Detained Russian vlogger asks DILG chief Remulla to drop charges
Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, currently detained for harassing Filipinos in public for content, has asked Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla to drop the charges against him, citing mental health concerns. According to Jun Veneracion's report in '24 Oras' on Friday, Remulla said he received a letter from the Russian detainee. 'Sumulat sa akin na he is suffering from mental health issues daw,' Remulla said. 'Kung puwede i-drop na 'yung mga kaso, humihingi siya ng patawad.' (He wrote to me that he is allegedly suffering from mental health issues…asking if the charges filed against him could be dropped, and he also asked for forgiveness.) But Remulla maintained that Zdorovetskiy's actions should never go unpunished. He further stated that charges of unjust vexation against Zdorovetskiy for harassing three security guards will be filed in court next week. Earlier, the Taguig Prosecutor's Office had dismissed the theft charges but found 'sufficient evidence on record to establish a reasonable certainty of conviction for the crime of unjust vexation.' Remulla also said that Zdorovetskiy's legal team attempted to reach a settlement with the security guards. 'Mabuti na lang, 'yung mga security guards ay matibay ang loob. Hindi bumigay at itutuloy natin ang kaso,' he said. (Good thing our security guards stood firm. They did not fall for it and will continue with the case.) DOH monitoring mild variant of monkeypox in PH
The Department of Health (DOH) allayed the fears of the public as the monkeypox cases being monitored in the country are of Clade II variant, the mild variant of the said disease. According to Chino Gaston's report in '24 Oras' on Friday, the DOH, however, assured that it is on guard to prevent the entry of the more transmissible Clade 1b variant to the country. 'All of them are mpox Clade II. Wala pa kaming nakitang mpox Clade 1b sa Pilipinas. Yung [Clade] II, very mild, self-limiting, at tsaka ang transmission niya ay skin-to-skin contact,' said Health Secretary Ted Herbosa. (All of them are mpox Clade II. We have yet to monitor any mpox Clade 1b in the Philippines. The Clade II variant is very mild, self-limiting, and the transmission is only through skin-to-skin contact.) The DOH chief added that some of the fatalities it recorded did not die of mpox, but due to complications brought about by advanced human immunodeficiency virus or HIV. The latest mpox case logged was a resident from Maco, Davao de Oro. The patient has already recovered, but there were two other suspected cases in Maco and in Nabunturan. Another case was also reported in Iloilo Province but was also declared recovered by the provincial health office. In Iloilo City, on the other hand, four individuals are under isolation and monitoring due to suspected infection. Meanwhile, the local authorities in Bacolod City will strictly monitor hotels, spas, wet markets, and terminals to prevent any outbreaks. Among the symptoms to watch out for include a skin rash or mucosal lesions, which can last two to four weeks. The rashes are accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes. There is no cure to mpox for now, but isolation, proper care, and rest for up to four weeks would suffice for recovery. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News

According to Aubrey Carampel's report in '24 Oras' Friday, the upcoming series will follow Barbie and Kyline's characters, Noreen and Shari, who are competitors in the beauty industry. 'Ang istorya ho namin ay punong-puno ng puso at pagmamahal sa pamilya with fashion. And beauty at its core, we will tackle murder mystery, love for family, revenge,' Barbie said. 'I approach it with a combination of my personal life and the character's experiences. 'Yung heartbreak or 'yung mga experience sa buhay eh makakadagdag din naman sa pag-atake sa isang character,' Kyline said. Joining the cast are Ruffa Gutierrez as Velma, Shari's mentor, and Sam Concepcion as Migoy, Noreen's childhood friend. 'Velma is, you know, she's a very ambitious and powerful woman, and yet, behind that, she's very soft. Nagmahal, nagkaroon siya ng heartbreak. And I think me, as Ruffa, marami na rin akong heartbreak na pinagdaanan sa buhay ko,' Ruffa said. 'It's been a really great experience being here, working with the team, and working with such generous and really talented actors,' Sam said. The series will also star Chai Fonacier as Kriselda, Velma's trusted assistant, and Aaron Maniego as Silvester, Shari's assistant. 'She's somebody that I wish I had her focus and her grit. Makalat ito eh,' Chai said. 'I'm just so grateful for my co-actors na sobrang gina-guide nila ako every step of the way and napakabait nila sa akin,' Aaron said. It dives deep into the intense rivalries and high-stakes drama among powerful women as they navigate the beauty industry driven by ambition, revenge, and power. The cast also includes Gloria Diaz, Sid Lucero, and South Korean actor Choi Bo Min. "Beauty Empire" is set to premiere soon on Viu before debuting on GMA Network. —Carby Rose Basina/CDC, GMA Integrated News

VP Sara back in Netherlands to visit dad Duterte, Imee in tow
Vice President Sara Duterte is now in the Netherlands, ahead of the impeachment trial against her. According to Maki Pulido's report in '24 Oras' on Thursday, Duterte arrived in Amsterdam on Wednesday, accompanied by Senator Imee Marcos, who will be one of the senator-judges at her trial. Her office had earlier announced her schedule this week, which included a trip to the Netherlands to once again visit her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. She is also scheduled to celebrate her 47th birthday on Saturday together with Filipino Duterte supporters in front of the ICC. While the vice president is abroad, the Senate is busy preparing for the trial, with the rooms already prepared and the robes for the senator-judges already measured. The reading of the articles of impeachment against the Vice President had originally been scheduled for June 2, when she would have still been in Europe. On Thursday, Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero announced that the reading has been postponed to June 11. The trial will be held at the Senate's session hall with the gallery open to the media and members of the public. The witness stand that had been used during the impeachment trial of President Joseph Estrada in 2000 has been brought out of the museum to be used again. The Senate of the 19th Congress will adjourn on June 13. The 20th Congress will then convene on July 28, the day of the President's State of the Nation Address. Senator-elect Vicente "Tito" Sotto III has questioned whether the impeachment is transferrable to the 20th Congress. In response, House prosecutor Lorenz Defensor likened the impeachment trial to a regular trial, saying, "Once a case is filed with the trial court, the judge may retire, the judge may get promoted, but the case stays on with the trial court. Hindi nadi-dismiss ang kaso just because napalitan ang mga judges [The case is not dismissed just because the judges are replaced]." For his part, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said, 'Yung prinsipyo kasi ng Senate is a continuing body, kaya merong 12-12. Twelve ang incumbent katulad ko, may 12 na bago. So continuing body siya, so 'yang principle na 'yan, tingin ko ma-a-apply 'yan sa mga ganitong situation, tulad ng impeachment.' (The principle of the Senate is that it is a continuing body, that's why there's 12-12. There's 12 incumbents like me and 12 others who are new. So it's a continuing body and that principle will apply in this kind of situation like the impeachment.) Senator Joel Villanueva also said that an impeachment court is still functional regardless if there are changes in members. He added that the vice president could question this before the Supreme Court, noting that the senators can discuss the matter next month. 'I think the SP is looking forward to having a caucus before the opening,' said Villanueva. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
