Housewife loses RM158,498 to fake online job scam
KUALA TERENGGANU: A housewife lost RM158,498 after investing money intended as business capital for her father into a non-existent online job scam. Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the 30-year-old victim had come across an online advertisement for a job offer at around 10pm on May 9. He said the woman expressed interest in the job and clicked the advertisement link, which led her to a WhatsApp conversation with someone claiming to be a job manager. "She was briefed about the job, which allegedly involved boosting hotel ratings. She was promised a 10 per cent commission based on the capital invested," he said in a statement today. Initially, the victim was assigned tasks that required her to click on links, select hotel rooms, send screenshots and make payments as instructed. Azli said the woman received the promised commission after completing the first task. "She then proceeded to the second task and made payments totalling RM158,498 in stages to nine different bank accounts. "However, after completing all payments, the victim did not receive any further commission as promised," he said. Realising she had been duped, the woman lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu police station at about 11.42am yesterday.

Plans for development of 11 new Edinburgh townhouses in 'underused carpark'
Plans have been submitted for the re-development of an underused car park into 11 four-bedroom townhouses in Stenhouse. Developers have filed plans for the townhouses to be erected in three clusters at the site between Ford's Road and Gorgie Road. According to planning documents, the homes would occupy an unused car park area of Westwood House, which is located at 498 Gorgie Road. The site abuts the Water of Leith and developers say the terraced family homes will complement the recent residential conversion of Elfin Square, also by LAR, reports Urban Realm. Planning documents state: "The proposal is for a new residential development of 11 dwellings at Ford's Road in Edinburgh. "It is anticipated that this proposal will make a positive contribution to street-specific and wider scale residential development in the area and provide much-needed family housing in Edinburgh. "A variety of services and amenities on Gorgie Road and the nearby Saughton Park are located within a few minutes' walk from the application site. Images of the proposed properties show homes with sleek, dark grey cement cladding. Documents further state: "The design of the buildings has been developed to present an interesting but simple appearance reflecting the distinctive sense of community and place the client is hoping to create. "Unique but attractive external materials should ensure the new development ages well as it matures."
