Railway employees feted at Rail Seva Puraskar event

Samastipur division
of the
East Central Railway
(ECR) observed the 69th
Rail Seva Puraskar
by dedicating it in the memory of martyr and Kirti Chakra awardee,
Captain Dilip Kumar Jha
, at a function held on the Samastipur rail premises on Saturday evening. The event celebrated both— the division's operational achievements and the legacy of a local hero, who laid down his life for the nation during anti-insurgency operation in J&K in 2002. The event also included awards for outstanding performers across various departments, further fostering a spirit of excellence, he said.
In a special tribute, railway officials, employees and guests paid homage to Captain Jha, recognising his valour and unwavering service. The division chose to honour him as a symbol of dedication and commitment aligned with the Indian Railways' ethos, said Samastipur divisional railway manager (DRM), Vinay Srivastava.
During the ceremony Samastipur division showcased its record breaking performances in
freight operations
, especially in the agricultural sector. In the fiscal year 2024–25, the division achieved a record achievement by loading 208 rakes of maize — the highest ever — significantly boosting agricultural logistics in the region, the DRM said, adding the division earned remarkable revenue of Rs 1,256 crore in both— freight and passenger services during the same period within the ECR zone.
The DRM commended the dedication of railway employees whose consistent efforts contributed to this achievement.
