,' she said at the time of the Universal feature announcement in 2020. Madonna had remained committed to the idea and last November hinted on Instagram that she may be pivoting from a feature biopic to a TV series about her life. Since she dropped out of college and got on a plane for the first time in her life to pursue a career in music and dance in New York with $35 in her pocket, Michigan native Madonna has defied expectations at every turn. Certified the best-selling female music artist in history, Madonna has sold 400 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Her impact on society and pop culture have gone beyond her influence in the music industry as a revolutionary pop star who challenged sexism to redefine what it means to be a powerful woman in the field. Fearless and provocative, the 'Like a Virgin' singer has been outspoken on women's rights and sexuality, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms, and a strong advocate of the LGBTQ community. Madonna is repped by CAA, Maverick Management, Untitled Entertainment and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. Madonna Teams Up with Shawn Levy and Netflix for Limited Series About Her Life — GeekTyrant
Madnonna is joining forces with Stranger Things and Deadpool Vs. Wolverine producer and director Shawn Levy and Netflix for a limited series based on her life and career. The project is still in early development, but sources confirm it's moving forward with Madonna and Levy onboard as executive producers under Levy's 21 Laps banner. This new series marks a fresh start. It's not connected to the long-gestating Madonna biopic at Universal Pictures, the one that had Julia Garner ( Ozark , Inventing Anna ) playing the pop legend. That feature was ultimately shelved, but Garner has stayed close to the material—most recently appearing on stage with Madonna during her Celebration Tour in December 2023. While there's no official casting yet, word is Garner remains the likely frontrunner for the series, pending availability. For now, there's no word on which era of Madonna's career the show will explore. And while Madonna co-wrote the script for the abandoned film, it's unclear whether she'll have a hand in the writing for this new TV adaptation. Still, her voice will be part of the creative process, which has been key to her from the start. She previously said: 'I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world.' That desire hasn't faded. Last fall, Madonna teased on Instagram that she might be shifting focus to a series format, and here we are. Madonna initially arrived in New York with just $35 and a dream, and became the best-selling female music artist of all time. She redefined what power looks like in pop music, challenged the industry's treatment of women, all while delivering some of the most iconic songs and performances in modern music history. Levy is one of Netflix's most trusted producers, with Stranger Things , All the Light We Cannot See , and The Perfect Couple under his belt. Pairing his filmmaking chops with Madonna's singular story feels like a promising match. No release window has been announced yet, and Netflix is keeping things close to the vest for now. Deadpool & Wolverine Director Working On Live-Action D&D Netflix Show
A new report claims that Netflix's next big fantasy TV show bet is a Dungeons & Dragons live-action series produced by Shawn Levy, the writer and director behind last year's mega blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. On February 13, Deadline reported that it had heard from sources that after a lengthy negotiation period, Netflix had finalized a deal for a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV show. The show was created by Drew Crevello after plans for a Paramount+ D&D series fell apart in 2024. Shawn Levy became involved recently and will help produce it through his 21 Laps production company. Reportedly the plan is that if this series takes off, Netflix could build a whole live-action universe around the show. Crevello has written the pilot episode and it's entering development. But if you're excited for Chris Pine and others from the wonderful 2023 Dungeons & Dragons film to show up, well, I've got bad news. It's reported that this new, yet-to-be-officially-confirmed series won't be connected to Paramount's movie. That makes me very sad. The reported Dungeons & Dragons series will be set in the famous 'Forgotten Realms' campaign setting. This is by far the most popular D&D setting and is the same universe that both Baldur's Gate 3 and the 2023 movie are set in. Since 2016 Levy has been working closely with Netflix. He's an executive producer on Stranger Things and has directed some episodes of the series. He also directed The Adam Project in 2022 for the streamer. It's not surprising that he was able to help bring this new D&D series to Netflix considering his past work with the company. And it feels like a perfect fit, considering how much Dungeons & Dragons plays a part in Stranger Things. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

"Dungeons & Dragons" Live-Action Series in Works at Netflix
Yara Sameh The live-action 'Dungeons & Dragons' TV adaptation has found new life. Sources say that a new iteration of the project is currently in development at Netflix. There had previously been a 'DnD' series set up at Paramount+ with a series order, but that project ultimately did not move forward due to strategic shifts at Paramount as well as the sale of co-studio eOne by Hasbro. Hasbro Entertainment is also producing the new project. The series is currently titled 'The Forgotten Realms,' named after the famous 'DnD' campaign setting. Drew Crevello, who was previously attached as the showrunner of the Paramount+ project, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the Netflix version. Shawn Levy will executive produce along with Dan Levine via 21 Laps under the company's overall TV deal with Netflix. 'Dungeons & Dragons' was originally created in 1974 by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson in Lake Geneva, WI. Considered one of the most influential games of all time, 'DnD' sees players create characters from a wide range of fantasy races like elves, orcs, and dwarves and take part in elaborate role playing through a wide range of settings and stories. Previous 'Dungeons & Dragons' onscreen projects include an animated TV series in the 1980s and a series of live-action movies beginning in 2000. Most recently, the well-received action-comedy 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' grossed over $205 million worldwide in 2023.
