Ayrshire first as racecourse hosts four-day international event to celebrate iconic Italian scooter

All roads led to Ayr Racecourse... especially if you rode an iconic Lambretta.
Thousands of owners descended on the Ayr venue for a four-day gathering which had a truly worldwide appeal.
Some came from Argentina, some from Poland and Northern Ireland. Others even made the trip from Modena, Italy, riding the near two and a half thousand kilometre distance on their Lambrettas.
The organiser behind the 34th Euro Lambretta event, staged in Ayr for the first time ever, was Lambretta Club Scotland Chairman, John McMillan.
John said: 'We hold this event all around Europe. Last year it was in France and the year before down in Lincoln, and held there by the GB club.
'The last time it was held in Scotland was 2004, when we had around 500 people in Kelso. Since then it's just grown and grown. So it's the first time this event has been held in Ayrshire.'
Over the course of this latest gathering just under 1300 Lambretta fanatics met up at the racecourse to compare models, swap stories, exchange ideas, buy merchandise, and, of course, have a great time.
John said: 'You have to be a member of an international Lambretta club. Feedback has been good and everyone's been patting us on the back.'
As well as the scooters on display, there was a full entertainment package including three bands, a pipe band, ceilidh band and DJ.
One rider who came from Northern Ireland won a trophy for travelling to the event on the oldest Lambretta, a 1953 model.
John said: 'These events are great for like-minded people to meet up and share knowledge. It was a huge success.'
