Bruins trade longtime star Brad Marchand to Panthers after 16 seasons with Boston
A generation of Boston Bruins fans that has always seen Brad Marchand wearing its team's sweater now must become accustomed to seeing the veteran left wing wearing a Florida Panthers jersey. Marchand, 36, was dealt to Florida before the NHL trade deadline on Friday at 3 p.m. ET. The deal caps weeks of speculation that the Bruins would part with their longtime star and team captain in the final year of his contract as the team fell out of the playoff race. What the Bruins will receive in return hasn't yet been announced, as the trade is still pending with the league. Marchand is currently sidelined with an upper-body injury that has sidelined him since March 1. Bruins fans might wince even further at Marchand being traded to the Panthers, who have eliminated Boston from the past two Stanley Cup playoffs, last year in the second round. Marchand played 16 seasons with the Bruins, winning a Stanley Cup in his second season with the franchise in 2011-12. He's been the team captain for the past three seasons, taking over the mantle in 2023 following Patrice Bergeron's retirement. During his career, Marchand scored 422 goals with 554 assists in 1,090 games. He has scored 20 or more goals for 12 consecutive seasons. Holy moly, what a goal by Brad Marchand 😍 — NBC Sports Hockey (@NBCSportsHockey) March 7, 2018 Among his career honors are two NHL All-Star Games and twice being named to both the first-team and second-team All-NHL teams. In international play, Marchand most recently played for Team Canada's championship team in the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament. He was on Canada's gold medal-winning clubs in the 2016 World Cup and IIHF World Championship. The Bruins finished second in the Atlantic Division last year, finishing just one point behind the Panthers with 109. However, Boston has slid significantly this season, holding seventh place in the division with just 64 points thus far. The team is still in contention for one of the Eastern Conference's two wild-card berths, trailing the Ottawa Senators by three points. Dealing Marchand was one of several teams the Bruins made before the NHL trade deadline. The team also traded defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs and center Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.

Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and predictions
The Washington Capitals (36-11-8) travel to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins (23-25-9) Saturday at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NHL odds around the Capitals vs. Penguins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions. Season series: Tied 1-1 These teams have met twice already this season, and both times were at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Penguins won 4-2 as moderate underdogs (+161) as the Under (6.5) cashed Nov. 8. The Caps won 4-1 as heavy favorites (-185) in the rematch Jan. 18. The Under (5.5) also cashed in that one. D Jakob Chychrun, C Aliaksei Protas, LW Pierre-Luc Dubois (power-play goal) and D Brandon Duhaime (empty-netter) scored goals in the victory to beat Pittsburgh backup G Joel Blomqvist. It was more than enough support for Caps G Logan Thompson, who had 18 saves in the win. The Pens lost 3-2 in Philadelphia Feb. 8 prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, but Pittsburgh is still 3-1-1 in the past 5 games, with the Under on a 7-0 run since Jan. 25. The Caps suffered a 5-4 shootout loss on Super Bowl Sunday as moderate favorites (-177), but they are still 3-0-3 in the past 6 games. The Over has hit in 5 consecutive outings. Stream the NHL all season on ESPN+, with your team's out-of-market games, exclusive games, originals and more. Get ESPN+ now! Capitals at Penguins odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 6:48 p.m. ET. Moneyline (ML) : Capitals -165 (bet $165 to win $100) | Penguins +140 (bet $100 to win $140) : Capitals -165 (bet $165 to win $100) | Penguins +140 (bet $100 to win $140) Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS) : Capitals -1.5 (+155) | Penguins +1.5 (-190) : Capitals -1.5 (+155) | Penguins +1.5 (-190) Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100) Capitals at Penguins projected goalies Charlie Lindgren (12-9-3, 2.63 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (16-11-2, 2.84 GAA, .906 SV%, 2 SO) Lindgren allowed 3 goals on 22 shots in a 4-3 win in Philadelphia Feb. 6 in his most recent appearance. He has allowed 3 or more goals in 6 of his past 9 outings. Lindgren allowed 3 goals on 31 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Penguins Nov. 8 in his only appearance against Pittsburgh this season. Nedeljkovic allowed just 2 goals on 24 shots in his most recent appearance Feb. 7 on the road against the New York Rangers in a win. He is 2-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA and .943 SV% with 1 SO in 3 starts in February. Ned hasn't faced the Capitals this season. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! Capitals at Penguins picks and predictions Prediction Penguins 3, Capitals 2 The PENGUINS (+140) are an intriguing play at home as short 'dogs. Pittsburgh was red-hot prior to the 4 Nations Tournament break, going 3-1-1 in the previous 5 games. Of course, the Capitals (-165) are 3-0-3 in the past 6 games, too. Don't get carried away, but Pittsburgh is the much better value at home. The Penguins +1.5 (-190) will cost you 1.9 times your potential return, and that's way too much risk for not nearly enough reward, should you need a little bit of insurance and just cannot bet Pittsburgh straight up. If you were to toss the Pens into a multi-leg parlay, that's OK. But, as a straight up play, PASS. UNDER 5.5 (+100) is the slight lean, but go with a half-unit play at best. The total has gone low in each of the previous 2 meetings this season and is 6-2-1 in the past 9 in the series since Nov. 9, 2022. Be careful, as the Over has cashed in 5 in a row for Washington. However, the Under is on a 7-game run for Pittsburgh, while going 8-1-1 across the previous 10 outings. Want to play some games of your own? Trump Turbocharges His Canada Trolling Ahead of Hockey Showdown
President Donald Trump mocked the Canadian prime minister ahead of a U.S.-Canada hockey face-off, inviting 'Governor Trudeau' to watch the game with him. Canada plays Team USA in Boston on Thursday to decide who wins the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament after a heated game Saturday in Montreal where several fights broke out on the ice. Fans of both teams booed each others' national anthems at previous games, prompting announcers to ask fans to 'respect the national anthems and the players that represent each country.' In a Truth Social post written ahead of the game in Boston, Trump showed little respect for Justin Trudeau. He wrote that the 'Governor' would be welcome to watch the face-off with him and that 'someday, maybe soon, [Canada will] become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.' Trump has been repeating the same threat for months, which has taken on a sharper edge since he made threats to use military force to take over Greenland and imposed—then paused—tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Trump said he was serious about his plan to take over Canada in an interview before the Super Bowl, and Trudeau has also told people that the threat is real. The tense political atmosphere created by Trump's comments has also made it onto the ice. Saturday's game in Montreal, which the U.S. won 3-1, started with a series of fights between the players, something that's not common in international hockey competitions. Trudeau attended the event and posted a video of the Canadian fans' rousing rendition of 'O Canada.' Trump said he would call the U.S. hockey team before Thursday evening's game 'to spur them on,' after the team's manager Bill Guerin invited him to attend in person. The president gave his apologies, saying he would be giving a speech to the Republican Governors Association's winter meeting instead.

4 Nations Face-Off: USA vs. Sweden odds, picks and predictions
Team USA meets Team Sweden Monday in the final round-robin match for both teams at the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament at TD Garden in Boston. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (TNT / truTV / Max). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's hockey odds around the USA vs. Sweden odds and make our expert hockey picks and predictions. Team USA projected lines Line 1: LW Kyle Connor (Jets), C Jack Eichel (Golden Knights), RW Matthew Tkachuk (Panthers) (Jets), C (Golden Knights), RW (Panthers) Line 2: LW Jake Guentzel (Lightning), C Auston Matthews (Maple Leafs), RW Jack Hughes (Devils) (Lightning), C (Maple Leafs), RW (Devils) Line 3: LW Brady Tkachuk (Senators), C J.T. Miller (Rangers), RW Matthew Boldy (Wild) (Senators), C (Rangers), RW (Wild) Line 4: LW Brock Nelson (Islanders), C Vincent Trocheck (Rangers), RW Dylan Larkin (Red Wings) (Islanders), C (Rangers), RW (Red Wings) Defense 1: LD Jaccob Slavin (Hurricanes), RD Adam Fox (Rangers) (Hurricanes), RD (Rangers) Defense 2: LD Zach Werenski (Blue Jackets), RD Charlie McAvoy (Bruins) (Blue Jackets), RD (Bruins) Defense 3: LD Noah Hanifin (Golden Knights), RD Brock Faber (Wild) (Golden Knights), RD (Wild) Goalies: Connor Hellebuyck (Jets), Jake Oettinger (Stars) (Jets), (Stars) Scratched: LW Chris Kreider (Rangers), D Jake Sanderson (Senators), G Jeremy Swayman (Bruins) Team USA belted Finland 6-1 in the tournament opener, and then beat Canada 3-1 in Montreal on Saturday night. The game started off with a fight, just 9 seconds into the game, as the Tkachuk Brothers and J.T. Miller all dropped the gloves in 3 separate skirmishes. Not related to the fight, but Matthew Tkachuk suffered an undisclosed injury against Canada, and he missed the final 12-plus minutes of the third period. If he cannot go, or if he is rested as a precaution, Chris Kreider could draw in. USA is already qualified for the final on Thursday. Team Sweden projected lines Line 1: LW Rickard Rakell (Penguins), C Mika Zibanejad (Rangers), RW William Nylander (Maple Leafs) (Penguins), C (Rangers), RW (Maple Leafs) Line 2: LW Filip Forsberg (Predators), C Elias Pettersson (Canucks), RW Adrian Kempe (Kings) (Predators), C (Canucks), RW (Kings) Line 3: LW Jesper Bratt (Devils), C Joel Eriksson Ek (Wild), RW Lucas Raymond (Red Wings) (Devils), C (Wild), RW (Red Wings) Line 4: LW Viktor Arvidsson (Oilers), C Elias Lindholm (Bruins), RW Gustav Nyquist (Predators) (Oilers), C (Bruins), RW (Predators) Defense 1: LD Victor Hedman (Lightning), RD Jonas Brodin (Wild) (Lightning), RD (Wild) Defense 2: LD Mattias Ekholm (Oilers), RD Erik Karlsson (Penguins) (Oilers), RD (Penguins) Defense 3: LD Gustav Forsling (Panthers), RD Rasmus Dahlin (Sabres) (Panthers), RD (Sabres) Goalies: Filip Gustavsson (Wild), Linus Ullmark (Bruins) (Wild), (Bruins) Scratched: C Leo Carlsson (Ducks), D Rasmus Andersson (Flames), G Samuel Ersson (Flyers) Sweden lost 4-3 in overtime against Canada on Wednesday, and it suffered a 4-3 loss in overtime against Finland on Saturday. Filip Gustavsson allowed 2 goals on just 4 shots, and he was lifted after one period in favor of Linus Ullmark. The latter is expected to make the start on Monday night against Team USA, and that game is special since it is where he starred with the Boston Bruins for 3 NHL seasons from 2021-24. Sweden is still alive for the championship game Thursday, but it needs a win in regulation. USA vs. Sweden odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Sunday at 8:42 p.m. ET. Moneyline (ML) : USA -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Sweden +165 (bet $100 to win $165) : USA -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Sweden +165 (bet $100 to win $165) Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS) : USA -1.5 (+125) | Sweden +1.5 (-150) : USA -1.5 (+125) | Sweden +1.5 (-150) Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: +100 | U: -120) USA vs. Sweden projected goalies Jake Oettinger (26-12-2, 2.35 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Linus Ullmark (12-9-2, 2.49 GAA, .915 SV%, 3 SO) There is no official word from the team, but with a spot already clinched in the final, Oettinger or Boston's Jeremy Swayman (18-18-4, 2.98 GAA, .898 SV%, 3 SO) could get the starting nod in an effort to preserve Connor Hellebuyck (34-7-2, 2.07 GAA, .925 SV%, 6 SO) for the title game, since this one is essentially meaningless. Ullmark came on for the ineffective Gustavsson to start the second period against Finland, and he allowed 2 goals on 17 shots in the 4-3 OTL against the rival Finns. It would be interesting if the matchup was Ullmark vs. Swayman, as those 2 goaltenders split starts in Boston in the past 3 seasons. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! USA vs. Sweden picks and predictions Prediction USA 3, Sweden 2 USA (-200) is a little on the expensive side for a standalone wager, costing you 2 times your potential return. There is risk, too, as it remains to be seen how hungry the Americans will be since they've already secured a spot in Thursday's final. There is concern with Matthew Tkachuk, too, as he has been the heart and soul of the team through 2 games, but he is dealing with an injury. He could be held out, since the game is essentially meaningless. PASS, and look to the puck line instead. SWEDEN +1.5 (-150) is worth a look on the puck line. In 2 games so far, Tre Kronor has lost 4-3 in overtime in both outings. It has been competitive, but it is just a tick off. Sweden is still playing for something, and it will go hard to the buzzer. Team USA -1.5 (+125) might not be as eager with a spot already clinched, as it doesn't want to take too many risks. Hellebuyck will likely sit as a precaution, too, resting for the championship game. UNDER 6 (-120) is worth a look, but go with a half-unit play at most. With Team USA likely going through the motions, since it already has a spot locked up in the title game, and Sweden playing carefully, not trying to make any mistakes, we could see some sluggish play, especially early on. Things might open up a bit in the second half of the game, especially if Sweden finds itself down a goal or 2 late, but don't expect a lot of offense early on. Want to play some games of your own? 4 Nations Face-Off: Canada vs. Finland odds, picks and predictions
Team Canada meets Team Finland Monday in the final round-robin match for both teams at the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament at TD Garden in Boston. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (TNT / truTV / Max). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's hockey odds around the Canada vs. Finland odds and make our expert hockey picks and predictions. Team Canada projected lines Line 1: LW Sam Reinhart (Panthers), C Connor McDavid (Oilers), RW Mitch Marner (Maple Leafs) (Panthers), C (Oilers), RW (Maple Leafs) Line 2: LW Sidney Crosby (Penguins), C Nathan MacKinnon (Avalanche), RW Mark Stone (Golden Knights) (Penguins), C (Avalanche), RW (Golden Knights) Line 3: LW Brad Marchand (Bruins), C Brayden Point (Lightning), RW Seth Jarvis (Hurricanes) (Bruins), C (Lightning), RW (Hurricanes) Line 4: LW Brandon Hagel (Lightning), C Anthony Cirelli (Lightning), RW Sam Bennett (Panthers) (Lightning), C (Lightning), RW (Panthers) Defense 1: LD Devon Toews (Avalanche), RD Drew Doughty (Kings) (Avalanche), RD (Kings) Defense 2: LD Josh Morrissey (Jets), RD Colton Parayko (Blues) (Jets), RD (Blues) Defense 3: LD Travis Sanheim (Flyers), RD Thomas Harley (Stars) (Flyers), RD (Stars) Goalies: Jordan Binnington (Blues), Adin Hill (Golden Knights) (Blues), (Golden Knights) Scratched: RW Travis Konecny (Flyers – healthy), LD Cale Makar (Avalanche – illness), G Sam Montembeault (Canadiens – healthy) Team Canada was forced to shake things up a bit, as D Shea Theodore was injured in the opener against Sweden, ending his tournament, while Makar missed Saturday's game with Team USA due to an undisclosed illness. Emergency call-up Harley was thrust into action, and he'll play again if Makar is still unable to go Monday afternoon. Coach Jon Cooper also inserted Bennett into the lineup in place of Konecny. Canada was on the short end of a 3-1 loss against the Americans, and it now has 2 points, tied with Finland with one overtime win and a regulation loss. Team Finland projected lines Line 1: LW Artturi Lehkonen (Avalanche), C Aleksander Barkov (Panthers), RW Mikko Rantanen (Hurricanes) (Avalanche), C (Panthers), RW (Hurricanes) Line 2: LW Roope Hintz (Stars), C Sebastian Aho (Hurricanes), RW Patrik Laine (Canadiens) (Stars), C (Hurricanes), RW (Canadiens) Line 3: LW Eetu Luostarinen (Panthers), C Anton Lundell (Panthers), RW Mikael Granlund (Stars) (Panthers), C (Panthers), RW (Stars) Line 4: LW Teuvo Teravainen (Blackhawks), C Erik Haula (Devils), RW Kaapo Kakko (Kraken) (Blackhawks), C (Devils), RW (Kraken) Defense 1: LD Niko Mikkola (Panthers), RD Esa Lindell (Stars) (Panthers), RD (Stars) Defense 2: LD Olli Maatta (Utah), RD Henri Jokiharju (Sabres) (Utah), RD (Sabres) Defense 3: LD Urho Vaakanainen (Rangers), RD Nikolas Matinpalo (Senators) (Rangers), RD (Senators) Goalies: Kevin Lankinen (Canucks), Juuse Saros (Predators) (Canucks), (Predators) Scratched: RW Joel Armia (Canadiens), D Juuso Valimaki (Utah), G Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Sabres) On Saturday, Finland staved off elimination with a 4-3 victory in overtime against rival Sweden. Barkov tied the game 3-3 in the second period, and after a scoreless third, the game went to the extra session. Granlund scored the winner on a feed from Mikkola. Coach Antti Pennanen swapped out Saros for Lankinen in net, and the move paid off. Kakko was also inserted into the lineup in place of Armia. Finland has a chance to make the final Thursday, but it needs to win, and it needs Sweden to suffer a setback against USA. Stream the NHL all season on ESPN+, with your team's out-of-market games, exclusive games, originals and more. Get ESPN+ now! Canada vs. Finland odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Moneyline (ML) : Canada -400 (bet $400 to win $100) | Finland +310 (bet $100 to win $310) : Canada -400 (bet $400 to win $100) | Finland +310 (bet $100 to win $310) Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS) : Canada -1.5 (-145) | Finland +1.5 (+120) : Canada -1.5 (-145) | Finland +1.5 (+120) Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -120 | U: +100) Canada vs. Finland projected goalies Adin Hill (20-10-4, 2.64 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Kevin Lankinen (19-8-7, 2.53 GAA, .905 SV%, 4 SO) There is nothing official, but Hill is expected to make his first start of the season after Binnington lost 3-1 in Saturday's game after his overtime victory over Sweden in the opener. Binnington has allowed 5 goals on 48 shots in 2 games in this tournament. Lankinen was inserted into the lineup after Saros allowed 6 goals in the opener to Team USA. The 29-year-old Canucks netminder allowed 3 goals on 24 shots in Saturday's 4-3 OTW against Sweden. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! Canada vs. Finland picks and predictions Prediction Canada 4, Finland 2 Canada (-400) will cost you 4 times your potential return, and that's way too much risk for not nearly enough reward. Even if you were to include this in a multi-leg or cross-sport parlay, playing Canada makes little sense, as it would suck all of the value out of your ticket. PASS, and look to the puck line instead. CANADA -1.5 (-145) will still cost you, but it's a better value taking it laying the goal and a half rather than the hefty price on the moneyline. Canada was the slight pre-tournament favorite, but it is against the ropes. It will be facing Finland (+310), a team that was expected to finish last among the combatants. Look for the more talented team to seize the opportunity and force its way into the title game, although it might take a late empty-net goal to get over the hump for this wager, so be careful. The Total (6) should come right down on the number. If there were a lean, it would be to the Under, ever so slightly. There is so much at stake, as the winner has the chance to advance to the title game, while the loser will go home. We should see some nerves and tentativeness early on. You can buy a half-goal and play UNDER 6.5 GOALS – ALTERNATE LINE (-130). Go with a half-unit on that if you want in on a total play. Want to play some games of your own?
