The US elite have moved on from The Hamptons. Here's where they're going instead
The Hamptons – a string of waterside boltholes at the eastern end of New York's Long Island – have long been a magnet for America's rich and famous. They draw a Hollywood who's who with their gold sands, glitzy beach clubs and sprawling estates, and fresh on their heels are in-the-know holidaymakers seeking coastal luxury, fine hotels and a healthy dose of celebrity spotting. Still today, stars from Beyoncé to Julianne Moore own a sought-after slice of the region. But while The Hamptons remain a celebrity stalwart, the region faces increasingly busy summers, leading some A-listers and members of the UHNW set to seek out quieter idylls within the US. From Western resort towns to sun-spangled Floridian coasts, these are the new hotspots pulling in America's beau monde. 30A, Florida It's not hard to see why this sun-drenched sliver of Florida's Gulf Coast draws America's A list. Sugar-white sand and pretty beach towns pepper 30A – a 24-mile stretch of highway that slinks around the Gulf, from Dune Allen down to Rosemary Beach, just outside Panama City. Forming part of the aptly named Emerald Coast, it's now also being dubbed the 'Hamptons of the South' on account of its celebrity residents – and it's become a particular hit with country stars, with musicians from Chris Stapleton to Dierks Bentley owning properties in this sand-trimmed slice of paradise. There's plenty to attract holidaymakers beyond star-spotting too. Make a beeline for Grayton Beach State Park, with its coastal forest trails and bountiful birdlife. Then head back into the town of Grayton Beach to hop between art galleries and eat boat-fresh seafood (folks rave about the crab cakes at The Red Bar). A short hop away you'll find the boutiques and ice-cream parlours of Seaside, a neat-as-a-pin resort town known as the setting for the 1998 movie The Truman Show, and Camp Helen State Park, which protects a large coastal dune lake. Where to stay It's all about chic vacation rentals on Florida's Emerald Coast. Check out Exclusive 30A, whose luxurious villas include private pools and outdoor kitchens. Jackson Hole, Wyoming What do Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock have in common? Yes, they both starred in 1996 thriller A Time To Kill – but they also share a penchant for this chic Wyoming resort, owning lavish properties in the area. Other silver screen heavyweights such as Harrison Ford have ties to the area too. So what's drawing the cream of America's showbiz crop to Jackson Hole? A lack of state income tax is up there – but there's also unspoiled wilderness stitched with the jagged peaks of the Tetons, world-class winter sports and a Wild West vibe that doesn't scrimp on luxury. The region is a springboard for adventures in Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, each offering wildlife tours, hiking and scenic drives. Then there are 2,500 acres of skiable terrain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, mostly geared towards pros and intermediates, but with a handful of runs for beginners. Jackson Hole does après-ski with a flourish too: dine at top-notch New American restaurants such as The Blue Lion and take in sweeping views, drink in hand, from The Deck, reached via a ride on the Bridger Gondola. Where to stay Expect a lesson in luxury true to the brand at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, with its full spa, ski concierges and eclectic dining (a new luxury chophouse will debut this summer). Lanai, Hawaii Most visitors to Hawaii don't start with Lanai, the teeny island at the centre of the archipelago that's almost entirely owned by tech tycoon Larry Ellison. But it's become something of a magnet for America's jet set, with everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Tom Cruise holidaying here in recent years. The wild island has plenty for adventure seekers. You'll find rugged beaches and limpid waters that beg to be snorkelled (Hulopoʻe Beach is one of the finest) and some 400 miles of ATV trails beating into rocky, Mars-like landscapes. Yet if you're more disposed to some R&R the island offers that too. Its pair of Four Seasons resorts centre on wellness. Four Seasons Sensei puts its best foot forward with equine therapy, mindful hiking and aerial yoga, while the Four Seasons Resort Lanai embraces traditional Hawaiian ingredients with spa treatments such as a ti leaf body wrap. Where to stay It's worth splurging on either of the Four Seasons' properties if budgets allow – otherwise, rustic Hotel Lānaʻi places you right in Lānaʻi City, with its arts centre and local restaurants. Austin, Texas It should be of little surprise that the quirky Texan capital draws its fair share of celebrity residents and holidaymakers. This is the self-professed 'Live Music Capital of the World', home to more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the States. It's always welcomed a who's who of the music world – from country warbler Willie Nelson to the late Janis Joplin – and now a sect of Hollywood's elite have migrated here, including Emma Stone and Matthew McConaughey. Any trip to Austin should be at least in part about music: celebs can often be spotted at The Continental Club, an Austin mainstay whose stage has played host to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan. You can spend the rest of your time wandering around the Zilker Botanical Garden; taking in art exhibitions (don't miss the eclectic collection at the Blanton Museum of Art); and paddling on Lady Bird Lake. Where to stay Austin isn't light on luxury hotels. It's a little out of town, but the Lake Austin Spa Resort warrants the detour for its destination spa and serene waterside location. Dutchess County, New York You needn't leave the Empire State to find an exclusive escape. Head Upstate to Dutchess County where chocolate-box towns are attracting celebs seeking extra privacy. There's leafy Rhinebeck, whose streets are thick with one-off boutiques and artisanal bakeries – be sure to pop into Samuel's Sweet Shop, a traditional candy store that's owned by actor Paul Rudd, who lives in the neighbourhood. Then there's bucolic Millbrook, tucked into a tapestry of horse farms, which has been connected with stars from Ben Affleck to Liam Neeson. The quaint main street is studded with cute cafes and antiques stores. It's all about the small-town charm here – but big-hitting attractions include the sprawling Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, which chronicles the life of the 32nd president, and the prized Culinary Institute of America campus, where you can enjoy guided tours and food tastings. Where to stay Tipped as the oldest continuously operating inn in the US, Beekman Arms & Delamater Inn dates back to 1844, and promises period-style rooms and suites, and an old-school tap room dishing up American favourites.

Bay County Sheriff's Office assists ICE in arrest of 45 illegal aliens
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Trump Administration has a number of priorities, but securing the border and deporting illegal immigrants is near the top of the list. Federal immigration and customs enforcement has welcomed help from local law enforcement, like the Bay County Sheriff's Office. Last week the sheriff's office executed a search warrant in Panama City Beach where they say they seized 1 pound of fentanyl. Florida State Panama City Hosts Annual Black History Event They arrested an illegal immigrant charging him with the distribution of fentanyl. They say they also discovered two other people were in the country illegally. They were arrested on Monday. Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford says they'll be able to help even more, once ICE institutes its local officer training program. Since Donald Trump took office in January, Bay County Sheriff's deputies have assisted ICE almost daily, arresting 25 illegal immigrants with criminal records, and arrested another 20 illegal immigrants during their routine operations. Sheriff Tommy Ford says they're also assisting ICE by transporting criminals to ICE detention facilities, some as far away as Mississippi. 'We're basically a force multiplier for them. We can help them gather intelligence at end of the determine the criminal history of individuals and things like that and be out there with them another another law enforcement officer there with them to back them up. But we don't have immigration authority to put out to arrest somebody on an immigration violation,' Ford said. Ford says their only interested in people facing charges. 'The focus right now is on criminal illegal aliens. And that would be either somebody that's in the country illegally or overstay, that was here on a visa but did not leave when the visa indicated that they were supposed to leave, that has criminal charges either an active warrant for their arrest or previous criminal charges that ice evaluates and determines that they should be either removed from the country or detained,' Ford said. Sheriff Ford has submitted 20 of his detention deputies to go through warrant service officer training. It is a one-day training that allows detention deputies to serve ice paperwork. He's hoping the 287(g) program is reinstated. Deputies complete 6 weeks of intensive training to receive federal immigration authority. Ford says local deputies participated in that program some years ago. Seaside, 30A communities prepare for Spring Break crowds with new curfew 'Under Sheriff McKeithen we entered into the 287 enforcement agreement where we actually had deputies that were trained to go out into the field and conduct an immigration-related investigation and make arrests and process them through the ice process,' Ford added. The program ended in 2012. Local deputies applied again in 2019, but ICE has not offered the training. Sheriff Ford says is he anxious to learn about the new training, but it may take time for ICE to offer it again. Until then, he says they'll continue to work with ICE as needed. If deputies find an illegal immigrant in the jail, they give the information to ICE. They can order the suspect to be detained for an additional 48 hours after completing their time. That's when they're transported to an ICE detention facility. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
