60 pounds of fentanyl found in Interstate 5 traffic stop near Brownsville, police say
A 46-year-old man from Mexico was arrested May 20 after police said they found 60 pounds of powdered fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 northbound in Linn County. According to Oregon State Police, a trooper pulled over a white Chevrolet Impala at about 2 p.m. on I-5 northbound north of Brownsville after an unlawful lane change. During the stop, the man told police he was going to Salem, but on further questioning he said he did not know anyone in Salem, court documents allege. The man, who had been living in Oakland, California, gave police permission to search the vehicle, and a K-9 unit found 25 vacuum sealed packages of fentanyl in the trunk, according to an OSP press release. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the man made an appearance before a judge on May 21 but had not been arraigned.
