Oman to host 10th Asian Beach Handball Torney

MUSCAT, MAY 4 The Oman Handball Association (OHA) is all set to kick off the actions of the 10th AHF Asian Men's and Women's Beach Handball championship which will begin in Muscat on Tuesday and will run until May 15. Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, OHA Chairman, unveiled in a press meet all the relevant details for this major Asian hosting. ' We are thrilled to host this prestigious event for the second time in history following the great success of the 2015 edition. Hosting this event was one of the key plans for the new board directors and we have managed to host it in Oman. The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) has full confidence in Oman's organisational capabilities and reinforces the Sultanate of Oman's position as a leading destination for international sporting events. This continental event will build on the success of the 3rd Gulf Beach Games which concluded last month in Muscat as the national beach handball team had clinched the gold medal. This achievement serves as a strong motivation for the national team to compete for the Asian title for the first time in history, despite reaching the finals more than eight times previously. Now is the time to fulfill this dream. I am confident on the team players to deliver their outmost efforts in order to win the title ,' OHA chief added. Responding to an inquiry on having tournament in winter instead of summer season, Moosa said:' The dates and timing of this tournament is not in our control as AHF have set an agenda for the whole year. In addition, the Asian Championship will act as a valuable opportunity to promote tourism in Oman and enhance cultural exchange among participating countries. There were tough efforts made to ensure the tournament's success starting from preparing main field and training venues according to international standards beside the logistical and accommodation services that meet the needs of all teams. Special thanks goes to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) for their support in securing hosting rights and to private sector companies sponsoring this major event. The championship will be a platform for showcasing Omani youth talents in organising major international events and enhancing the competitive spirit among participating Asian teams,' he ended. Salim bin Khalfan al Saadi, Board Member and Tournament Director, said that there are three venues for the event including the main venue that will feature opening and concluding ceremony and the key matches of the tournament beside another additional venue for the rest of the games while third venue is for warm up sessions,' ' Many sub committees were formed for this event to provide the required efforts for all the teams. Public Relations Committee are busy in these days as they are welcoming the participating teams and guests and ensure a comfortable stay in designated hotels. Jordan team were the first arrivals and rest of the teams will come accordingly. The Stadium Committee also played a vital role in preparing the courts to international standards, providing official match balls, and testing electronic scoring systems to ensure accuracy. The Medical Committee confirmed its full readiness to provide medical support throughout the tournament, with over 20 members from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the Ministry of Health. Field medical teams were equipped with the latest emergency tools, and specialised medical teams were stationed at venues and hotels,' he added ' The Media Committee played a major role in promoting the event through social media and various media outlets. Matches will be broadcast live on Oman Sports TV and Al Kass Channel, which sponsors Asian Handball Federation tournaments,' he ended. On the other side, Oman team managed to win their first friendly match against Jordan 2-1 on Saturday. Both teams are gearing up for the tournament. Oman beach handball team is clubbed with Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Maldives in Group A. Group B comprised of Iran, Philippines, Jordan, Pakistan and India. The women's competition will feature only four teams in one group only including: Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines and India.

Bahrain's medal tally continued to rise yesterday, as swimmers Ahmed Abdullnabi and Ahmed Suhail claimed bronze in the 10-kilometre open water team event. His latest triumph brings the nation's gold count to three — two by Hammadi in paragliding events and one by the national sailing team in the Optimist team category. The UAE also secured a silver medal in the aerosports sports team competition. Hammadi won gold in both the target landing and cone knocking (paragliding bowling) events. The national paragliding team claimed silver in the overall team category, which included Abdullah Nasser, Mohammed Abdullah Al Jasmi, Tariq Al Obaidli, Mohammed Jaber, and Rashid Al Samahi. The UAE delegation celebrated the achievements of the national paragliding team, which secured three medals — two gold and one silver — at the 3rd Gulf Beach Games in Muscat. Nasser Al Neyadi, President of the Emirates Aerosports Federation, hailed the results as the culmination of years of training and institutional backing. Meanwhile, the UAE men's beach handball team secured a second consecutive win after defeating Bahrain 2–1 in a penalty shootout. The team had previously beaten Saudi Arabia by the same margin, following an opening loss to Oman. They will face Oman again on Wednesday as part of the tournament's round-robin format, where each team meets twice. In beach football, the UAE national team opened their campaign with a 4–1 victory over Saudi Arabia and is scheduled to play Bahrain on Wednesday in their second group-stage fixture. The national sailing team concluded the first day of individual races with promising performances. Khalifa Ahmed Al Rumaithi led the Optimist class, while Othman Abdul Karim Al Hammadi topped the ILCA 6 (Men's) category. Among the women, Dhohaa Al Beshr led the ILCA 6, and Marwa Al Hammadi placed first in the ILCA 4. Adel Khalid Al Bastaki finished second in the ILCA 7 class, with Mohammed Marwan Al Marzouqi taking third in the ILCA 4 (Men's). Kamilia Khalifa Al Qubaisi and Alyazia Hassan Al Hammadi both secured third place in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 4 (Women's), respectively. Final standings will be confirmed at the conclusion of the races on Thursday. Elsewhere, the UAE athletics team held their first training session after arriving in Muscat, preparing for the competition ahead. KUWAIT CITY, April 5, (Agencies): The Chair of the Kuwaiti and Asian Aquatics Federations, Sheikh Khaled Al-Badr Al-Sabah, attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd Gulf Beach Games, which was held in Muscat on Saturday, April 5. According to a press release, Sheikh Khaled, before his departure, stated that the Gulf Beach Games is a distinguished sporting event and one of the most prominent competitions to be held in the Gulf countries in 2025. He expressed his full confidence in the capabilities and expertise of the sports institutions in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman to successfully organize this event. Sheikh Khaled highlighted that such events play a vital role in enhancing integration, facilitating the exchange of experiences, and elevating the technical and physical standards of athletes in the GCC countries. He stressed that the Omani Federation is one of the main pillars of Gulf Aquatics and is always striving to exchange expertise and continuously develop the aquatics system. Sheikh Khaled praised the tremendous efforts exerted by the relevant authorities in the Sultanate of Oman to provide all necessary facilities for the success of the Beach Games competition. This event, which brings together members of the GCC countries, will include eight sports and heritage events that will be held in a spirit of friendly competition. He affirmed the strong cooperation between the Asian Federation and the national federations of the member states to promote and elevate water sports throughout Asia so that Asia will remain a symbol of excellence in the Olympic Games and a global benchmark in the world of sports. Meanwhile, 65 athletes from Kuwait are competing across six sports: beach soccer, beach volleyball, sailing, paragliding, athletics, and tent pegging. The Kuwaiti air sports team kicked off its participation with paragliding competitions at Al-Jissah Beach, where they will compete in six rounds over the next two days. The team includes talented athletes Ibrahim Al-Rashoud, Ahmad Al-Madhi, Mohammad Al-Dousari, and Talal Al-Mutawa. The event aims to foster stronger sports cooperation among Gulf countries. KUWAIT CITY, April 3: The Kuwait Olympic Committee has announced its participation in the 3rd Gulf Beach Games "Muscat 2025," which will take place in the Sultanate of Oman from tomorrow. A total of 65 athletes, both male and female, will represent Kuwait across six of the eight sports scheduled for the tournament, which runs until April 11. Mohammed Al-Khalfan, the head of Kuwait's delegation and director of the committee, confirmed that Kuwait will compete in beach soccer, beach volleyball, sailing, air sports (paragliding), athletics, and equestrian peg-tie competitions. The tournament will also feature beach handball and long-distance swimming. Al-Khalfan emphasized that Kuwait's participation underscores the committee's commitment to fostering collaboration among Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He highlighted the importance of sports activities in promoting unity and sports integration among Gulf youth, noting that the tournament would feature elite athletes from across the region. The peg-picking team consists of Abdullah Al-Daihani, Abdullah Al-Hindi, Hussein Al-Ajmi, Ghanem Al-Ajmi, Ibrahim Al-Enezi, Naif Al-Usaimi (team manager), Rashid Al-Marri, and Ali Bin Ali (coaches).
