MP crowned overall champion at National Canoe Dragon Boat & Para Canoe championships

Bhopal: Host Madhya Pradesh emerged as the overall champion, with Kerala securing the second position in the 35th National Junior and Sub Junior Canoe Sprint , 18th National Para Canoe Championship, and 13th National Dragon Boat Championship . Madhya Pradesh dominated the Junior Men's category with 71 points and the Women's category with 75 points. They also secured the Sub Junior Boys championship with 58 points, whilst Kerala clinched victory in the Sub Junior Girls category, leaving Madhya Pradesh as runners-up. The final day at Lower Lake witnessed three 200-metre dragon boat races, organised under the MP Kayaking and Canoeing Association and the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association. Madhya Pradesh secured gold in both Dragon Boat D-10 Junior categories, with Punjab taking silver in both events. Haryana and Telangana claimed bronze in the men's and women's categories respectively. MP also won gold in the Mixed category, securing the overall Dragon Boat championship. In the Para Canoe events , MP athletes showed remarkable performance. Prachi Yadav claimed gold in Women's KL-2, whilst Pooja Ojha secured gold in KL-1. Anuradha Shrivas earned bronze in Women's KL-3. In the men's events, Manish Yadav won bronze in VA-1, Nipendra Chaure secured bronze in VL-2, and Rajveer Singh obtained silver in VL-3. The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Balveer Singh Kushwaha, Dr. Shailendra Srivastava, Brigadier Rajneesh Gaur, Captain Bagram Vishnoi, Colonel Nitin Mehta, and Councillor Jeet Singh Rajput, who presented the awards. PS Bundela, Lieutenant Commander Doctor Vinod Parasar, Mayank Singh Thakur, and other officials were present. Olympian Coach Mayank Thakur expressed appreciation to all participants.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh maintained its supremacy at the National Canoe Sprint and Para Canoe on the fourth day, securing 12 gold medals at the 35th National Junior and Sub Junior Canoe Sprint and 18th National Para Canoe at Lower Lake. The state's athletes continued their exceptional performance, garnering eight gold, three silver, and three bronze medals on Sunday. Kerala and Odisha each secured two gold medals, while MP retained the top position in the medal standings. In the 18th National Para Canoe, MP secured nine medals, including four gold, three silver, and two bronze. The 200m canoe event was organised at Chhota Talab in the capital on Sunday, under the supervision of Madhya Pradesh Kayaking and Canoeing Association and Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association. MP's Wangthoi and Yebhaba clinched gold in sub-junior boys K-2, whilst Ishan, Wangthoi, Devjeet, and Yebhaba secured gold in K-4. Mahi Sahu secured bronze in the C-1 women's category, and Kanupriya and Pragati won silver in C-2. Aditya claimed gold in 5,000m, Rukmani won gold, and Krishna secured silver in the women's category. The mixed pairs of Masuma and Prince, and Rohan and Chandrakala both secured gold medals. MP's Pooja Pooja Ojha won gold in VL 1, Para Olympian Prachi Yadav secured gold in VL-2, Sanjeev Kotia won gold in the KL-2 men's category, and Manish Kaurav claimed gold in KL-3. Sangeeta Rajput of Haryana won VL-3 gold, Yash Kumar of UP secured KL-1 gold. Secretary Mayank Thakur announced that the Dragon Boat 200-metre race and remaining Para Canoe matches would conclude the event tomorrow.
