Grammy Awards Reveals Key Dates for 2026 Show, New Categories
Yara Sameh The Recording Academy has revealed the key dates, deadlines and rule amendments for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, taking place on Sun, February 1, 2026, at Arena in Los Angeles, with nominations set to be announced on Fri, November 7, 2025. Following its annual board meeting, it has also announced several new awards and changes to the awards process, effective immediately. The Grammys also announced a few updates to its rules and categories for this year's awards, with the full list of updates available in the Recording Academy's rulebook . In the country category, there will be a new award for best traditional country album, and the current best country album category will be renamed to best contemporary country album. In the general field, the Academy has changed a rule for the best new artist category so that artists who were previously featured on a record nominated for album of the year can still be nominated for best new artist if their contributions on the album were 20 percent or less. In the packaging field, the Academy is introducing a new category for best album cover, while best recording package and best boxed or special limited edition package are being consolidated into one category. And in the classical category, the Academy said 'composers and lyricists/librettists are now eligible for GRAMMY recognition alongside all other key creative personnel including artists, producers, and engineers on winning albums.' Music released between August 31, 2024 and August 30, 2025 will be eligible for Grammy consideration for the 68th Grammy Awards. The online entry period will run from July 16 to August 29, The Academy said. The first round of voting will run from October 3 through October 15, with nominations announced November 7, and the final round of Grammy voting runs from December 12 to January 5, 2026. Grammys unveil 2026 ceremony date, new categories
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1, the Recording Academy announced Thursday, along with the addition of two new categories. Set to broadcast live from the Arena in Los Angeles, the 68th Annual Grammy Awards will air at 8:00 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+. The category updates are as follows: General Field Eligibility for Best New Artist has been expanded to include artists who have been previously nominated in Album of the Year, but whose contributions fell below the current 20 percent playing time threshold. This update allows acts who were credited as featured artists on projects that were Grammy-nominated for Album of the Year in a previous awards cycle to be eligible for Best New Artist consideration. Country Field The existing Best Country Album Category has been renamed Best Contemporary Country Album, and a new Category, Best Traditional Country Album, has been added. Classical Field In Classical Categories, composers and lyricists/librettists are now eligible for Grammy recognition alongside all other key creative personnel including artists, producers, and engineers on winning albums. Packaging Field The existing Best Recording Package and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package Categories have been combined into one single Category: Best Recording Package. The road to music's biggest night in 2026 has officially begun. The Recording Academy has locked in the date for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards- February 1, 2026. Set to take place at the iconic Arena in Los Angeles, the show will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+. In a sweeping announcement following its annual board meeting, the Academy also unveiled several fresh updates, including new categories, revised eligibility rules and long-overdue recognition for artistic contributions that often go unnoticed. Among the most notable additions this year: Best Album Cover. While the Grammys have long recognized liner notes and packaging, this specific category has somehow been missing-until now. The two existing packaging categories (Best Recording Package and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package) are now merged into one, and album artwork finally takes its rightful place. Physical product rules have also been revised. Now, albums sold directly through artists' or labels' websites will be considered eligible for several craft categories, including Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album. This reflects a more current, fan-driven marketplace. The committee overseeing packaging and presentation has also shifted from a regional to a national framework, aiming for a broader, more unified standard. Genre-specific changes are making room for more inclusivity. In the Country category, the Best Country Album has been renamed Best Contemporary Country Album. The Best Traditional Country Album category has been introduced. Meanwhile, the Classical field is also getting recognized. From now on, composers and lyricists/librettists will also receive GRAMMY recognition, joining artists, producers, and engineers on winning albums. Artists who have previously contributed to an Album of the Year nominee, but were credited for less than 20 per cent of its total playing time, are now eligible for the breakthrough award.
