Prabowo in Malaysia for first Asean Summit as Indonesian president
SUBANG: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived here today to attend the 46th Asean Summit and related summits, set to take place from May 26 to 27 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
This marks Prabowo's maiden appearance at the regional gathering as head of state since assuming office in October last year.
The special aircraft carrying Prabowo and his delegation touched down at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base at 7.20pm.
He was welcomed upon arrival by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
Prabowo later inspected a guard of honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Captain Muhammad Syafiq Najmi Mazlan.
At the 44th and 45th Asean Summits in Vientiane, Laos, in October 2024, Indonesia was represented by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin during the leadership transition.
The 46th Asean Summit is being held under Malaysia's 2025 Chairmanship themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
This marks Malaysia's fifth time chairing Asean, following previous terms in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.
The summit will also feature the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural Asean-GCC-China Summit. — BERNAMA
