Two taken to hospital following arson attack in Armagh city
Two people have been taken to hospital following an arson attack in Armagh city, police said. The incident happened at an establishment in the Irish Street area at about 8.55pm on Monday. A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said officers were at the scene on Monday night. READ MORE 'Officers received a report of a fire shortly around 8.55pm,' they said. 'They were in attendance alongside colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire Rescue Service who extinguished the blaze. 'Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries. 'A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time.' Newry and Armagh MP Daire Hughes condemned a 'frightening incident'. 'This was a frightening incident for those in the vicinity, and I want to commend the swift response from emergency services,' the Sinn Féin representative said in a post on X. 'Police will remain in the area over the coming hours as their investigation continues. My thoughts are with anyone who may have been injured or impacted by this incident.' - PA

Man suffers broken nose during arrest; ASIRT investigating
EDMONTON — An Edmonton police officer is being investigated for allegedly breaking a man's nose during an arrest last month. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says the officer saw two men involved in a dispute over a broken window in the area of 97 Street and 103A Avenue at approximately 8:35 a.m. on Nov. 26. While the officer arrested the first man, the other one, a 38-year-old man, intervened and a struggle ensued, ASIRT said. The police officer used his baton and the 38-year-old man's nose was broken during the arrest. The man was taken to hospital, where he was also treated for a bruised face, ribs and left shoulder, ASIRT said. He also has a chipped tooth. ASIRT is investigating the arrest.
