Sarah Paulson, Toni Collette, Dianne Wiest & Toby Wallace Leading Cody Fern's ‘Mother Courage'; Mk2 Launching At Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and Toni Collette (Hereditary) are set to star as estranged sisters whose reunion sets off an emotionally volatile chain of events in Mother Courage, the feature directorial debut of American Horror Story and The Assassination of Gianni Versace actor Cody Fern. Two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest (Edward Scissorhands) will play their vitriolic mother, while Toby Wallace (The Bikeriders) will also star. Set against the backdrop of a Broadway production of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage, the story follows Sandra Bloom (Paulson), a celebrated actress whose life begins to unravel as she struggles through rehearsals for her starring role. When her sister April (Collette) arrives following a 30-year long estrangement, the stage is set for a tense confrontation. As long buried secrets resurface, the sisters are forced to confront the fractures of their past… and what remains of their future. Wallace plays April's son, Theo. The film is co-written by Cody Fern and Devon Bostick and produced by Nancy Grant (Mommy), who has a long-standing relationship with mk2 Films, having previously collaborated on works by Xavier Dolan and Monia Chokri. André Turpin (Mommy) serves as cinematographer. ‘Dig' Comedy From Amy Poehler & Mike Schur Picked Up To Series By Peacock
Peacock has given a series pickup to Dig, a new comedy that will reunite Amy Poehler with her Parks and Recreation pal Mike Schur. Schur and Poehler will co-write the pilot episode and executive produce the series, with Poehler set to star. The series marks the first collaboration between the pair since Parks and Rec, which aired its series finale in 2015. Brad Haugen has joined Lionsgate as their EVP of Digital Strategy & Growth. He'll be spearheading original content creation for digital platforms, brand partnerships and other storytelling initiatives in the digital space while monetizing Lionsgate's 20K-plus title film and TV library on social. Peacock Picks Up A24 Series ‘Superfakes' From Safdie Brothers and Alice Ju
Peacock is diving into the black market underworld with its latest series order for 'Superfakes.' The crime drama comes from A24 with the Safdie brothers as executive producers. 'Superfakes' follows a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer, who upon entering the dangerous underworld of the black market has her life forever changed as she tries to balance the perfect suburban existence for her family with her criminal dealings. No cast is currently attached to the project. The series is created, written and executive produced by Alice Ju, who also serves as showrunner. Ju has some major credits to her name as she previously wrote and produced for both Netflix's 'Beef' and 'Russian Doll,' Max's 'The Other Two' and Peacock's 'Poker Face.' The series will be executive produced by Josh and Benny Safdie, who are best known for the Adam Sandler drama 'Uncut Gems.' Other EPs include Howard Klein ('The Office,' 'Parks and Recreation'), Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Olivia Gerke ('Fantasmas') for 3 Arts. The series is produced by A24 and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. This marks the second TV series to come from the Safdie brothers, the first being 2023's 'The Curse.' The Showtime original followed Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder as a couple dedicated to flipping houses into eco-friendly homes. As they try to get their HGTV show off the ground, the lines between their cheery onscreen personas and tense reality begin to blur. Benny Safdie is also behind 'The Smashing Machine,' the upcoming biographical drama about MMA fighter Mark Kerr, starring Dwayne Johnson. As for Josh Safdie, he is a producer on the Mary Bronstein comedy drama starring Rose Byrne, 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.' Peacock has given a series order to a new crime drama called Superfakes from the Emmy Award-winning Alice Ju (Beef, Poker Face).
