Minister urges garment manufacturers to follow fire safety norms
Kolkata: Bengal fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose on Monday asked manufacturers of readymade garments in the state to abide by fire safety norms.
Inaugurating the 58th Garment Fair and B2B Expo, being held over three days at Science City, Bose said: "We are cooperating with traders and manufacturers to set up units or warehouses in Bengal, especially in industrial parks coming up in different parts of the state.
We have also eased the process of applying for and obtaining a fire licence. The govt is planning to set up malls in districts to boost the retail business of local manufacturers in segments like garments."
Referring to the massive fires at Barasat and Mechua Bazar, the minister said: "Sometimes, we find that manufacturing continues with loopholes that result in fire incidents. I request the manufacturers to obey all norms to ward off fire hazards."
