THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski A woman was arrested early Saturday morning after crashing into a stopped vehicle while allegedly impaired, leading to the seizure of a shotgun and cocaine. The collision happened just after midnight on Maryland Street near Portage Avenue. Police say a car driving south struck another vehicle that was waiting at a red light. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, but no injuries were reported. Officers observed the driver, 27-year-old woman, showed hints of intoxication. Vehicle search led to an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun, and officers also found 20 grams of cocaine on the woman. The drugs are estimated to be worth about $1,600. The 27-year-old woman faces several charges, including impaired driving, possession of a firearm without authorization, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She was released with a court date.

Photo: RNZ / Marika Khabazi Police arrested a man wanted in Waikato after stopping a vehicle flagged a stolen in Auckland on Sunday. Waikato Police said the man wanted by them was thought to be in Tokoroa but had contacts across Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Auckland. In a statement, police said they were alerted by traffic cameras to a vehicle they said was stolen, travelling on State Highway 20 across South Auckland at 9.35am. "The driver was signalled to stop but initially refused to do so. Eventually the driver did stop on a street in New Lynn, and was arrested." Meanwhile, the passenger got into the driver's seat and drove off, police claimed. "The Police Eagle helicopter, which was overhead, tracked the vehicle a short distance before the second driver abandoned the vehicle on a side street." He was also arrested. The first man, a 27-year-old, is due in Auckland District Court on Monday on a charge of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, as well as breaching his conditions. The second man, aged 22, is also due in Auckland District Court tomorrow on driving-related charges. Man arrested after carjacking, dangerous driving spree causing multiple accidents

A man was arrested this weekend after stealing a truck and going on a dangerous driving spree through downtown Edmonton. Police say downtown officers were flagged down on Sunday evening by a person who had just been carjacked near 102 Avenue and 96 Street. It was reported that a man jumped into the bed of the person's truck. When the driver exited his vehicle, the man attacked him, got into the driver's seat and drove away. As a result of the assault, the person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It was reported that following the assault and theft of the truck, the suspect caused multiple collisions. No other injuries were reported. Tactical officers located the stolen truck in a parking lot near the University of Alberta Hospital where they arrested the suspect. He was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in an earlier altercation during the spree, said police. The 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, dangerous driving, three counts of failing to remain at the scene of a collision and a breach of a release order.
