The tournament, hosted at the Lusail Multipurpose Arena from July 28 to August 1, features four Asian teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq. Japan started strongly, securing the first quarter 29-19. Qatar responded in the second quarter, matching Japan's intensity with a 24-24 tie. The third quarter saw Japan regain the lead, winning 29-24, but Qatar fought back in the fourth, outscoring Japan 25-21. Despite the late surge, Qatar could not overturn the deficit. Qatar's Alen Hadzibegovic led the game with 24 points, while Japan's Yudai Nishida was his team's top scorer with 21 points. The result leaves Qatar with three points in the tournament standings, while Japan earns their first two points, having missed the opening round. Qatar previously defeated Saudi Arabia 82-78 in the tournament's opening match. The tournament concludes on Friday, August 1, with Saudi Arabia facing Japan at 5pm followed by Qatar's final match against Iraq at 7pm. Under the guidance of Turkish coach Hakan Demir, Qatar is using the tournament as a critical phase in their preparations for the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, scheduled for August 5-17, 2025, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with 16 teams competing. Qatar is drawn in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Group B includes Guam, Japan, Syria, and Iran; Group C comprises China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia; and Group D features Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Iraq, and the Philippines. The Asia Cup follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second and third in each group will compete in crossover knockout matches to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.

The event will feature four leading Asian national teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq, as part of their preparations for upcoming continental competitions, notably the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025, with 16 participating teams. The tournament represents the final stage of the Qatar national team's rigorous preparation program, following intensive training camps in Turkey, Doha, and South Korea. It is designed to evaluate the players' technical and physical readiness in a highly competitive setting against diverse Asian basketball styles. In the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 draw, Qatar is placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. The team will commence its campaign against Lebanon on August 6 at 9pm, followed by South Korea on August 8 at 11am, and Australia on August 10 at 11am.

Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Men's National Basketball Team has commenced its overseas training camp in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the third phase of its comprehensive preparation program for the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025. The tournament will feature Asia's top 16 national teams. During the camp, Qatar will play two friendly matches against the host nation, South Korea. The first game is scheduled for Friday (1pm Doha Time), while the second will take place on Sunday (July 20), at 9am Doha Time. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), will attend the matches and hold official meetings with representatives of the Korean Basketball Association to strengthen institutional and technical cooperation between the two federations. The Qatari delegation is led by Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Director of National Teams and Secretary-General of the QBF, alongside Jassim Ibrahim Ashkanani, National Teams Manager. The team is coached by Turkish tactician Hakan Demir. Qatar's preparations began in June with a training camp in Turkey from June 19 to July 3, 2025, which included intensive drills and internal scrimmages. The team then held a short domestic camp in Doha, playing two friendly matches against India on July 11 and 13. At the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, Qatar is drawn in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. The team will open its campaign with a highly anticipated match against Lebanon on August 6, 2025. Jordan has already booked its spot to the 31st FIBA Asia Cup 2025 with wins over Palestine 87-81 and Iraq 73-64 in Window 2 which came after two earlier wins over Palestine 73-46 and Saudi Arabia 79-64 in Window 1. Saudi Arabia is second after it beat Palestine 73-66 and Iraq 66-58, while Iraq beat Palestine 75-72 and Saudi Arabia overcame Iraq 64-58 in Window 1. A total of 24 teams are playing Round 1 qualification matches for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in three windows, while also battling for qualifying spots for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup alongside hosts Qatar who automatically advanced. The top two teams of each qualifying group move to the FIBA Asia Cup and the six third-placed teams will play another qualifying round for the final four places. The 31st FIBA Asia Cup is set to be held in Saudi Arabia from Aug 5-17. The Kingdom, 2023 Asian Games silver medalist and three-time qualifier to the World Cup, 2010, 2019 and 2023, will be playing the FIBA Asia Cup for the 17th time, with its best position runner-up in 2011. Meanwhile, the head coach Wisam Sous has departed for a coaching stint in Taiwan and the Jordan Basketball Federation has new executive board after 8 years of a temporary committee running the game. Spaniard Juan Manuel 'Piti' Hurtado, who previously coached in Spain, Japan and Venezuela before switching focus to broadcasting, will lead the team as of Window 3. The First Division League is now under way with a break for Window 3 matches.
