IndiGo flight suffers bird strike, makes emergency landing at Ranchi airport
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], June 2 (ANI): An IndiGo flight en route from Patna to Ranchi on Monday made an emergency landing after suffering a bird hit during its approach to Birsa Munda Airport in Jharkhand. All passengers on board are safe as the plane landed safely at the airport, and the operations at the airport remain normal. Speaking with ANI, Birsa Munda Airport Director RR Mourya said, 'The incident occurred while the aircraft was making an inbound turn to land, approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles from the airport at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 feet'. 'A bird was reported to have hit the aircraft, which was suspected to be a large bird, possibly a vulture. Following the report, an emergency landing was requested,' Mourya added. The aircraft landed safely at 13:14 Hours and is currently grounded pending further clearance. Airport authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and that standard safety protocols were followed. Flight 6E 6313 landed safely at Delhi airport after making many circles in the air. The video of the incident also went viral on social media. The pilot announced that the wind speed was upto 80 km/hrs, and he discontinued the approach and climbed back till the weather cleared. Meanwhile, the national capital on Sunday (June 1, 2025) witnessed a spell of rain, accompanied by strong winds over the southern parts of Delhi. The rains are due to an east-southeastward-moving cloud cluster, according to the Meteorological Department. The spell of rain offered a much-needed respite from the heat, as the national capital recorded maximum temperatures of more than 39 C earlier in the morning. According to IMD, Safdarjung area recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar 39.5 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road 39.4 degrees Celsius and Palam recording 39.1 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued warnings of thunderstorms, lightning and squall for the next two days, on June 2-3, in the national capital. The IMD has issued warnings on the nowcast for atleast 8 districts, including South, South East, New Delhi, East, Central, Sahadara, North East. The Met Department has said that the winds could reach up to 80 kmph too. Meanwhile, South West, West and North West Districts have been issued an advisory to watch out for light rains, thunderstorms and lightning.

A video recorded from inside the cabin captured the unsettling moment as the aircraft shook violently, with several passengers crying out in fear. The video also captures that visibility outside the windows was poor, adding to the chaos. According to NDTV, the pilot of flight 6E 6313 informed passengers that the aircraft would not be able to land at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport due to high wind speeds just minutes before the scheduled landing. 'Winds have reached 80 kmph. We will need to climb back to a higher altitude,' the pilot announced. The aircraft circled the skies for several minutes before eventually landing safely at 5.43 pm, nearly 40 minutes later than its scheduled arrival time of 5.05 pm. On Sunday, several parts of the Capital were hit by a sudden rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intense activity was triggered by an east-southeastward-moving cloud cluster. At Palam, winds clocked 65 kmph around 4.30 pm, and Pragati Maidan recorded gusts at 76 kmph. Last month, an IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to Srinagar encountered severe turbulence, and sustained weather-related damage mid-air, with the aircraft's nose cone impacted. Srinagar Airport Director Javed Anjum later confirmed that the flight landed safely despite the rough conditions. In the viral video recorded inside the cabin, the aircraft shook violently as it battled intense turbulence during the storm. Passengers, including children, screamed in fear as flashes of lightning passed the windows.

According to the IMD, southern parts of Delhi were expected to receive very light to light rainfall along with thunderstorms, due to a cloud cluster moving east-southeastward. Adverse weather conditions on Sunday evening led to the diversion of four flights and delays to numerous others at Delhi airport. A source told PTI that between 5 pm and 5:30 pm, one flight each was diverted to Chandigarh and Amritsar, while two were redirected to Jaipur.
