HH Shaikh Khalid Leads Bahrain's Delegation at 37th GCC Olympic Committee Meeting
TDT | Manama His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, led Bahrain's delegation at the 37th meeting of the GCC National Olympic Committee Presidents in Kuwait on Sunday. Joining Shaikh Khalid were His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee; Mr. Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General; and Board Member Ms. Fajr Jassim. Shaikh Khalid also held a high-level meeting with newly elected International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry. His Highness congratulated Coventry on her historic appointment and extended Bahrain's full support for the global Olympic movement. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between Bahrain and the IOC, particularly in Olympic programme development, women's empowerment, and expanding grassroots participation. During the GCC council sessions, several key decisions were made to boost regional sporting unity. These included assigning executive committees to review the final report of the 3rd GCC Beach Games held in Oman, and approving Qatar as host of the 4th GCC Sports Games in 2026. Kuwait was granted hosting rights for the 2nd GCC Youth Games in 2028. To ensure alignment with global competitions, the Coordination and Follow-up Committee was tasked with drawing up a unified calendar for GCC sporting events between 2029 and 2032. The UAE will host the inaugural GCC Sports Law and Management Conference in 2026, a move welcomed by all member states. In a major step toward inclusivity, the council endorsed the creation of a unified platform for women's sports across the Gulf, calling on all national Olympic committees to provide full support. Shaikh Khalid commended the collaborative spirit shown by GCC nations and reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to driving excellence, cooperation, and unity across the sporting landscape of the region.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, led Bahrain's delegation to the 37th Meeting of Their Highnesses, Excellencies, and Heads of Olympic Committees of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in the State of Kuwait on Sunday, May 11, 2025. The Bahraini delegation also included His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Mr. Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, and Ms. Fajer Jassim, a board member of the committee. Key decisions made during the meeting included assigning the Executive Office and relevant committees to review the final report of the 3rd GCC Beach Games recently hosted by the Sultanate of Oman. The council also approved Qatar's request to host the 4th GCC Sports Games in 2026 and endorsed Kuwait's bid to host the 2nd GCC Youth Games in 2028. Oman participates in 37th meeting of heads of GCC Olympic Committees
MUSCAT: Represented by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 37th meeting of heads of GCC Olympic Committees, held in Kuwait today. Oman was represented at the meeting by Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, Deputy Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee. The meeting looked into the report filed by the organising committee of the 3rd GCC Beach Games (Muscat 2025) held in Muscat Governorate from April 5 to 11, 2025. The meeting's participants expressed thanks and gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for the efforts it made to ensure the success of the the 3rd GCC Beach Games. — ONA

UAE Wins 23 Medals to Take Second at GCC Beach Games 2025 UAE athletes won eight gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals at the GCC Beach Games 2025 held in Muscat. The UAE team placed second overall at the 3rd GCC Beach Games, which took place in Muscat from April 5th to the 11th. The national delegation, comprising 77 athletes, won a total of 23 medals—eight gold, eight silver and seven bronze—across disciplines including sailing, athletics, paragliding, beach handball and football. The sailing team led the UAE's performance with 11 medals, including a gold in the Optimist team event and another in the K4 event by Marwa Al Hammadi. In athletics, the UAE took home six medals, with silver and bronze wins in the men's 4x100m relay and high jump events. The aerosports team added three more medals, including two golds in paragliding earned by Abdullah Nasser Al Hammadi. The UAE beach handball team won bronze after claiming four victories in the group stage. Meanwhile, the national beach football team secured silver after a 5–1 win over Kuwait in their final match of the tournament. Oman topped the medal table with 45 medals, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain followed with 18 and 17 respectively.

UAE bag second spot with 23 medals at GCC Beach Games in Muscat
The UAE national beach football team secured the silver medal at the 3rd GCC Beach Games in Muscat following a commanding 5-1 victory over Kuwait on the final day of the tournament. The games began on April 5 ended on Friday and featured 330 athletes from GCC, with the UAE delegation comprising 77 athletes. Salem Al Baloushi added a bronze to the medal tally in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.55 metres, bringing the UAE's final count to 23 medals: Eight gold, eight silver, and seven bronze. The UAE competed across all eight beach sports disciplines including football, handball, volleyball, athletics, tent pegging, sailing, swimming, and paragliding. Oman topped the final standings with a total of 45 medals (20 gold, 18 silver, and seven bronze). Saudi Arabia finished third with 18 medals (four gold, six silver, and eight bronze), while Bahrain dropped to fourth with 17 medals (four gold, four silver, and none bronze). The UAE sailing team earned the highest number of medals within the national delegation, claiming 11 medals in total. These included gold in the Optimist team event and a K4 gold won by Marwa Al Hammadi. Al Yazia Al Hammadi secured silver in the same race. In the K6 category, Dhooha Al Beshr won gold and Kamilia Khalifa took bronze. Zayed Al Hosani won gold in the Optimist (junior) category, with Khalifa Al Rumaithi taking gold in the overall classification for the same class. Othman Al Hammadi captured gold in the boys' K6 race. Adel Khalid Al Bastaki secured silver in the youth K7 category, while Mohammed Al Marzouqi claimed silver in the K4 event. Madia Al Niyadi won bronze in the girls' Optimist class. The UAE athletics team captured six medals —three silver and three bronze. Silver medals were earned by the men's 4x relay team (Naseeb Salmeen, Mohammed Al Nubi Al Hammadi, Salem Al Baloushi, and MoazFawzi), the women's 4x relay team (Fatima Al Baloushi, Mahra Abdulrahim, Fatima Khalil, and Jawaher Fareed), and Alia Yousif Al Hammadi in the women's high jump. Bronze medals were won by Abeer Ibrahim Al Baloushiin the women's triple jump, Roqaya Al Marzouqi in the athletics mile race, and Salem Al Baloushi in the men's long jump. The UAE aerosports team also delivered a strong showing, winning three medals—two golds by Abdullah Nasser Al Hammadi in paragliding (target landing and cone slalom), and a team silver in paragliding. In tent pegging, the UAE team claimed bronze in the javelin team event through athletes Fahad Shanwan Al Shammari, Saif Mubarak Al Harthi, Mohammed Abdullah Hussein, Khalid Al Masoud Al Hashemi, and Eisa Abdulmajeed Al Baloushi. The national beach handball team earned bronze after securing four wins against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, despite two losses to Oman. Nasser Salem Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the UAE Handball Federation, dedicated the achievement to the UAE's leadership and the national Olympic movement. He said: 'The Board of Directors of the UAE Handball Federation extends its sincere congratulations to the nation's leadership, the National Olympic Movement, and the wider handball family in the UAE on winning the bronze medal in beach handball at the 3rd GCC Beach Games held in the Sultanate of Oman.' He added: 'Despite a short preparation period and the pressures of a packed domestic competition calendar, the dedicated cooperation of our clubs played a pivotal role in achieving this result. We are deeply grateful for their support. 'This achievement would not have been possible without the effective management of the Federation's national teams committee, and the determination shown by our players, technical staff, and management team. They have demonstrated that UAE handball deserves its place on the podium, and they have added a valuable medal to the nation's tally at this prestigious regional event.'
