GWCC/CNN Center MARTA station is getting a new name before 2026 FIFA World Cup

The MARTA Board of Directors approved a resolution to change the name for one of its busiest stations. The GWCC/CNN Center station in downtown Atlanta will soon become the Sports Entertainment and Convention, or SEC, rail station. The signs and maps will be updated by Jan. 1, 2026, six months before Atlanta hosts games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 'I think that this station is vital for a a big event that sets the deadline at a specific time and that's why I thought it was important to move on this one immediately,' said Director W. Thomas Worthy, who introduced the resolution. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A MARTA spokesperson told Channel 2 Action News that it is still working on the project's budget and timeline for the work to begin since the board just passed the resolution on Thursday. While no budget has been released, Worthy said he thinks MARTA will be able to raise some private funds to help cover the costs. MARTA CEO Collie Greenwood added that the cost will differ from other projects because of the support already being established. 'This allows us to forgo a lot of the lengthy and expensive public engagement process. So we will come up with a with a a cost and we will share it with the board but it won't be indicative of the balance of the stations,' he said. Typically, the renaming process for a MARTA station requires input from the public. Worthy said the Atlanta Sports Council, Metro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena all supported the name change. MARTA board chair Jennifer Ide added that the chamber worked with the businesses in the area to come up with a name that wasn't related to any company. 'There is no doubt in my mind that there are multiple stations that need to be renamed that we need to go through a a a long and protracted community engagement process to rename those,' Worthy said. Atlanta will host eight games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium: five group stage matches, a Round of 32 game, Round of 16 game and one of the semifinals. The group stages will be on June 15, 18, 21, 24 and 27. The Round of 32 game will be July 1 followed by Round of 16 game on July 7. The semifinal will be held on July 15. UAE: How to exit a company and transfer your shares as a partner

Question: I am a partner in a private company, and I am also a manager in the company with an internal contract that specifies my salary and all my other rights. This internal contract is not registered with the Ministry of Labour and my residency is not issued by the Ministry of Labour. I have not received my salary for more than 6 months. I have submitted my resignation from work and also asked the partners to buy my shares in the company, but they are refusing. My question: what is the appropriate legal procedure to take to exit this partnership, sell my shares in the company, and also obtain my overdue salaries and other labor rights? Please advise Answer: Any partner may assign or pledge his shares in the company to any other partner or to a third party. He may also apply to the court, if the duration of the partnership is fixed, to authorise his retirement from the partnership if he gives adequate reasons for his request as per Article 677of the Civil Transaction Law and such share shall be estimated according to its value as at the date of introducing the case in court. Assignment or pledge shall be made in accordance with the terms of the MOA of the Company. The partner according to Article 80 of the Federal Decree Law No. (32) Of 2021 on Commercial Companies, shall notify the other partners through the manager of the Company of the assignee or purchaser and the terms of the assignment or sale. The manager shall then notify the partners as soon as he receives the notice. Each partner may request redemption of the share within thirty [30] days of the date on which the manager is notified of the agreed price. In case the price is a matter of disagreement, the share price shall be assessed by one or more experts having technical and financial experience in the subject of the share and nominated by the Competent Authority, based upon a request of the applicant for redemption and at the latter's expense. If the right of redemption is exercised by more than one partner, the share [s] offered for sale shall be divided among such partners in proportion to their respective capital contributions. If the mentioned 30 days expire without any partner exercising the right of redemption, the concerned partner shall be entitled to freely dispose of his share'. Regarding your rights and dues, and since your contract is not registered with the Ministry of Labour, then you have to file a case in front of the civil court against the company to recover them in addition to any other rights you may have as a partner in the company.

Oilers Evander Kane Has To Make Important Decision

EDMONTON – It's decision time for the Edmonton Oilers and Evander Kane. The NHL Trade Deadline is one week away. Unfortunately, the Oilers may need to alter their plans due to the team's current state. A five-game losing streak isn't the end of the world. It is when those five games are right before the Trade Deadline. Bookmark The Hockey News Edmonton Oilers team site to never miss the latest news, game-day coverage, and more. The Oilers will have to make decisions, and there is no question about that. However, one of the players they must decide about is Kane. And he has his own deadline. As reported by Elliotte Friedman on his latest installment of his written 32 Thoughts, on March 1st, Kane's no-movement clause changes to a modified no-trade clause. With the new clause, he must have a 16-team approved trade list. So, this is where things get real for Kane and the Oilers. Kane is exactly the kind of player the Oilers need on their roster in the playoffs. However, this only holds water if he is 100 percent healthy and up to game speed. Can Kane get up to game speed before the playoffs? That's tough to quantify. He is recovering from several different injuries. Kane had surgery for his sports hernia before the season started, then knee surgery in the last couple of months. That's a lot for a 33-year-old power forward. How To Know Connor McDavid Isn't Playing Well EDMONTON -- Even the best have an off day. Kane has been a consistent 20-goal scorer for his entire career. His energy, snarl, and goal-scoring prowess make him the ideal playoff performer. But the biggest question with Kane is this: can he be both healthy and effective when he returns to the Oilers? If the answer is no, the Oilers must consider a trade. And with a fresh list of 16 teams to pick from, surely a deal can be had that benefits everyone. Buckle up, Oil Country, this could be an entertaining week. Add us to your Google News favorites, and never miss a story.

Many believe Maine's net energy billing needs reform, but diverge on whether to tweak or toss

Solar panels in Damariscotta, Maine. (Photo by Evan Houk/ Maine Morning Star) When Maine's solar energy incentive program was expanded in 2019, former state legislator Jeffery Hanley was at the table during those discussions. 'It was, in my eyes, a disaster then, and it's a disaster now,' he told the current members of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee during a public hearing Thursday. Hanley attended the hearing to speak in favor of a series of bills introduced by his fellow Republicans to repeal the state's net energy billing program. The committee heard four such proposals with the stated goal of reducing energy costs for ratepayers. The bills drew hours of testimony from people who want to see the program tossed in the bin and those who believe it works but agree it could be improved. Net energy billing is a utility program designed to encourage customers to install or participate in small-scale renewable energy projects like solar panels by offering credits to offset their electricity bills. It was expanded in 2019 so customers can use renewable energy generators located outside of their property but within the same utility service territory, such as a community solar project. That expansion, in particular, has come under fire for providing generous incentives to solar farm developers that utility customers are helping pay for. The legislators seeking to repeal the program argue it is driving up costs for ratepayers, especially small businesses and low-income households who can't afford to get solar panels. Opponents of the bills also want to lower energy costs, but many said that simply getting rid of net energy billing won't fix the problem and could create an issue for those who have transitioned to renewable energy because of the program. McCrum, a 15,000 acre potato farm and processing facility in Aroostook County, is paying $57,000 a month in public policy charges, according to an electric bill Senate Minority Leader Trey Stewart (R-Aroostook) shared with the committee while presenting LD 257. While Stewart specifically linked that charge to net energy billing, a representative from Versant Power told the committee he would get back to them with more information about what is included in that fee. SUBSCRIBE: GET THE MORNING HEADLINES DELIVERED TO YOUR INBOX Legislators meant well when they enacted the net energy billing program; however, it grew too large, too fast and has now become a 'job-killing solar tax,' said Sen. Stacey Guerin (R-Penobscot) when presenting her bill, LD 32. She said she has heard stories from her constituents who have had to close their businesses over mounting energy costs, which she also attributed largely to increased net energy billing costs. However, the Natural Resources Council of Maine and others who testified at the hearing pointed out that volatile natural gas prices due to international events and other market factors have driven up energy costs in recent years. Hanley argued that while it isn't 'all due to the solar issue…it certainly is a component.' And for those like himself who live on a fixed income and have seen their power bill more than double from four years ago, 'This is just salt in the wound.' The most recent analysis from the Office of the Public Advocate estimates the annual ratepayer cost of operational net energy billing projects to be more than $240 million, which is higher than expected, said Public Advocate Heather Sanborn at the hearing. Committee members said that number is higher than what they had recently been told, but Sanborn said her number includes a slew of projects that came online at the end of December. While some ratepayers' bills have increased, net energy billing has also helped launch a successful solar industry in Maine and stabilize rates for the schools, grocery stores, municipal governments and other customers who have participated in the program, said Caroline Colan from the Governor's Energy Office. Ending the program raises questions about what would happen to participants, which isn't addressed in the bills, Colan added. The agency is open to modifying the program, but as written, the bills to repeal the program are 'irresponsibly blunt.' Legislature to again weigh whether clean energy credits are helping or harming Maine ratepayers The Thursday hearing also included LD 450, which has nearly identical language to the bills proposed by Guerin and Stewart, and LD 515, which seeks more specifically to undo the 2019 expansion of the program. Though she has concerns about how the program affects ratepayers, Sanborn testified neither for nor against the bill, echoing the need to modernize rather than completely scrap the program. With more than 100,000 participating ratepayers, Sanborn said she can't support bills that would erase the program without a 'legislative solution' for what would come next. Instead of the blanket approach proposed in the bills, Maine State Chamber of Commerce President Patrick Woodcock, who spoke neither for nor against the bills, offered a series of suggestions to improve the current program, including a ceiling on credits, adjusting compensation rates based on the size of the project and more utilization of energy storage, among other considerations. Though a renewable energy compensation program is not unique to Maine, Woodcock said the rates provided to large projects are more generous in comparison. Guerin touched on this during her testimony, saying that out-of-state developers have benefited by utilizing the tariff rate program, which offers a dollar credit to nonresidential customers. In 2023, legislators passed some reforms to address those criticisms. Sen. Bruce Bickford (R-Androscoggin) said he overpaid for a 9.5-acre parcel of land, but he has solar companies offering him nearly three times what he paid for the land. 'There's a lot of land in the state that is overvalued due to solar,' he told the committee when presenting his proposal, LD 359, which would change how participants are credited for the energy they produce. More specifically, it seeks to cut out the compensation given for transmission and distribution. Bickford said his bill would ensure that net energy billing remains fair, focused and beneficial to individual customers and argued it would prevent large-scale investors from dominating the resources. Though he said the bill would not penalize existing contracts, environmental advocates testified against the bill arguing that it could hurt current participants. SUPPORT: YOU MAKE OUR WORK POSSIBLE
