Unsettled weather persists in Utah, cool temperatures expected
SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Wednesday, Utah! Unsettled weather sticks around for a large portion of the state today into Thursday. Temperatures stay fairly cool for the most part, but they won't be too bad. Active skies hold on today as wrap-around moisture from the exiting system keeps showers locked in for a portion of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today for northern and eastern Utah while the southwest parts of the state see a mix of sun and clouds after a few morning showers roll through. Yesterday we saw temperatures plummet by 30°+ in a single day, and those below-average temperatures hold on into today. Daytime highs will be within a few degrees of Tuesday's highs for most, except for eastern Utah where temperatures will fall back down to match the rest of the state. That translates to highs in the mid to upper 50s for the Wasatch Front, low 60s in southern valleys, and upper 60s to mid-70s for the warm spots. On Thursday the wet weather potential tapers off, but daytime heating could tap into lingering moisture bringing a few more isolated showers to northern and eastern Utah, but otherwise partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will also start warming up Thursday, but it'll be a slow warmup with highs still in the low to mid-60s for most, and upper 70s to low 80s for the typically warmer locations. Friday will be a few degrees warmer, but still in the 60s up north while southern valleys reach the low 70s and hot spots climb into the 80s. There will be enough moisture for mostly cloudy skies across the region, but not enough for much precipitation. While Friday looks calm overall, a few high-terrain showers could pop up in the afternoon and we can't rule out a light shower in northern valleys. More unsettled weather moves in this weekend! Saturday will start off as the warmest day, but a cold front moves through toward the evening hours bringing showers and thunderstorms late Saturday afternoon through Monday. The heaviest and most widespread precipitation will be on Sunday when it's forecasted to impact the entire state from Logan to St. George. Summer heat ramps up across Utah with above-average temperatures
SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Thursday, Utah! Mother Nature is turning up the spring heat today, and into the weekend, with a flare of summer feels for the state on Saturday. Bottom Line?! Toasty temps by May standards settling in by the weekend. Daytime highs will be trending five to 10 degrees above normal across the state today, with upper 70s for the Wasatch Front, mid-80s for St. George. Mostly sunshine will take over for the state as well, with only a few clouds popping up over the mountain tops in the afternoon. By Friday, we'll add more warming into the mix with the ridge shifting further east and increasing southwest flow into the area. This pattern continues into Saturday, where peak warming is expected across the state. Daytime highs are forecast to reach the mid to upper 80s for portions of Northern Utah, with mid-90s for Lower Washington County. Too hot?! These temperatures are 20 degrees above normal for this time of year and are more common in late June than early May. For Mother's Day, the ridge of high pressure will largely remain in place. An approaching trough from the northwest will, however, increase winds statewide and bring limited moisture into the northern portions of the state. We'll see a slight chance of storms over northern Utah with strong southwest winds. The winds will continue into the first part of next week, with a cold front in the works for some time on Tuesday. That system is still pretty far out, and the timing and intensity will likely change a bit as we approach the weekend. For now, plan on roughly a 20-degree drop in temperatures from Sunday to Tuesday, with a chance of widespread showers likely returning on Tuesday as well. Nice start to the weekend, but a stretch of unsettled weather at our doorstep
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — We're kicking off the weekend on a gorgeous note, but that pattern will soon change as a moisture-rich system moves in from the Pacific. Ahead of the system, we'll see prominent southerly wind transporting warm southern air into the north bringing warm weather. The Wasatch Front is expected to be about as warm as St. George with daytime highs climbing into the low 80s. Valleys in southern and central Utah will be in the mid to upper 70s and higher terrain will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. Although it'll be warm, plenty of moisture will be moving in through southern Utah. A large Pacific system will drag moisture across the Great Basin and into the Beehive State, spelling scattered showers and thunderstorms from southwest Utah to the West Desert by the late afternoon. Northern Utah won't see much moisture apart from an increase in cloud coverage, but there will still be plenty of sunshine to go around Saturday. By Sunday, the north will join in the fun with scattered thunderstorms on deck for the vast majority of the state. This slow-moving system will keep widespread showers and thunderstorms locked in through Monday, but isolated showers will stick around for many into Tuesday for most of us. Temperatures will also take a serious drop, tanking all the way into the lower 60s for valleys by Monday, including in St. George. ‘Warm before the storm': Beautiful Friday in Utah ahead of late weekend storm
SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Friday, Utah! Gorgeous weather is in store today, but a much more active pattern brings cool unsettled weather this weekend and into next week. Mostly sunny skies are on deck to close out the workweek with temperatures warming 5-10 degrees above average. Daytime highs will climb into the low to mid-70s for most valleys, mid-60s to low 70s for higher terrain, and 80s for the hot spots. We kick off the weekend with even warmer temperatures thanks to a southerly flow dragging warm air from the Desert Southwest across the state. So while southern hot spots will have similar temperatures to Friday, other valleys will warm up to rival that of St. George. Saturday's highs will top out in the upper 70s to low 80s and we expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies — at first. This is just the 'warm before the storm' so don't let Saturday morning fool you, because by the evening the weather pattern takes a serious turn. A large Pacific system will drag moisture across the Great Basin and into the Beehive State, first impacting southern Utah in the late afternoon and eventually the north overnight and into Sunday morning. Sunday and Monday are slated to have the most active weather for the entire state with scattered thunderstorms in the cards. This slow-moving system will keep thunderstorms locked in through Monday, but lingering moisture will keep showers around on Tuesday for the vast majority of the Beehive State. By Wednesday the bulk of the moisture will have moved on, but a few showers are still in the cards. By Monday, temperatures will also take a serious drop, tanking all the way into the lower 60s for valleys, including St. George.
