Richard Osman shares major announcement about new TV series away from Thursday Murder Club
Richard Osman is also the author of the successful novel We Solve Murders.
The Thursday Murder Club film is coming to Netflix soon and it is a small screen adaptation of Richard Osman's 2020 novel, The Thursday Murder Club.
Some of the stars, like Celia Imrie, have expressed their excitement about working on the project, and Netflix has unveiled plenty of behind the scenes insight.
Sticking to the book's premise, the film follows four amateur detectives as they make it their mission to solve a real murder, and Osman revealed in an interview with Radio Times some exciting news about one of his other projects.
After penning the fourth book in The Thursday Murder Club series, Osman revealed he was taking a break to write a new novel. We Solve Murders was released in September 2024 and Osman revealed there "will be a television series" adaptation of this book.
In the same interview, with author defended the cosy crime genre, which is sometimes sniffed at, although he admitted he didn't let it get to him.
"There are so many people in the world who are sniffy about so many things, and it doesn't make them happier. If I ever say something is good on social media and someone s**** it off I say, 'You don't need to s*** it off, just reply with something you love.' That's all you need.'
We Solve Murders, which became an instant New York Times bestseller, follows father and daughter-in-law Steve and Amy Wheeler, who live polar opposite lives.
Steve is a retired police officer who lives a quiet life in the New Forest, meanwhile his daughter Amy is a private security officer.
While she is on an important job protecting famous author Rosie D'Antonio on a remote island, a personal threat arises which prompts Amy to seek help from her father-in-law.
The story follows their adventures as Amy realises her life is in danger, with a series of murders linked to her current assignment.
No information about the series adaptation has been unveiled yet, but Osman confirmed to Radio Times it was indeed happening.
Osman has been working on his second book for the We Solve Murders series. At the end of 2024 he expressed his delight on Instagram after the first book was named "Britain's biggest-selling book of 2024".
He shared: "Absolutely thrilled that #WeSolveMurders is Britain's biggest-selling book of 2024. A million thanks to everyone. Am currently writing the 5th Thursday Murder Club book, and there will be more 'We Solve Murders' in 2025!"
