Gujarat High Court gets seven new judges as Union ministry notifies appointment of judicial officers

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday notified the appointment of seven judicial officers as judges of the Gujarat High Court on Thursday, coinciding with the 65th Foundation Day celebrations in the state. The notification stated that the President of India has appointed Judicial Officers Liyakathussain Shamsuddin Pirzad, Ramchandra Thakurdas Vachhani, Jayesh Lakhanshibhai Odedra, Pranav Raval, Mool Chand Tyagi, Dipak Mansukhlal Vyas, and Utkarsh Thakorbhai Desai to be judges of the Gujarat HC, 'in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.' The appointments are part of the ongoing measures to improve the disposal rate of pending cases and increase the capacity of the Gujarat HC.

Godhra decked up to host Guj Foundation Day event

Vadodara: The state's 65th Foundation Day or Gujarat Gaurav Divas will see state-level celebrations being held in Godhra town of Panchmahal district on Thursday. Chief minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate and launch development works worth Rs 649.77 crore. A series of events have been planned for the day. Governor Acharya Devvrat and top officials of the state govt will also attend the celebrations. The works to be inaugurated or launched by the CM include projects related to roads and buildings, panchayats, tribal welfare, education, horticulture, animal husbandry, transport and urban development departments. A new regional transport office and a new office for the inspector general of police will also be inaugurated. In total, 86 development works will either be inaugurated or see work start. Patel will also inaugurate the lithium-ion battery recycling plant of Rubamin Pvt Ltd and an ultra-high temperature milk processing plant of Panchamrut Dairy. The Gujarat Garima Awards will be presented in the evening, with ten individuals from Panchmahal who have achieved success in various fields being felicitated. The district administration and Godhra municipality have taken steps to clean and decorate the town for the celebrations. An official statement said Gujarat remains a "role model" state contributing significantly to India's development, . While Gujarat has always been a land of culture, tradition, prosperity and development, contributing 8.2% to the country's GDP, a new chapter of its development began two decades back when Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, took over as the chief minister in 2001, it said. "It has since positioned itself as an industry-friendly, tech-savvy, startup-friendly and innovation-friendly state, having attracted international tech companies like Tesla, Micron and Foxconn, encouraging youth towards entrepreneurship, and taking steps for planned development of the tourism sector, among others," it said. For the last two decades, Gujarat has been continuously proving to be a role model through a new chapter of development in the country, the release added. Gujarat has 5% of India's population and 6% of the land, yet it makes a significant contribution to the country's economic development, stated the release. To achieve the Prime Minister's goal of 'Developed India', Gujarat is contributing 8.2% to the country's GDP, and ranks among top five states in terms of economy, it said. GIFT City, Science City, Dholera Smart City, Metro Train, Bullet Train Project, and ports are taking Gujarat towards national leadership. Gujarat holds a leading position in the field of exports, accounting for more than 30% of the total exports in India. This mainly includes petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ceramics, gems and jewellery, chemicals and pharma products, it said. From April to Dec 2024, Gujarat's share in the country was 27.40% with a total export of 88.16 billion USD, it said. (With PTI input)

ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology celebrates 68th Foundation Day

The 68th Foundation Day of the Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) was celebrated on its CIFT premises here on Tuesday. Head of Cyclone Warning Centre Visakhapatnam Bharati S. Sabade, who participated as chief guest, lauded the research contributions of ICAR-CIFT, which have significantly supported the fishing industry and various stakeholders in advancing the fisheries sector of the country. She also acknowledged the broader contributions of ICAR in the development of agriculture and allied fields across India. Earlier, Scientist-in-Charge and Principal Scientist of Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT U. Sreedhar, highlighted the Institute's major achievements in both the harvest and post-harvest sectors related to fisheries along the East Coast. He emphasised the innovative work carried out by the Visakhapatnam Centre, particularly in the areas of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), food safety, value-added fish products, deep-sea trawl resource exploration, implementation of Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs), and the validation of tuna fishing advisories. As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, ICAR-CIFT honoured its senior-most retired staff members for their valuable contributions to the institute. A Hindi in-house magazine titled 'Matsyadhara', showcasing the research achievements and cultural talents of the staff, was released by the chief guest during the event. An Open House was organised where the Fishing Technology, Fish Processing, and Biotechnology laboratories were opened to students and the general public, encouraging scientific curiosity and engagement. A painting competition on the theme 'Life Below Water' was also conducted to promote awareness among the youth. Officials from the ICAR-CMFRI, FSI, CIFNET, NIFPHTT, EIA, MPEDA, NETFISH, NIO, and Andhra University participated in the celebrations. Earlier, Scientist at ICAR-CIFT Ahamed Basha welcomed the gathering and Senior Scientist proposed the vote of thanks. In connection with the 65th Foundation Day celebrations, various competitions were organised for the staff of ICAR-CIFT, Visakhapatnam Regional Centre. Mr. U. Sreedhar distributed prizes to the winners.
