Company store worker in Sibu jailed for disposing of stolen heavy machinery parts

Willie Rampai, 34, of Ulu Bayan, Mukah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Romario Jonoi after the charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code was read to him. The Section provides for a maximum seven years' imprisonment or a fine, or both, upon conviction. Willie committed the offence at an unnumbered house on Jalan Sungai Pedai, Kanowit at about 3pm on May 12 this year. Based on the facts of the case, the complainant conducted an inspection at the company store after being informed that various items were missing and believed stolen. The missing items included one heavy machinery engine starter, one heavy machinery dynamo starter, one heavy machinery fuel pump, one electric drill, one electric grinder, four heavy machinery water tanks, and two heavy machinery batteries. Following a report lodged, police arrested Willie at around 2pm on May 29. An investigation found that the accused, together with an accomplice, had removed four heavy machinery water tanks from the store, and later sold the items. Their action was witnessed by another store employee. On May 30, police recovered a sales receipt for the stolen water tanks. Man gets six-months' jail, RM2,500 fine for stealing, reselling PS5 in Kuching
File photo for illustration purposes KUCHING (April 22): A 38-year-old man was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate's Court here today for disposing of a stolen PlayStation 5 (PS5) from a local electronics and furniture retail company by selling it to a gaming retail outlet. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence against Tay Eng Kiat after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code. The section provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction. The offence was committed at a gaming retail outlet in a shopping mall at Jalan Song here, around 2.19pm on Dec 12, 2024. According to the facts of the case, a staff member of the electronics and furniture retail company, acting as the complainant, discovered that one unit of the gaming console in question, was missing. The complainant reviewed CCTV footage and found that the accused had taken a PS5 unit without making payment at approximately 1.24pm that day. The loss was estimated at RM2,449. A police report was subsequently lodged for insurance reference and further action. Police investigations led to Tay's arrest and the recovery of the stolen PS5 from the gaming retail outlet, to which he had sold the item for RM1,900 after stealing it.
